Urza285
Sorry if this seems like I'm blowing my horn by posting all this, but I'm very interested in how everyones training during the weekend will play out. I'm intrigued to see what lengths people go through to train skills on these bonus xp weekends. I imagine seeing many more people training skills that are very rough on the pocketbook and/or your mental capacity by using the more expensive methods to get the most bang for their buck. Such methods as crafting via dragonhide, runecrafing via tiara crafting, farming via preplanted calquat, mage trees and palm trees, construction via mahogany would seem much more popular on these days since the xp/gp spent would eclipse the normal day xp/gp expendeture. In all honesty this looks like jagex's version of the economic stimulus check to its players. If Jagex manages to get its players to keep the mentality that another bonus xp weekend is looming on the horizon it may get players to push the demand for more of the less conventional training methods. Jagex's seems to like spicing things up and with that why not kill another bird with the same stone by helping jumpstart the economy with a limited timeframe where you can obtain bonus xp. Hell I'll be honest I've got everything a decent player needs to go boss hunting, skill training, do minigames (dragon hatchet for woodcutting, the ring and gloves for firemaking, dragon pickaxe for mining, varrock armour 3 and goldsmith gauntlets for smithing, agile clothes plus the other tidbits for runecrafting (pouches included) and agility, magic secateurs for farming, torags top, bottom, whip, DFS, dragon boots, barrows gloves, amulet of fury, fire cape, red cape, proselyte top and bottom, book of zamorak for melee and prayer tanking, zamorakian spear for dragon tasks, slayer helmet for slayer and camping slayer creatures). *gasps for breath*... I managed to collect 35m from training slayer and collecting charms along the way. Just recently on the 25th I got a staff of light drop putting me at 51.9m gp and two days later a visage drop (ironically on the last iron kill.) putting me at 86.5m gp. My point is that players like me are running out of things they feel they need to buy. I must've spent the past few months trying to figure out why I wanted to buy a bandos godsword or dragon claws... I was just looking for a way to lose my money. For your information I don't like spending my money on skills if I know I'll lose money doing it. I look at it as a last ditch effort (35m on 82-90 construction hurt and 90+ crafting is going to be a black spot in my "rs career"). For those interested here are my plan on 93-96 summoning. If I manage the charms for 97 I'll be amazed. ilovecuttingyews
I'm sure this has been elaborated on. Seriously wtf dragon bones aren't even buying and you can't use a POH Altar for extra experienceA LOT of the people I've talked to ingame were convinced that it stacked with altars until I told them to reread the post. It seems to me that people are just getting caught up in the exitment and not reading the entire post. And with the number of players who don't have a community like Tipit, there are a lot of players who don't know many of the details. I even talked to a poor fellow who thought that it was 3x exp through the entire weekend. :wall: I'm going to just continue on my goals as per usual (all 70+) which I set when I got members. I'll start with checking the health of the 2 yews I have already planted which I was planning on checking today. That's 70 farming. Next up, use my charms to get 67-70 summ. Then I'll mix the last ppots from 68-70 herby (again, was going to get this today). Then probably just agility because I find it the most boring skill and any time saved from it is worth it.So overall, I'm not setting any new goals or doing anything unusual, but I'm just shifting them arround to save me money and time. I'll probably end up slaying for the next couple weeks gaining some charms.
Cha0sx
This is a terrible idea Jagex. There is no excuse in my mind, NO EXCUSE, for doing something like this. RuneScape has always been about keeping a level playing field and this is just giving a huge advantage to certain players. Even though holiday events were limited time events, they never give real in-game advantage to your skill levels. I deeply detest Mod Fnord now. lordkafei
Since I will be doing this on the cheap, I'm thinking agility or monkfishing (the two things I hate most). I'd do summoning - I have a pantsload of charms - but I expect secondaries to go through the roof in the next few weeks, and I am caught flatfooted. Guthorm
Oh god, this is terrible, I have to go and collect all the damn secondaries. I just spend like 2 hours mining 1.5 granite, now I am picking about 1k bananas for fruit bat, then I need to farm about 400 obby charms for lava titan and finally I need to pick 1k swamp toads. Cheefoo
So it seems gilded altars don't work with the bonus, only burying... So much for prayer.I have a feeling curses (such as stun) won't work with the bonus... So much for magic.Doesn't work with sacred clay, so why waste the time on melee, range, woodcutting, mining, crafting etc...?I'm probably going to end up going with herblore. I've been wanting to get extreme pots for a while now, and this could really help. On second thought, probably summoning... Now I should really start collecting the items! Now I should really start collecting the items! why would stun not work while the rest of the magic book still works? its a magic-combat type spell... u cast it.. it fits the description of what will get you bonus exp. i just dont understand why prayer was left out of this bth. i worked hard and spent good money on my gilded alter, why shouldnt it be useable in this situation. prayer is 1 of the hardest skills to train and bones are in demand more now then ever with the release of curse's. eh... looks like il be rune crafting or making potions. but summoning is going to be the best way to spend this update, which i currently dont care about because ive reached my personal goal. once again, jagexs heading down that o so slippery slope. bedman
Sweet, I'm ready to roll out some overloads to work on 99 herb :thumbup:Overloads will be crazy. If you get 1.6x xp for the first 10 hours on average, overloads will be only 18 gp/xp, and will get you 1m xp/h.Overloads are already 1.3m exp an hour -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG_6fmKExeo I really hope they don't do this again, it's ruining the economy. Every single skill is stupidly hard to buy. It's 2 weeks of a messed up economy. Not to mention that a lot of merch clans are setting their items in the next 0-4 hours. I'm sure this has been elaborated on. Seriously wtf dragon bones aren't even buying and you can't use a POH Altar for extra experienceDamn, that's insane. Personally I only managed 600 an hour, but that was without mousekeys. Anyway, castle wars is gonna be hell to find your kyatt, I just realised :(. Another thought of mine: Would it be possible to get a jad task and log out right before jad, then log in at the weekend, defeat Jad and get 75k xp? Or does Jad count as some sort of quest reward? Kalafai
I do believe Jad is considered a bonus exp from an event, rather than getting exp for killing him.

That's the same reason why sacred clay doesn't work, it's a bonus to normal xp. I really think jagex could have waiting at least till like half a week before the "double xp weekend" to tell us this. At least the buyout would only last a few days instead of two weeks that way.

pulli23
I'm really wondering wether I should spent my time on (after doing a farming run + 2/3 hours of summoning) either firemaking or hunting lol... Both are insanely boring, and I would just like to level them both to "required" levels for future quests.. (75 fm, 72 hunt) First they came to fishingand I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing Then they came to the yewsand I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews Then they came for the oresand I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak out for me. Will H
i believe the 2 week notice was to give f2p players plunty of time to pay for membership. I thought MMG wasn't going to go for cheap membership incentives like we saw in the Iddison era. The more I think about it, the more I feel that this is a bad idea. The economy and skill system is delicate, balanced and complex, and repeated exp weekends will damage both. Why are they doing this, anyway? It just seems so un-Jagex like. ~ W ~
Bier
I wrote this at the RSOF, I think it came out OK: Some say that this isn't unfair because everyone gets the same advantage, but that just isn't true. You could compare this to if in real life for a week you would earn twice as much, and everything would cost half the usual price. Everyone can work for that week if they don't have other things to do, so it isn't very unfair (this compares to non-buyable skills and people who can't play for whatever reason). But not everyone would have the money to buy things they would like for half the price, such as a new house or a car, and those that had bought these things before just got ripped off (compares to buyable skills, or skills where you have to collect non-tradeable items beforehand, especially summoning and herblore). It's only 4 hours or so of "real" bonus... Not gonna devalue any cape at all, not gonna change long-term prices. Just an opportunity to finish some goals, that might come something like once 6 months/per year.... No big deal on the economy. Although I'd feel real real bad if I used my charms a few days ago (like I planned to do). But hey, seconds could also have dropped a lot due to another reason.... That's just luck... Urza285
Suddenly everyone feels like they are an economics authority (clearly not the first person to say this, might I add). The only relevent issue would be the amount of xp gained and levels gained. Then again Jagex has been veering towards skill concepts that force people to train rather than buy/afk train a skill. No more make X crap... We have skills like hunter, construction, farming, slayer (more so with strykewyrms because of their special attack), and runecrafting that require a degree of interaction. Because of this change in game play they can afford to do bonus xp weekends. Also Jagex has made it clear they are more focused on the long term play rather than the usual end-game play aspect most games like WoW assume so they can and should be able to get away with bonus xp periods. Thats not to say they aren't focused on end game type material (nomads reqium, corporial beast, etc.). saywuuuut
I'm very excited, I will use whatever charms I have left to try for 68 summoning, then hit the wildy agility course to train my most hated skill ! Jamastiene
I'll try to completely avoid areas where Slayer monsters are that weekend. It will be standing room only and almost impossible to get an arrow in edgewise. I had just planned to train my Construction level from 85 to 90 and bought the oak logs just before I heard about this. I dodged a bullet on the prices. Oak logs have gone up about 10 gp each since I bought mine. I guess I know what I'll be doing the next week and a half...making 15k planks. I'm already bored out of my mind. I'll be relieved to get to stand there and make oak larders for 3 solid hours after getting all the logs made into planks. After the first 3 hours, I'm switching to training Herby until I run out of what I can get banked between now and then from farming (not much). After that, Thieving, as much as I hate it, and I REALLY REALLY HATE IT, will finish out my day. My guess is the master gardeners in Ardy and Draynor are going to be outnumbered and surrounded that day. I'll be pickpocketing every NPC I pass getting there too, just to keep from wasting any more time. I REALLY hate Thieving.
Assume Nothing
I guess over half of RuneScape is selling their high end armours and weapons for the cheap summon/herblore xp you can gain. Lol Overloads with mousekeys will be roughly 3m xp for the first hour. Pretty insane if you ask me. Talon beasts are theoretically 8m xp for the first hour too. Hmm...
