"Devourer" situation aside, I suppose they can't keep up the trade kidnappings forever, but still, there's some items that have a middle ground between "rare enough to buy out" and "useful enough to be quite annoying when you want to purchase it", and every time they win out on a redistribution of wealth, this allows them to fry even larger fish.

I mean, sure people get burned out on merchant clans after a sour deal, but that never seemed to stop scammers, hackers, or botters from multiplying...

You give people an inch on the internet, they take it all the way to the moon. Even a small time thing such as price manipulation is gold rush territory when Jagex's policy is lax, and since the lackluster handling of the PvP exploit, people are more ballsy and jerkheaded as ever.

I'm pretty much sick of all this "RS economy is dead" [cabbage]...

If you ask me it working fine; as if it should have a "working" function. Runescape is a game where money can appear out of no where (ie: alching/monster drops). With a situation like that, a fake economy can not die...

It usually works when you're trying to buy something from the GE right? yes, (unless you're asking to less for it). And vise-versa when selling something. There's obviously a lot of other variables.

The runescape economy is working fine, our only problem is extreme price inflation and deflation, but why is that? Price manipulation... but that alone won't "kill" the economy. Nothing will, because it's a game and money appears out of no where.

The only way for the economy to get killed is to kill RS.

As currently set up there's no way for the economy to be "killed". Players themselves proved that when Jagex allowed very messed up prices to be set on the GE for many items, and players started to use items that JAGEX turned into "junk" as a trade medium.

I've played through years of "the economy is crashing" threads. And while this is a different thread, it is still asking, or making the same statement. We have what's called a luxury economy in RS. People don't trade out of need to do so, but out of want. And I don't see want EVER being killed in this game.

Sure we can fantasize about Jagex removing trade, or removing gold. But it isn't going to happen. So looking at what we have, and what we can HONESTLY assume might happen, nothing can kill the economy.

Well, TBH - I'm trying to think of ways that the economy would truly be dead... and not someone whining about how they can't buy their whips, or they can't buy sharks, or they can't buy strength potions, and so therefore the economy is "dead".

Right now, wait and see a week, but my prediction is that lobs will hit their price ceiling of 368 again, and for a little while after that, it'll be impossible to buy lobsters (I've personally purchased 12k uncooked lobsters today... yay free cooking xp). Same with rune scimitars, the limit is 35k each - they'll hit it, and it'll be hard to purchase in the GE.

My point is that the economy isn't dead right now, just a couple markets are.

I might point out a crucial difference between the Runescape economy and the real-life economy, if it hasn't already been mentioned: Runescape doesn't have unemployment. Everyone can always have a job.

Also, it's easy to switch from buying to selling. If pure essence were to rise to 200 gp, I could mine rune essence and make excellent cash. If pure essence dropped to 50 gp, I could switch to runecrafting and still make excellent cash. If prices remain stable, well then there can't very well be an economic doomsday. No matter what happens, it can't stop me from getting rich.

Remove alching. I'm quite confident that Runescape would fall apart. :ohnoes:

When alot of players stop playing runescape.

Eindhoven_by_Sadocles.jpg
[First and foremost there is no trade. There is no exchange of goods, no wealth passed between characters.

Secondly there is no consumption. No one is using the goods produced, and they just sit.

Lastly there is no production. No one is producing anything, nothing is generated.

Sounds like the US economy

98% of all runescape players wastes most of their time on skilling, if you are one of the 2% that stayed with player killing. Put this in your signature.

there is no runescape economy, there is a socialist mirror of that though...

Two things in my mind has really hurt the "economy" that RS has. Trade limit and G.E. I don't recall anyone complaining about the trading or economy before those two systems. They were made to prevent all kinds of bad things but as far as I can see they only have made things more difficult for an average player. Sure those things would be awesome if they had no flaws but ofc someone will always find a way to "exploit" them like the merch clans do now. (As much as I hate them I can't really say that they are doing anything wrong.)

I'd rather see those 3lvl, bald headed, green shirted bots cutting yews behind Lumbys palace making money for those evil sites that sell RS money for real life money than have weird restrictions for selling, buying and giving away things.

Oh well, It is Jagex who decides how I can play their game.. -.-
