Either way, I think the parents are going to need a bigger security detail than Obama for disowning her because of something that wasn't her fault. People like that need to be raped by some big guy named Bubba and then left without help to see how the girl feels in this situation. And those boys should face the same fate. As for the 9 and 10 year old boys, I've known some that age in harsh conditions who would know exactly what rape was. Assuming that these children were worse off than those ones, I could definitely see them being conscious and decisive in their actions, even if they were led to them by the older children. Sure, they might not have done it by themselves, but with some prodding from the older boys, I wouldn't doubt that they knew enough to make their own decisions. Our culture too often underestimates the capabilities and capacities of our youth.

It isn't just religion. People aren't all hardwired with white, middle-class 1990s values. People from other parts of the world (take Liberia) have entirely different ways of thinking. Their brains will consider problems differently, as they're used to an entirely different environment. Being an immigrant (or refugee) anywhere would suck.

There are reasons behind morals, and I can't see any rational reason to blame someone for something they had no control over.

 

 

 

There are lots of things I do disagree with though like not allowing gays to marry and not allowing abortions. It's a matter of thinking for yourself - I don't let those white 1990's values dictate what I believe in. In societies that don't really allow the freedom to think for yourself, it's no wonder people think it's okay to make human sacrifices and whatnot.

I agree. The advantage we have in the West, and the reason why our morals are (mostly) more refined, is that we allow an open dialogue. With the world changing at the rate it does, what good is are moral guidelines that are set in stone? Question, conclude, amend.

It's for the most part never true, and a lot of emotionally unstable girls will do anything for attention. A girl I didn't even know cried rape on me and my roomate this year at college. I'm not saying I didn't know her that well, I mean I literally had never met or seen her in my life. My roomate had seen her around at school but never talked to her. Turns out she had deep psychological problems and the charges were dropped.

ONE of four boys charged with raping an eight-year-old girl in the US state of Arizona last week will be prosecuted as an adult.

 

 

 

The details of the case have shocked local officials and provoked outrage across the United States after the parents of the young victim disowned her on grounds she had "shamed" her family.

 

 

 

Officers responding to screams from an empty shed in an apartment complex on July 16 found the partially-clothed girl and four boys aged 9 to 14 running away.

 

 

 

The four boys had lured the girl into the shed with chewing gum.

 

 

 

They held her down and took turns raping her for about 10 to 15 minutes, according to Phoenix police.

 

 

 

The girl's parents shocked officers when they said she had brought shame to the family and did not want her back.

 

 

 

"This is a deeply disturbing case that has gripped our community," Maricopa County lawyer Andrew Thomas said.

 

 

 

"Our office will seek justice for the young victim in this heartrending situation."

 

 

 

The girl is now in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services.

 

 

 

No charges will be filed against the parents, police said.
