I need some advice.

Well I only took three years of foreign languages and I do not feel that it negatively affected me. Honestly I'm sure it depends on what college(s) you are interested in and how you meet their requirements in other areas. When I applied for colleges, I honestly can't remember actually finding a college that REQUIRED four years of foreign language. If there are any, I'm sure they're like top of the line schools and given the little information that you stated, you probably wouldn't get into those schools anyway (with a GPA that "isn't great"). I wouldn't worry about it.

As for whether or not it's a guideline or a requirement, it should be stated on the college's website. As I said, none of the colleges that I looked at required four years of foreign language. But if you're really concerned, I would recommend speaking to an academic advisor or a college counselor if you have either available to you.

My GPA is 3.27ish if I remember correctly. Last year I basically passed in half of the essays because I could stay in the C range, but it fell through when I started having family problems and problems with tardiness, so I ended with a couple Ds. I'm in advanced classes, but no AP. I guess this leads to the question: How easy is it to raise a GPA?

As I said, I don't know much about colleges, but I know I want to go to a liberal arts school and one that's pretty well-known. I was looking at Amherst because my uncles went there, but it's changed a bit since they went and it seems a little prestigious.

I need some advice.

For college it wouldn't really matter, nor in real life. Ever heard someone say "oh yea "insert spanish complicated phrase" man, I learned that in highschool and stil remember, 2 years later!" Nope. So few people remember their foreign languages past a year after they stop taking them.

And colleges don't tend to care, just make sure to do well in the ones you take in college.

In the past I have kept in mind how little High School matters in the rest of my life, but it's put me in a bad situation as far as college goes. Not that I care too much, but it's a bit worrying when I go online for college stuff and see people saying "keep your GPA above 4.0 if you want to get into a competitive school".

Thank you both for the responses.

I'm basically screwed when it comes to getting into a good college/university. Spanish 2 was my worst subject last year and I got a C in it first term and then the first D in my life 2nd. I'm done with my 2 year requirement, but it was poor. I do know two languages though, since I am fluent in Lithuanian, and I can also read and write in it. Too bad that colleges probably don't care about less globalized languages. <_<

Starting school in a couple days. Here's my schedule:

EB- Marine Corp JROTC

1-Introduction To Engineering

2-Mass Media

3-French 3/4

4-Chemistry

5-Advanced Geometry

6-Advanced English

I'm looking forward to Mass Media and Engineering.

And EB is early bird. I don't know if that's a universal thing. I go to school an hour earlier and take that class, opening up an extra hour for another class.

It was called zero hour here. But all they offered were classes that freshmen take, and only to juniors and seniors. Then they acted like it was our fault we don't have a zero hour. Wha?

...Who is this they? Ah well.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I seriously doubt colleges would give that much concern with the foreign language of your choice. And if they do, then you're not ready for them. There's tons of junior colleges that would offer you placement without the crazy requirements of "good college". Then you can work from there to enter the "good colleges". Small steps.

Yea, well after doing some research it seems like some schools don't care too much about foreign language. Montana State for example.

I forgot what high school was like. Kind of absurd.

Of course, next year will be worse. Just because I will have already lived a more exciting life than the majority of 20-somethings, and yet I'll be seventeen and a senior. Chuckle giggle laff.

I start Tuesday, and my schedule will look like this.

Wake up 8am

Eat, get ready, all that jazz.

Get to school around 8:45-9 (Starts at 9)

School ends 3:15

Football until about 6.

Get home, eat, mess around, maybe do homework, or even better work until 11-12, then sleep.

My classes first semester are: Chemistry 4U, Biology 4U, Computer Science 4U, Fitness. 4U just means its Grade 12, and a course that universities will accept. Also once football is over I'll probably be hanging out with my friends until about 7. But then when rugby starts in the Spring it'll be the same thing as football.

Second semester I have: English 4U, Philosophy 4U, Exercise Science 4U, and then Physics 4U. Thankfully I finished the two 4U Math courses last year, Advanced Functions, then Calculus and Vectors, so I in fact am going to have 9 4U courses finished by the end of high school.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Solid day I guess. Spanish 5 is going to be awful though and my civics teacher scares the [cabbage] out of me. Other than that it's cool. Film studies and creative writing are going to be great though. Both are with two of my favorite teachers ever. Both awesome guys.

Started school today. Can't wait to go through Mass Media class. We get to critically analyze movies, music videos. We get to make a radio drama. We get to make a music video and movie. It's gonna be fun :D

Otherwise, the rest of school will suck.
