What did you do today?

Today was my off day; I just started the Air Alert vertical jumping program, and it's left me pretty sore.

Just bouncing a volleyball around in the backyard with my dog. If it was warmer, I would've gone for a light bike.

I went to work out in the morning today - terrible idea. I was exhausted for the rest of the day <_< . Incline, decline and horizontal bench after a 20 minute run.

The only upside - my biceps were so engulfed after my workout that I had a nice pillow to sleep on. I fell asleep on my arm in the library and had a dream where I tripped/fell and woke up instantly, knocking my books all the way on the other side of the super long table. I wanted to get out of there ASAP and even ignored the pretty girl blushing at me - I was too embarrassed to start hitting on anyone.

Jesus you guys are lazy.

I did a 10 minute sprint on a rowing machine today and my back is killing me. I was so sure I had proper posture but with no friends to check on me I guess I slipped up:thumbdown:

After my 2k erg (rowing machine) last week I'm comfortably in the second boat again. On a side note, that 2k was the most painful thing one ever done. I can't remember the last 100m and was on the floor semi-conscious for 10 minutes after.

Anyway, we're back into the old routine, so had weights this morning. Did a 2x6k UT2 yesterday because we couldn't have an outing, boring and sweaty.

Did legs today, increased weight on squat and leg press. Feel pretty good right now, although I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow. Here's my leg workout:

Squat - 4 sets

Leg press - 4 sets

Leg extension - 3 sets

Seated Hamstring curl - 3 sets

Hip flexor machine - 3 sets

Calf raises - 3 sets

Called the Widow maker (on an erg/rowing machine)

1 x 1000m

3 x 500m

6 x 250m

3 x 500m

1 x 1000m

Minimum rate 30. Rest for the time it took you to complete previous interval.

We did it in pairs with one person resting while the other did their interval, all the pairs raced. Me and my partner won, which was good. The last 1000m was properly, properly grim though.

Did that on Thursday, had weights yesterday morning and an outing today and tomorrow.

Good lord assassin, that's insane.

In case you aren't sure how hard that is because you've never rowed before: I personally feel like shooting myself after 1000m, and doing 2x1000m usually makes me vomit. I've never gone above 2000m in one session, because I'd rather not die really

2h 30 mins tennis yesterday, same today. We started playing outdoors on clay again, so i'm pretty destroyed. especially after matching with my coach yesterday, and my other coach today. I'm in better shape than i've even been in though, so they liked my physical play and "stayer-ability". It's nice to see all the hard work translate to winning more points, not just looking good :P different muscles used on clay vs. hardcourt though, so i'm pretty destroyed all over. happy, but physically empty.

Never done a 2k before?! Ah man, you should, they're fun  Some people say 5k's are worse but I never want to black out quite like I do in that last 600m of a 2k. Here's a fun pic of the Cambridge crew after their last 5k

Weirdly we did two more ergs this last week which were as bad as or worse than the widowmaker. First was 15 minutes/10 minutes/5 minutes at 80% of 2k max wattage with a four minute rest. That was designed so that you had to stop at somepoint (if your wattage falls below 80% for more than three strokes), then you rest for 1 min and start again where you left off. I stopped once in the 10 minute stretch, died a bit, then carried on.

Thursday's was [[45 seconds on/15 seconds off] rest 5 mins]x3 at 100% 2k wattage. 15 seconds is no rest and you have to wind the flywheel going each time which takes more effort. Four of us collapsed at the end of that one and one person crawled away to throw up out of a window. I think that's the worst one I've ever done, especially in the heat. I was just swearing at my monitor by the end in a delirious rage.

I went to the gym again this morning, I've decided that I need to start doing some exercise again, cos I'm not playing rugby this year. So my flatmate and I have decided that Saturdays will be gym in the morning, and the cricket nets in the afternoon

Went to the gym last night as a way to "de-stress" after a good day's revision.

Squats, deadlifts, pullups, barbell rows, chinups and curls. Primarily a back and biceps workout with some squats thrown in because squats are king. Although having a heavy bar resting on your back with epic sunburn on your back is fairly excrutiating.

I added cardio into my routine yesterday and it blows, I hate riding a stationary bike and sweeting up a storm seeing a figurative distance traveled on the control panel.

I keep cardio outside of the Gym, I found it pretty de-motivating seeing two miles on the 'Distance Travelled' but hadn't actually moved anywhere! I've found lots of places around my area that I didn't know existed, fresh air and you can truly say you accomplished something! That's what worked for me, anyway.

In the nature of the topic; I did my 30minute weight routine and my floor exercises.

I had two exams today so I went to the gym with some buddies afterwards to unwind. Stayed for about two hours and did some intense shoulder and arms work out. I also learnt a pretty badass workout from one of our teachers: 1 pullup, get down, 1 pushup, 1 pullup, 1 pushup, etc. as fast as possible, repeating until you are dead. Pretty fun.

Walking lunges with 135 on my back. I usually do stationary lunges with dumbells on my side. This was...painful to say the least.

How do you find getting the bar on your back? I could always lunge with more than I could safely lower to behind my neck, so it always felt a bit weird getting the weight there. I guess if the squat rack's close that'd help but at my old gym there was a bit of a walk to the indoor track.

No training for rowing at the moment so just going to the gym every other day to keep things ticking over and unwind. I've got squats, cleans and a few other shoulder exercises planned for tonight. Maybe some snatches too.

Yeah my gym has plenty of squat racks so I usually use the rack. I feel nice and dangerous stepping out over the side of the rack and walking a nice heavy barbell over to the open floor. lol. My gym has an open area pretty close though.

Or...you can try the Steinborn lift

I must say I never tried it myself.
