As most of you are no doubt aware, we at Jagex have been trying our collective hands at getting more in touch (lolz bad pun alert) with those lovely fan site people.

 

 

 

Well, the project has been going swimmingly thus far, so now it is time to launch the first (of what we hope will be many) "Meet and Greets" for our fan site admins, or as we prefer to call them ambassadors.

 

 

 

Today we'll be hearing from Tip.it and RuneVillage!

Tip.it

 

 

 

I'm Eva, aka Siobhana, a member of the Administrative team at Tip.it.

 

 

 

Tip.it started as a fan/help site and has since developed a forum with over 170K members (Join today :-D ). We also have an event team who host all sorts of events on a regular basis.

 

 

 

Personally I'm 31 yo, from Norway, and I make micro lasers for a living (I know, I can't believe I get paid to do that either :-D). Love reading, cooking, travelling and watching the Big Bang Theory show (Check it out!).

RuneVillage

 

 

 

Hello, hello, and hello to all of you! I am Snake1235, board moderator and representative of one of Runescape's oldest and greatest fansites, http://www.runevillage.com. As an "ambassador"-type figure, I'd like to share with you a little bit about our humble Village, and hopefully to see some of you joining us in our fantastic community.

 

 

 

First of all and definitely a big point is a major "Thanks" to Jagex for reaching out to the wonderful community their game has grown and allowing us to get our voices heard. You really do make a great game, and we salute you for it. :)

 

 

 

Now, I'd like to give you all a taste of the fantastic place that is Runevillage. Along with all of our guides, databases, and such is something that stands tall whenever anyone thinks of Runevillage: our community. We're bursting at the seams with kind, sincere members that enjoy a good discussion, and if you need any help, tips, or just a few good pals in Runescape, then we have what you seek. In fact, I encourage anyone who reads this to make a thread introducing themselves in our Lumbridge Lounge forum and see what a warm Village welcome is. :) Speaking of discussions, why limit yourself to our fantastic forums when we also have a chatroom?

 

 

 

Runevillage is also very popular for our Events Team. Though the days of our old colossal drop parties may be changed, we still have many events which we'd love to include everyone in! Such events include minigames, birthday bashes, among many other things! There's something for everyone to enjoy, and believe me, we want you to enjoy. :)

Over the coming weeks and months our ambassadors will be using the RuneScape facebook to highlight special events and activities that they'll be running in their communities and we urge you to join in!

 

 

 

Keep an eye on the events calendar and check the photo albums from time to time to see what our fan sites have been up to.

With all due respect, I actually found Tip.it's response quite appalling compared to Rune Village. If I was new to a fansite I would have actually chosen RV instead of tip.it from the above post.

 

 

 

I know Siobhana probably wants it to sound cheerful and fun but for something which was going to be made public, it didn't show much effort in publicising Tip.it.

 

 

 

Compared to the descriptions RV gave, it was pretty much a let down.

 

 

 

So, what do we have? 2 sentences on what tip.it is?

 

 

 

Also, it might be painfully obvious, but I still do think the web address should be given clearly. Again, if I was new, I'll probably just think Tip.it as a name. (I won't know it was hosted in Italy)

 

I'll probably think www.tipit.com

They'll join runevillage, think wow this sucks, and then come to tip, d'uh.

 

 

 

Siobhanna(sp?) already has a plan hahahaa :D

She did well, but she should have said a bit more.

 

 

 

Other than that it was good.

C'mon Siobhana, you could have said a bit more about our wonderful site. It's your duty as the Official Tip.It Ambassador! Still, it's good to see that Jagex are getting on with their talks with fansites now.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like Tip.its' reputation is going to go down the toilet just because Siobhana's introduction was shorter than Snake1235's.

 

Personally, I'd rather join the community which was represented by someone with a nice, clean name, rather than someone with a string of numbers at the end. :thumbup:

RV was pretty much like look at us we are the best because we say we are and yeah.

No one is a better fit than Siobhana. It is an INTRODUCTION thread. Just wait and see what happens in the future before you go and make personal attacks.

 

 

 

I see this as a great public relations feature for both sides. I would hope that someone choosing a fansite would look at both. ;-) Ours right off is superior. :)

I'm going to have a very busy next few months letting new players know that stupid, poorly thought out, spammy\flamey post aren't going to slip by me in rants. Beware all who read this, if ye shall post a post in ye olde rants forum that differs from my opinion in any way prepare to have a fight to the death ending with either me or both of us providing a massive amount of facts and sources to prove the other wrong. Don't make stupid posts that you can't back up or your gonna be called out on it, if not by anyone else then by me -.- -.- -.-

 

 

 

Yeah, I'm being biased, stereotypical and pessimistic, but the facts are on my side. Unfortunately :|

 

 

 

I hereby make the prediction that many rants will follow about TIFs community going to pot from this, similar to miniclip, and I hereby predict that those posts will have a point. Probably not as bad as they make it out to be, but they will have a point. Let's see how good of a prophet I am.

I'm aware that this is just an introduction and that (hopefully) more attracting things about tipit are written in the future, but I still think that a few more things could have been added. I mean, a lot of the stuff written was personal things about Siobhana and not so much about the fansite itself, and RV did the opposite by describing the site's features. We could have at least said we were the 1st runescape fansite created and taken the win on that one because all RV could say was they were "one of the oldest" fansites around.

I don't see why anyone would join RuneVillage really, maybe because it has the word "Rune" in their name. I personally cant stand going there, Hiker's begging for cash to keep the site paid for kills it for me.

*ahem* tbh I'm more interested to see what she'll do with the role than how good her 'hello' post is, so I'll keep judgement on it till a couple of weeks time. By which point I'm sure we'll have the better rep on there as she'll have been able to match RV's efforts 50 to 1.

I think she made it much more personal. There is nothing wrong with writing less, in the end someone is going to have to write less (unless they both counted their words and ended on the exact same number of characters). Personally, I would have gone to visit Tip.it rather than RV if I saw these two posts.

 

 

 

Sio has been doing a great job with working on their facebook, she has done a couple unseen things already, and I can't wait to work with her more.

Here is how I think of it. All the trolls and flamers who are in search will see RV and tip.it and join RV because it LOOKS more organized and what not. Then all the laid back people who actually read parts will see TIF/Tip.It and join us. :thumbsup:
