Why is off-topic now filled with threads that are idiotic, annoying, useless, or even all 3 at once? It's getting old. What annoys me the most is when 1 person posts 5 topics that are all extremely dumb. Not going to point fingers or name names or anything, but come on now 1 a day is even pushing it.

I know people are going to say, "no one's begging you stay". That's right, I don't have to, but I want to, I liked browsing off topic, and posting when I felt the need when there was topics with actual discussion.

Flame me if you want to, because I know, you're just that awesome as to talk about someone from an online RuneScape gaming forum, I'm not gonna post on this thread anymore good or bad responses are both accepted, who knows? Maybe you like the dumb idiotic posts?!?

Post your feedback on the old off topic vs todays off topic.

There are still alot of cool, fun to read, and easy to discuss topics, but there dieing down and being taken over by horrible dumb topics.

Sorry if this doesn't "warrant a thread" but if threads about getting your tongue bitten off, and the shamwow guy getting arrested, I'd say this does.

I'm sure it'll get locked within a few hours but oh well.

Joe.

I wholeheartedly agree.

And I blame the mass influx of /b/tards we've had recently. 1 year ago it was NOT like this.

What. I thought we had the whining phase back in February. Wait, but we also had the news phase back in February.

WORMHOLE? Oh, no, wait, we got like ten people either starting to get familiar or coming back to us. Whatever.

this topic doesn't agree with you.

OT goes in cycles, it goes up and down in seriousness, and joking around.

were in a trolly phase right now, just make some serious threads if you want to do something about it.

Or instead you could make a thread that has "actual discussion"...?

I don't see how a small amount of people posting bad topics means that the whole forum has gone bad. It's not like there's a peer review process for posting topics.

There has always been stupidity. There always will be. At one point in offtopic's history there weren't enough threads to keep discussions going. I'll try to find the old thread that described the state of OT long ago. Sure, there are some people who come here thinking that OT being non-runescape also means non-discussion and therefore think that posting junk like you'd find on /b/ is welcome. It's not, and there are still plenty of mature OTers who have been here for ages who valiantly defend the sanity of the forum. You don't seem to realize that as more people join the site, there tend to be more morons among the bunch. I hate the immaturity that appears on OT too, but it's not so frequent to the point where OT is a hellhole. We're far from that stage. Maybe of those really borderline threads like "ever caught them" and the picture thread were still alive, we'd be in a pretty low stage. But thankfully, believe it or not, there are mods who work to keep up the boards to prevent them from becoming a stereotypical internet forum.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

You made that over a year ago, you have a problem with how the forum direction is going these days, so make another one if it's that easy.

Edit: Got beat to it.

people need to learn to stop complaining and just go with the flow, I'd understand if it were a complete spam fest, and it was constant trolling everywhere, but just because it's slightly less serious than it was a couple weeks ago, It doesn't mean you have to make a thread about it, if you think it's not serious enough, make a serious thread, if it's too serious, make a joke thread.

making whiny threads isn't gonna help.

It's hard to really blame the whole of OT for a lack of good topics. I mean, people can only churn out new, creative ideas so quickly. In the transitional phase it's all news and crappy jokes, then someone sparks a new set of good topics. And to say one thing about you "wanting to stay": You can't always get what you want.

Nothing changed in reality. You are just older and have been here longer so you see things differently then as a new member.

Pro-tip: Want things to change around here? Make threads that are productive your self, thereby influencing others to do the same perhaps.

Although I some-what agree with you, your thread is not going to make the difference you want to see. Neither are the rants for or against your thread. So if you truly want to see more of x in offtopic then you need to be able to come up with another strategy that will get you what you want otherwise you're just contributing to what you're complaining about.

One method is one I read from Das - While I obviously don't agree with him on many things, this one was very wise of him. Everything is ruled by a critical mass of numbers, so if you don't want to see a topic, simply don't contribute to it. Make posts on the topics you want to be up the front. Eventually the topics you find stupid are going to be the ones down the bottom and then on to the next page.

My suggestion to you is to discretely PM other members whose posts and threads you enjoy reading and ask them to join you in a discussion about ideas for new threads. This could be done easily on IRC or MSN. It will be a lot more productive and get you what you want to see. And if you don't like to work with others, as Aaron suggested, do it yourself.

I can honestly say that I've clashed with many members, mods and admins but if you truly believe in something with good reasoning and intentions why put up with what you're given? There's many methods of obtaining it, the trick is how you go about it. If you hit a brick wall, get out the chalk board and draw another strategy ;)

Cheers

Who cares? Tbh I think that the serious to funny ratio is pretty bad, but this will be a really boring topic if it's all serious all the time, and really annoying if everyone is posting nonsense all the time.

Just don't treat nonsense like it's a bad thing.

Kind of a personal question. Maybe people are uncomfortable telling that. :shame:
