3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion

I know this isn't about PHats or anything, but every day I'm usually logging on RS for a few minutes to update G.E offers, and that is the extent of my RS playing. I've managed to make around 26m since the beginning of summer on f2p items only, and limited knowledge as to what is currently going on. I know the updates but don't really know what they mean for the economy.

 

The past week I noticed I was having a hard time buying or selling some raw mats, and also noticed certain bars have crashed in price pretty bad recently. What exactly is going on?

 

Also I'm debating whether or not to buy a Santa hat once I get enough and just stop "merching." Can I even buy a Santa? Should I wait until I have like 40m and then buy one so I still have some to merch with?

Can anyone provide some insight? Mostly I want to know if I can/should buy santa on G.E

 

The lower rares, like Santa's and masks, will never be completely bought out so yes you will be able to buy one. Only buy a rare if you want to invest before quiting for a bit or if you have excess cash that you want to use on one. Never buy a rare if that's all your money you have even if that is your long term goal; always keep a few million to play around with.

Spectrals and arcanes are falling a bit. Can be bought on GE. Divines and elysian still going strong. <_<

For melee, I sold legs automatically at max, plate at 110m after about 5 minutes, and kite for max after about 30 minutes.

Okay thanks for the advice. I'll probably continue to merch until I have 40ish mil maybe then buy one. Only problem is I feel like I've maxed out on the money I can make because I can't find good items to buy/sell. The ones I previously did have been going crazy with their prices lately. If anyone can PM for some extra advice on some items I could try that would be greatly appreciated!

i wouldn't count on it. masks and santas are all easily accessible to the market which is why they aren't bought out like edibles and phats. they can rise in the long run, but can never become bought out like RS44 stated.

The grand exchange works on a first come first serve basis. Oldest and highest valid offer will get the first one of that item sold.

 

There are a few websites out there that will make a noise or a pop-up when the GE beta page changes which is always before or after the GE actually updates. The GE updates at random times everyday so it's hard to predict when it will.

 

If you payed 10M for a green mask you got a good deal. You'll be able to sell it once they stabilize again.

I know there are a few out there such as this one:

You unzip it, then there's another .zip file for some reason. Unzip that also... no installation required.

 

The one I use was created by my friend and only wants his direct friends to partake in it, so I can not release that to you. This one should be good enough as a few of my friend use it and I haven't had any complaints about it. Just set it to the GE database page or a certain item page you are watching.

 

Edibles seem to be doing quite well because of their extremely low GE price. However, they are a lot more common than people think they are and I count them as another 3rd age. They'll hit a price where no one really wants them anymore and crash again. If you have them now or can get one now they're great. In the long run they won't do much.

ARGGGG~ I had a couple eggs before when they were stable but didn't think they would be bought out again. Yet ANOTHER failure. I have certainly lost my touch. I have gone from 1 failed merch since the GE to having 3 failed in the last month not to mention the amount I could have made either from buying and holding inflating items or keeping those eggs. Oh well, I have enough money to keep me happy in F2P so I shouldn't complain.

May aswell tell people about it now, seeing as everyone uses some kind of update notification. I miss the good old days when over a year ago hardly anyone knew about this trick. Me and my friend picked up quite a lot of third age doing it :thumbsup:

Street prices are extremely hard to estimate, but you did a good job. He's a pricing in the terms of other unbuyables.

 

Purple=Pumpkin

Green: Close to yellow but still ~50M lower/ purple+disk/ disk+2 easter

Yellow: Pump+disk or easter/ 2 purple

Red: 2 pump/2+disk+easter/green+pump/yellow+disk+easter

White: 2 reds+disk/3 pump+disk or purple/red+2 pump/red+green+yellow+easter/Elysian

Blue: 2 whites+2 pump/2 whites+red/divine+2 pumps

Cracker: blue+2 whites/blue+4 reds/2 ely+pump-GL though

 

Half wine: 2 blue/blue+2 whites/blue+white+yellow+green+red/blue+white+2 red-GL though

Disk: Street was near or at abyssal's

Easter: Street was near or at abyssal's

Actually, you would have only gained about 20m each. Selling the easters with junk won't gain you anything but less junk. And the only reason you should have junk is because you bought a rare, one of the spirit shields, or 3a. Anything else can be bought off the GE given a day or two.

 

If you ever have junk as a result of training a skill, then you trained the skill wrong.

I know no one can know for certain where masks/santas will go. Yet, is anyone else surprised these other rares have yet to go 10x like the others?

I'm done members in about a week and was wondering if I should take a break, I was thinking about selling almost all of my members items and buying a rare like green mask or santa. Would this be a good investment for the future? If I sold everything I'd have around the 30-35m area. Any expert opinions are needed.

That would be the best choice. Depending on how long you decide to take a break for, the items you have now could be worth half of what they are today. If enough updates make your items less useful than they were before they will generally go down. All the while, discontinued items will most certainly always go up in value.
