  • I watched Ghostbusters last night. Funny movie for those who haven't seen it.

The Devil wears Prada. Bad. The only thing that stopped me walking out was that Anne Hathaway looked really hot in it. I give it a 4/10

I willingly sat through The Princess Diaries just because of her :D .

Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin - Doing them altogether because there isn't much to talk about. They actually are pretty crappy. Tim Burton did the first two so I had pretty high hopes for it, they were OK, but still not as good as I expected. The last two just sucked. Now I am a Marvel fan, and Batman is DC but I never held anything against him. Hell, I still like the character. These movies just suck.

Batman Begins - I only remembered bits and pieces of the other four, since I haven't seen them in so long. I just watched this a few months ago, and felt like watching it again. I figured I should watch the first four before I watched this one again. After watching all five, I think it would be best to separate this one completely from the others. This one is actually good, in fact I would say this one is great. There is only one thing I enjoyed more out of the first four more than this one, and that is the way Gotham looked. This one makes it look like a city, yes a dark city but mostly normal. The Narrows look like horrible slums, but pretty normal too. In the first movie there were huge statues everywhere, and the city just looked completely dark and awesome (I liked it at least). The graphics were definitely better in this one, and this isn't a complaint as much an observation.

Before watching the movie I just assumed him to be a dirty old man but my view of him totally changed. It also had a very good message about freedom of speach and especially against the religious right.

Face/Off I remember being it one of my favorite movies when I was young. I saw it for the first time on the birthday party of my elemtryschool friend Tom. Now I finally bought it on DVD, and saw it yesterday. And I still loved it. Lot's of Peckinpah influences, which happens in more Woo films, and the mirror scene. Brilliant.

Drugstore Cowboy I hadn't seen this van Sant yet, so I decided to watch it this morning. And it was pretty good, as the title suggests, it's about junkies who rob drugstores for their drugs. It's pretty rough, but I liked it. Especially the 'experimental' scenes were cool. Good drugs movie, but no Requiem for a Dream.

Punishment Park - Wow. I don't really know what to see. It was very, very, very good. See it.

I watched The Last King of Scotland...It was ok, but nothing stellar. Forrest Whittaker was pretty good, but I wouldn't say as good as last years Best Actor (Phillip Seymour Hoffman),

It felt kind of incomplete, disconnected almost, as if you were observing rather than actually being in the movie. Another factor cud be that I ended up finishing it at 5:45 in the morning  .

bestsiggycopy5bo.jpg

Children of Men - Absolutally loved the theme for the movie and the settings. The plot on the other hand seemed a bit lacking in places and the ending really annoyed me. [hide]Biggest plot flaw in a long time. He can row a boat without looking so much as hurt, then when he isn't needed by the film any more, a gunshot wound appears. Rubbish.[/hide]

This movie had tonnes of potential and in some aspects, it delivered brilliantly. Grimey, dark, apocolyptic setting, some brilliant fight scenes and some good characterisation. The excitement level couldn't be maintained though and there were gaps in the awesomeness. 7/10.

Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!

Blazing Saddles - Pretty funny the first time through, not quite as good the second. It's still good, but much like all of Mel Brook's other movies I've seen it doesn't have much replay value.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Unlike the movie mentioned above, this one has a lot of replay value. Sure, not quite as good the fifth time through as the first time, but still awesome.

Spider-Man 3 - Wrote a review in the topic for this, ended on a "much better than expectations note" but there was a good amount of the movie that I was thinking it was going to be much, much worse.

"Firefly" and then Serenity - I don't know why I do this to myself. I tried and I tried not to watch it, but I just couldn't help myself. I really should have someone hide my DVDs of this so that I can't watch them, for say a year. It kills me more every time I watch them. Firstly, because this is the fourth time through for the whole series, and I don't want to "get sick of them." Secondly after it is over I feel an unhealthy amount of anger that there isn't anymore to watch. I can't even put it into words, you just have to experience it.

Bride of Frankenstein It's a perfect night for mystery and horror, the air itself is filled with monsters! Goddamn, it's so good. Those wonderfull sets that remind you of Dreyer's work, those little people in the glasses, the editing on brining the monster's bride to life, the fantastic script, and of course KARLOFF! Ooh, I never get enough of it.

Spiderman 3. Better than the critics said it was, but still short of the mark.

7/10

Indiana Jones 2 (Temple of Doom). Ain't seen this since I was a kid (just bought the boxset). Forgot how cheesy it was, but still loved it. Especially the "Snake Surprise Meal". hehe. 7/10

The New Guy - Generic high school movie. Some funny parts.

Coffee and Cigarettes - Different, and OK. Not great, but by the end I was enjoying it a decent amount.

Empire Records - I enjoyed it somewhat. Can be pretty funny, the humour is a little different. There are some pretty stupid parts (not stupid-funny) though.

Terminator 1 - Hadn't seen this one in a long while, what a great movie.

Dark Days - filmed by Marc Singer, it is a complete documentary about a shantay town of hobos living underground in disused railway tracks. Literally they built towns down there. Very interesting considering Singer himself was a Hobo living down there who decided to record it all and sell it in an effort to get them all out. Scary, funny and emotional.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

spidey 3, amazing stuff there

Hey, Satenza. Have you heard about the new release of Pennebaker's Don't look back? It's a fantastic documentary! And I can only recommend it. If you're interest I can also recommend the 'deluxe' edition. As it comes with more footage on disc two, a book to acompany the documentary and as a cool bonus a flip book on subterranian homesick blues. It's worth every penny, especially for the Dylan fan. :)

I've seen a couple of things since Bride of Frankenstein. I went to cinema and saw the American remake of Theo van Gogh's INTERVIEW. I never really liked the orignial version, and I didn't really like this one either. But it was better than the first. More interesting was the short movie Raak which they showed before the movie started. You can see it here. Don't worry, it's perfectly legal. Click the part that says "Video. Raak. Regie: Hanro Smitsman". Takes 10 minutes and worth your time (no subtitles though, but that doesn't really matter, the image speaks for itself). Later I saw David Lean's A PASSAGE TO INDIA which wasn't bad. Had a few moments of brilliance, but had some bad parts as well. Much better was Jean Renoir's THE RIVER which plays in India as well. I had seen it before, but felt like watching it again thanks to A Passage to India. Then what did I see more, tonight I had a friend over, and I decided to show him FREAKS. And that was a good choice, he really liked it, and it was a pleasent surprise, because his wife is facinated by freaks, and had never seen the movie, so he's got a nice gift for mothersday. :)

So I Married an Axe Murderer - Pretty funny, a little eccentric story but I guess that is what makes it funny.

The Gift - Just found out this was directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead and Spider-man trilogies). Not my type of movie, I guess it was OK.

Psycho - I've seen it a good amount of times, I know what's going to happen, and it still freaks me the hell out. It's a classic, it's great, it's awesome. The draw back is I can't stop looking over my shoulder, and I have all the lights on in my room, because half the room being dark freaked me out. That is the kind of mood you get into while watching it and after.

A Good Year - despite the bad reviews, I actually really enjoyed this. Idyllic setting.

I never see movies, but I guess the last one I watched was night at the museus, about 3 months or something ago.

Spione (1928 - Fritz Lang) This is the first movie Lang made for his own production company. And as we're used from him it's groundbreaking. He basically set the standard for the Spy-thriller. And other elements from his movies come back again, as well as new things that you would see in later films. The criminal mastermind in search of power, the media presure, his incredible eye for detail and of course the amazing sets. The new score by Donald Sosin on the Masters of Cinema release fits the movie perfect. Recommended!

I watched Little Children. It was ok, surprisingly intrigueing. My dad walked out after 50 minutes, and I'm on medication so half way through the movie I threw up alot and the stench made me feel sick.

But anyways, I really couldn't stop watching. It had sort of a creepy kind of feeling, so even though I was afraid somethign terrible was going to happen, I had to know what happened to the characters. Overall an OK movie, but just very interesting.
