I see. However, the 2.7x really does not last long. You will be at around 2x after roughly 3 hours, 1.5x after 5, and around 1.2 after 8 hours.

over 2x exp for 3ish hours is still amazing w/ no boosts

If it works, Ill be planting trees/fruit trees the day before, then check the health on all of them to get about 2.7x xp

Then I'll be using most of my charms to get quite a bit of Summoning xp, probably blues and crimsons first.

But but but but but but why...?

We all like a little extra experience, but what the hell is this?

Weekends are already crowded enough on the weekend, do they want extra people to log on?

I want to know why they're doing this.

Maybe I'm looking a gifthorse in the mouth, but this is completely out of left field.

Maybe giving something for people to become members for? Something for people to look forward to, and be "exciting", and different? There aren't many things on r.s to look forward to that you know are definitely happening (obviously things like monsters drops, but they are not certain.)

Also allows people to train their most hated skills, thus being less bored.

All in all to increase money obviously.

This is nice, should drop a *bit* of the insane cost of herblore! I'll try to buy supplies now whilst it's slightly cheapish, then switch to raising summoning if it does start getting a bit too absurd since those herbs and supplies are going to be raised tons >_<

I think Jagex's thoughts in this are that people will get their goals on expensive skills first, then forget about the skill. Then, when the event is over and the hoarders dump their stockpiles, there will be less people training those skills thus lower prices.

At least I hope that's it...or maybe Jagex is doing this as a guise to start sneaking items into the GE making new supply. Under a buyout it wouldn't be as easy to tell that there is abnormal amounts of items coming in.

I was planning on keeping all my herbs from MTK until I left P2P in a month, but looks like I'll be dumping them all into the GE durring that weekend.

OH! Someone should look at the trade volumes for the past 30 days now, record them, then compare them in another 30 days after the event is over and hoarders have dumped.

I'm kind of beginning to think that this is going to help us somehow, whether it will help with an update next week or the week after or it might be the new skill will come out next week. Who really knows why Jagex really did this.

wait why the heck would a hoarder dump their supplies AFTER the event is over?

a smarter should really be selling on the day of the event, or a few days before depending on how the outlook is

I don't see jagex sneaking items into GE. I mean by all means it's possible.

But i don't think a smart merchant would bet his money on conspiracy theories.

anyways back on point. I'd imagine prices would go dip below current mid prices, after the update, before returning to equilibrium in the long run.

Alot of people would have satiated their goals. Not to mention the actual amount of xp/material consumed during the weekend would be boosted, comparable to a short boost in supply.

Taking herbs's exemple, many will be made into various potions, many people hoarding herbs in the pas few weeks for their own use might sell them when seeing unusually higher prices, more herb farming should be done, etc.

Recording that would be impossible.

Not as much as you think. I wouldn't be surpirsed if prices of thing doubled by the time this happen, so it'll be slightly faster for half an hour, then after that it'll go back down and in the long run, it'll cost more. Basically, stick to runecrafting, agility, mining, hunting, etc.

1)Mining and hunter will be overcrowded.

2)Prices will settle after a while.... Sure, it'll rise a bit, but then fall....

I dont see why were fighting over something like this. Why are we whining that this is stupid? I was reading posts earlier and thinking, wow, typical update, no matter what Jagex decides to post, people will complaine because we feel like it. Other games do something like this all the time. Double EXP weekends happen all the time in HALO, and CALL OF DUTY. Its generally the same, except your leveling only one number instead oh 23. And the thing is, while people complain that this double exp is too much, people LOVE double exp weekends in other games. They appreciate what is being given to them and theyre making their time to get the most out of it as possible.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it's appropriate to this game. There's a culture here where high level players want the skills they have achieved to remain difficult to everyone else, otherwise they feel cheated. Admittedly, this time it won't make much of a difference, but if they do it too much, there is going to be some raised eyebrows.

I can understand where your coming from, as a scaper from 04', I can understand what you mean by wanting the achieved difficult skills. Soul Wars moved my defence rank from under 20k ti roughly 33k (although not a big big differnece, it does mean something to me)

But thats now the joys of not being ocmpletly maxed yet ;)

This double exp weekend will help me in the same way stealing creation has helped me from 70-85 crafting, free bonus exp.

EDIT: I completly forgot responding to you sayign "just because its there doesnt mean it has to be here"

Something like those, because of their sucess, may have influenced Jagex to add something in the game. I guess we'll just have to see how this plays out.

This is stupid. Seriously, they enjoyed their skill when it got them more money/more satisfaction.....

Sure, smithing was harder at the beginning, but you would get bucketloads of money for that.

If you don't have 200M xp in every skill, there's a way to benifit from that. So everyone is gonna benifit.

I certainly hope they'Re gonna do it like twice a year. More than that, and I'd agree it's too much.

Also, nice decision to make it on the weekend, so that everyone can benifit,.

That has *never* been in Runescape. The games you speak of have had them in their games since they were designed. They created a whole Minigame devoted to giving you double or slightly over double experience in certain skills. We don't feel like complaining. We're criticizing a planned update that we don't like.

It's simply a bad idea.

Meh. Not going to help with getting 99 prayer on my zerker pure so idc.

Zerker_jane.png

Does anyone have a quirky formula that would give the total extra xp in a skill if trained for 10 hours until it reaches the constant 1.1x ?

I did a few numbers in my head and worked it out to be 1.71x? As in training a skill for the full 10 hours on 1 skill would yield overall 1.71x, and then 1.1x constant after that.

Although that just seems wrong to me looking at it

Or is it just not possible to work this out?

No, those games were not designed to have double experience weekends -- double experience weekends started long after their respective releases. But, yes, they are "designed" completely differently in that Runescape is much more intricate and there is a much larger fallout with something like this. Yes, there are large implications to consider as the result of such an event, but I consider Jagex smart enough to have at least considered these. Maybe they are incorrect, but I will at least give them a shot. Just because a double experience event has never been tried on Runescape before does not inherently damn them, don't you think? Because when you think about it, nobody really stands to lose anything (assuming the rising prices are not over double...). Especially us -- being some of the earliest to know about it -- since we can act early.

Yeah, there probably is an ulterior motive to such an update, but I don't really bother myself with that... all I know is that I'm going to benefit greatly from this. Indignation is totally understandable, though. Hoarders (myself included) will flip for massive profits and prices will be left inflated in the days (or weeks) after the event until they fall to their original levels...

I'll wait and see, reserving my judgment until after the event. Although maybe my opinion will be biased by my huge new stacks of coins... but I better not get ahead of myself.

Seriously, if you don't like changes you can always play runescape classic

I am in your debt sir, thank you! I wasn't far off using the old noggin either

*Goes off to see how many potions i need to make for 99 herblore"

Edit: I believe you can make around 1600 potions per hour from unfinished, so 16k potions in the first 10 hours. I'l be doing brews as i'm not too clued up on the newer ones and i can sell these on again afterwards.

So 1.69 * 180xp = 304.2

16k * 304.2 = 4867200

Add my current xp = around 7.4m

13m-7.4m = 5.6mxp left.

1.1 * 180 = 198.

5,600,000 / 198 = around 29k (rounded up to give a bit of leverage on the above calcs)

So 45k saradomin brews to get me to 99 herb hopefully.

Not bad considering that would normally be 8.1m xp, and on this weekend if my calculations are corrent will yield around 10.5m, an extra 2.4m herb xp for free.

I hate the idea of extra xp weekends, but hell i masewell make use of it

I doubt it would actually be in a constant evolution, though....

Maybe replace t by [t]

WarBlastoise.png

Would've been nice if this'd happened while I was training Herblore to 85 - would have saved me a lot of money. But oh well. I should be pretty damn close to 88 Summoning. :P

[hide]sevestia.png[/hide]

time for 96 herb and 92 smithing and 99 crafting

Is it just me, or are summoning supplies already unattainable at the GE.
