September 18, 200619 yr so we have beerfest Which had a a lot of laughs and was a lot of fun(my one friend fell asleep in the theater......) and The Shining- It was great! First time I watched it, the way everything flowed together and how it all fit just right.
September 18, 200619 yr Author Oh, Indy. Zwartboek is a real recommenation as well. I don't know if it is going to get an american release. But I'm sure you'll get around getting it. :) You need one with sub though, as it is a dutch/german spoken movie. But you should certainly see it! Great war thriller. And I don't say that easy, because I'm not into war movies. :P Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 19, 200619 yr Author Yesterday another festival night (aah, home at 02:30 in the middle of the night) and now I need to open the show in half an hour (09:00 in the morning) I'm tirredddz! Anyway, I saw... Scoop - good woody allen. Had great laughs. It's another crime story, just as in MATCH POINT, but whereas MP was more serious this movie was a lot lighter, giving a lot of laughs. Scarlett Johanson was great, and she even got the honer to be presented as a true Woody Allen in the opening scene of the movie. Johanson and Allen were a great movie troughout the movie, despite the age difference you could really feel the chemistry. I enjoyed it a lot. Elementarteilchen (Elementary Particles) wereas SCOOP was so funny, this movie was very heavy and depressing drama, with sometimes little jokes of which me and my friend seemed to be the only ones getting them. As everything was so stiff and snobby, you know rich 50+ers. That feel interesting because they see a foreign language movie. It was the opening of the literature program of the festival, so that's why, I think.. Anyway, story was interesting. Acting and music was powerfull. Though I still feel they held back during the ending. Could've been more extreme and would've fit better IMO. But I don't know how that was in the book, so I'm even going to read the book. There were some messy parts in the movie though. Still a recommendation for you dramalovers out there. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 19, 200619 yr Severance - Horror/Comedy. Went to the cinema to see it the other night, being advertised as 'funnier than Shaun Of The Dead', which meant for me that it had to be pretty darn funny. What a let down! Such a great cast with Tim McInnory, Danny Dyer, that Bond villain, and that chick from 24 - and yet it fell flat. The comedy element was almost non existant, although there were a couple of moments where I stifled a short laugh. So that leaves the horror part of the film, which by itself would have made for a good movie. Lots of gruesomeness, but it takes far too long to get going, although when it does it's pretty gory. A guy gets his leg severed off by a bear trap - and the aid of his friends as they try to get it off his leg, only to keep letting it go by accident and slamming it back onto his leg, eventually cleanly cutting it off. VERDICT? Avoid this film! Scarface - Watched this last night. One of my housemates works down in the local Game shop and his Boss went to a convention and got the DVD for free and gave it to my mate who in turn gave it to me because he doesn't really like it. I liked Al Pacino in the Godfather Trilogy and this film for me has cemented his status as one of my favourite actors. He plays such a different role to Michael Corleone, and the story of corruption, greed, and the neverending search for happiness makes this one of the best Gangster movies ever produced as it is so well told. Certainly a lot of cursing and violence - not a family film! The end scene is terrific. VERDICT? Brilliant! ~Ian Retired Tip It Moderator | Zybez Radio DJ - Listen Here
September 19, 200619 yr Author Ugh, Scarface. See the old one. It's much better. And pre-hays, so still interesting. :) Tonight the third film by the sea festival day for me. Going to see: El Aura and Tony Takitani :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 19, 200619 yr Author El Aura - A little dissapointing. Infact, I didn't like it all. It was weird, it didn't fit. Never got close to the characters. Which is quite important for a thriller. Here and there some nice moments. The music was annoying. 5/10 Tony Takitani - Was as expected very good. But unexpected became the best movie of the festival so far, for me. Really great, relaxed and subtle Japanese story. Lonelyness, materialism, you name it. Great narration which had a cool combination with the narration-character saying a line-narration continues. Very well shot, although the slides became a little bit too much after a while. Nontheless very much worth it! Brilliant score. A true recomendation! So far seven movies at the festival in three days. :) Wish I took a week of vacation this week so I could go with him. In total he's seeing 36 movies, I only got time for 12. :( Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 20, 200619 yr Mononoke-hime - Another masterpiece of animation by Miyazaki, I enjoyed it just as much as Spirited Away. Not much to say, if you like animated movies (not anime, just animated) then you will probably enjoy it. If you don't, then you probably won't. Tian bian yi duo yun - The Wayward Cloud. Talk about one ****ed up movie. That is the best way to describe it I think. The description I gave my cousin was "A Chinese watermelon p0rno on acid." Unsuprisingly, I enjoyed it. Crazy movies are more or less always enjoyable. I don't think I can really say much about it, the one criticism I have of it was its length. Like Daan said, there was great cinematography during these scenes, but I just thought it was a bit too long sometimes. The musical scenes were really nicely placed, so it was never too bad. And yes, the end was awesome. Definently recommended for the people who like crazy movies. 12 monkeys - not your tipical time travel movie, pretty nicely done, lots of details to check out around scenes too I enjoyed 12 Monkeys a lot also. In fact, just seeing your post makes me want to watch it again :D @Daan: I'm not seeing much about Zwartboek, I might have to wait a while for that one. :( EDIT: Typo in a title name :x .
September 20, 200619 yr Author Haha, glad you liked it, Indy! I wasn't sure if it was your kind of thing. :P Tony Takitani is a recommendation as well, though it might be pretty hard to find as well. Zwartboek is the Dutch thing for the oscars comming this year. It hasn't got distrubtion in America, but if it gets accepted for the oscars (which I think it will, because Verhoeven made it and it is really good) it might get a limited theater-release in America. And you'll have more chance on finding it on the net as well. But I recommend seeing it in cinema. :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 21, 200619 yr Author Hmm, last night. No festival. :( But my friend paid me a vissit. And I felt like seeing a Kubrick, as that was quite a while ago. And he wanted a war movie, and he doesn't like black and white movies. The movie was, of course, very good. And he wanted a war movie, and he doesn't like black and white movies. The movie was, of course, very good. Why doesn't he like black and white movies? Many people don't like them, I have just never understood it. Oh well, most of us here know better, and that's what really matters. :D The Iron Giant - It was a pretty good animated movie. I enjoyed the 1957 setting in which everyone is worried about the Russians and Sputnik. Other than that it was pretty much just a normal animated movie, nothing too special. I did enjoy it a little more though. Fun Fact: Pete Townshend from the band The Who is the executive producer. This movie is written and directed by the same person who wrote and directed The Incredibles, named Brad Bird. The Incredibles is coming up soon on my list, so I'll judge Mr. Bird after I've seen it. "The Office" season 1, 2 (US version) - Season 3 starts tonight, left on a pretty big cliff hanger last season. I decided to watch all of the episodes once more before season 3 starts so I would remember everything. It is a good thing I did, because for some reason I completly missed an episode. It is really confusing me, because it was the third to last episode of season 2. I was watching it every Thursday since halfway through the season, and the ones that I missed I would aquire pretty quickly. It was a really funny one too, maybe because it was the first time watching it and I had seen the others all once or twice. The 40 Year Old Virgin - Felt like watching some more Carell and I had just finished The Office, so I figured I would watch this. It is a pretty funny movie, and since it's a comedy that is good.
September 23, 200619 yr Fearless (2006) - Just saw it tonight and I thought it was pretty good. Good character development, makes you ask how/whys and find out slowly later, nice looking scenery, and great fights. Basically, a story of the tragic hero with cool fights, a bit like in Gladiator. Pixel sigs by me.Pixel Art
September 23, 200619 yr Author Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - ha, haha, hahaha, hahahaha, hahahahaha, hahahahahahahahahaha, hahahahahahahaha, hahahahahahaha hahahahahaha! 10/10 Oh man, who are those losers here who make those stupid changes? It's pathetic. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 23, 200619 yr Just saw Jackass 2. Truly amazing, better than the first. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
September 24, 200619 yr jack a 2 if u havent seen it u gotta see it sooooooo halerious i was laughing the whole 1 1/2 hours no joke its that funny!!!!! 10 times funnier then the first one 311 is the greatest band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 98% Of teenagers surround their minds with rap music, if you're part of the 2% that stayed with rock, put this in your signature
September 24, 200619 yr The Third Man - My favourite film and i have seen it many, many times before but it never looses anything with each viewing. Orson Welles is better in this than Kane even if he is a supporting lead actor as is Joseph Cotten. Not that i don't love Kane but this is much more entertaining. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
September 24, 200619 yr Monthy Python's Life of Brian - No explanations needed. really. [Star Wreck][PM me][My gallery][DeviantArt][Cool T-shirts!][iron Sky - Trailer is now out!]
September 24, 200619 yr Author Cashback was alright, here and there some flaws. Losing balance at some points. And visualizing insomnia the way it was done wasn't very orignal either. But generally quite good. Quite a few great moments and the slides were very well done as well. And a lot of boobs. :) Scoop - Wrote somethign about it a page ago, I think. It was still good. OSS 117: Le Caire nid d'espions - We didn't really know what this was about, but I had already seen WTC, so we went seeing this one. Well, it could go out every way, but we never expected a James Bond spoof. And we had a good time, lots of laughs. Jean Dujardin was an amazing Sean Connery. :D Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 24, 200619 yr i'm watching my bond movies in order as "back-to-back as i can get them. Ususually it's 3 a night, occasionally 4. Gotta admit, I seem to like the older ones more than the later ones. Might just be the nostalgia of it all, but they just seem to work better.
September 24, 200619 yr Author Didn't you do that like two months ago as well? :o Junkie. :P You should see OSS: 117 Rick. I think you'll enjoy it as it is a Bond spoof. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 24, 200619 yr Yes I did, and I'm not a junkie. I watch a lot of series back-to-back. Alien [AVP and Predator], Lethal Weapon, Jurrasic Park, Indiana Jones, Austin Powers, Back to the Future, James Bond, Harry Potter, Matrix [and Animatrix], Star Wars :P
September 24, 200619 yr Author But, doesn't it get boring. Watching the same movies over and over again? :P Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
September 24, 200619 yr Eulogy - A pretty decent comedy, but I think its one that you will either like or dislike. I liked it, but I could see how some wouldn't. I enjoy seeing Zooey Deschanel on screen, so that's a plus :P . Ray Romano is in it too, gave a pretty good performance. "My Name is Earl" season 1 - I like it, but it can be annoying at times. If you like making fun of white trash, you would love this show. A lot of the time it's just annoying, when it's supposed to be funny. It's on right before "The Office", which is the only reason I watched it the first season. I'll kind of keep up with it this season, but it's not all that important. Unbreakable - From the writer/director of Signs and The Sixth Sense. This would be my favourite out of these three I've seen. It was good, and I liked the ending. Decent storyline, and decent acting.
September 24, 200619 yr I watched Lucky Number Slevin. It was entertaining, but sloppy. It seemed at first to be along the lines of a crime-comedy, but turned to a crime-drama about half way through. With this, you could never really take it seriously, but you couldn't laugh at it either. I mean, it was entertaining, and the way it played out wasn't bad, but it just didn't really have a clear goal.

A lot of people thought it was horrible, and hated it, but I thought it was ok. Interesting story, just could probably have been done better.
