Does anyone actually LIKE every minute of getting a 99?

I keep hearing from people I know that are high level about how they hate trying to get 99s but they push themselves to do it for the bragging rights. Now I never do anything that I don't like to do so I can't sit here and get a 99 before I start dreading it. My question to all of you is mostly why do you get 99s? Have any of you got a 99 and enjoyed the skill all the way there?

Yeah I enjoyed fishing and defense quite a bit. I didn't grind them and eventually got the levels. Now some other 99's I have grinded towards the end of getting 99 and it's really stopped me from wanting to train those skills further.

I can safely say I enjoy at least 95% of my time slaying. The only 99 I hated doing was fletching, but everytime I grew tired of it, I'd stop and do something else. Some players go for 99 for bragging rights while other players simply like playing the game.

The more cynical people will tell you that they're all lying and just putting up flame-shields, but I like to believe at least some people legitimately enjoy skills. I find it easier to believe with the more dynamic skills, such as the combat ones and even dungeoneering.

I enjoy combat skills a lot generally (they're all 99). I suppose the exception to that was prayer, which I did before the altar-x updates. Nearly killed my wrist, but was worth it because I knew that it would get me 126 combat and maxed combat stats. My only non-combat 99's are herb and cooking, which were both easy and fast even if I didn't enjoy actually training them. I would have nearly maxed total if I did force myself to train skills I didn't enjoy.

I've enjoyed getting 91 slayer. I'll enjoy getting 99 when I eventually train it again, but at the rate that melee updates are coming, I'll be saving it for last: combat will be twice as powerful after another year or two of melee updates.

I enjoyed getting 99 Hunter because it was my first 99, I was 132nd to 99, and the spots weren't very crowded because it was just released and red chinchompas were quite cheap.

I've enjoyed training the AFK skills like woodcutting ivy since I can have fun in other places while getting all that experience.

Herblore was possibly fun because the exp is so fast! A lot of the mindless refining skills were somewhat enjoyable to power through as well.

My least favorite skill, by far, is mining. Even the Living Rock Caverns do not make mining bearable for me. It's one of my lowest skills and will probably be one of the last I level to 99.

I definatly enjoyed getting 99 att/str/def/hp because for att and def I was training through slayer where I can easily chat wit friends, others slaying and theres just more variety then

Tinerbox-->maples logs over and over for about 100k maple logs. For 99 str I camped armour zombies but it was acually some of the most fun I had but the reason for that being that I had my best friend in the game who I've know for years training with me so it was pretty much like haning out with good xp rates. :P

I've tried for non combat 99s such as firemaking but by 75 I was.... burnt out.....not punny... Next non-combat 99 I tried for was fletching which made it to 65 I only got it higher for quests and seers diary. And the last non-combat skill I tried to get to 99 was cooking I was 76 when I started and I'm 79 atm which took like one day to get bored.

I also like dungeoneering alot so it could be a rather long term 99 because I enjoy it alot and usually do a few dungeons between tasks or just when I get bored of whatever else I'm doing.

Overall I'd say its player interaction that makes a skill fun, well dungeoneering I usually solo but I can still pm my friends and such.

Slayer; it's just what I do.

Hmm, great question!

For my first 99 (firemaking) the only time I didn't it was when I was in very high levels (97,98) Just felt like it would never stop.

For woodcutting, I enjoyed a whole lot. Still one of my favorite skills, I think levels 94-97 were the worse out of all of them.

Fletching I just did for the lulz. I did enjoy it though.

I enjoyed most of 99's a lot...except for Fletching (don't know why), but generally when I go for a 99 skill, it's because I enjoy the skill, not because I want it for bragging rights.

I get the 99s mostly for the use. Some i do because it's just good to have it high. But recently my aim is only to get to 90+ in skills and not 99. Earlier it was about getting 99, but I've realized it's overdoing it.

First off, I wouldnt be here if I didnt enjoy the game. :P

If I dont like a skill im training, i simply do it and eventually i'll start liking it.

Before I didnt like training combat at all, but after getting into it, i've started to like it.

I didnt like slayer, but its not as bad as I thought now that i've gotten into it.

I mean I see grinding skills, even if one doesn't enjoy the grinding, to be fairly acceptable in RS.

I'd never do it TOO much though. And I've never grinded a 99 I didn't enjoy.

Only grind if it the result of the grinding helps you enjoy other skills more.

The reasons i get 99's:

I enjoy training them. (i got 99 atk + cons because i like slayer)

I found a creative way to train them, that most other players don't think of (99 herblore + farming for me)

or because I think it's useful (99 summoning)

If I consider a skill a boring grind then I just stop training it when it no longer helps me with other things I enjoy (ex: I think prayer is boring but I'll train it because I love slayer)

I enjoyed every minute spent getting 99 construction, that includes playing sc, building and removing doors, and modeling my house!

The reason I enjoyed it so much is I never forced myself to do it. I once stayed at 91 construction for almost 3 weeks because I wanted to do something else. When I got back to construction, I trained 91-95 in a week and didn't get bored.

When I don't like something I'm doing, I just simply stop.

I don't get what some of ya say. If a skill is really enjoyable, i am sure that you would not stop doing it to do some other activity in the game. So if you take break it might mean that you got bored or tired of it...

All skills are good to have high level in, but you can't say that because skill A will be better if i have skill B, and that automatically means you will like skill B. You probably like it because it has a use, not because of the skill itself. Skills are gotten up to high level for the advantage and i really don't believe that people truly loves or enjoys many skills so much.

Why do i say that? Because if you like Herblore, you would continue doing Herblore and spend 80% of your time on it, and 20% on other skills/activities in the game.

I try to look for a player made guild for the specific skill I'm training. For example, Fletching. When I was training Fletching I went to the Yanille Guild in World 132 (not sure if it still exisits). There were a good few hundred training at the bank I found it more sociable and took my mind of the skill itself. I enjoyed Fletching generally because it was the first skill I trained to 99. Woodcutting was fun as it has always been one of the first skills to train as soon as I started playing RuneScape. I didn't enjoy Firemaking much as it requires too much attention which forced me to spend 12m on Magic logs just to speed up the process. Runecrafting is currently my most favourite and is probably the only skill that is useful all the way up to 99 (out of the 99s I have at the moment).

I'm looking forward to begin training combat related skills over the summer. I'm quite behind and the whole concept of combat is going to feel new to me as I haven't trained directly at it for years!

Well, there's no denying that all skills in runescape are a grind, so when you grind at a skill for so long, then there comes a time you wanna take a break and do something else right?

Well I've gotten 99 range, magic, and hp on two different accounts now. 99 range was fun and easy both times thanks to chinning. 99 magic took years the first time, I just did about 1 lvl per month on average and got a ton of XP through recreation. Second time I strung ammies while doing other things so it wasn't much of a chore. 99 HP was never directly trained.

Almost 99 cooking now too, I've enjoyed it a lot. Most of my time spent on RS lately has been AFK'ing skills while playing other games. Gotten 90 fletch, 90 wc, 80 fish, 98 cooking so far from AFK'ing.

I have no 99 skill, but I've gotten 91 slayer, which I guess takes longer than a few 99's. For me, it's about playing in a way that mostly keeps the fun in playing. There's times when you don't think about it as directly fun (compare it to watching a fun show on web-tv, playing a fps, joking around with friends.) But it's more something that you do because you like doing it, even if it's not fun. It's very much alike playing an instrument. When I sit down with my bass for practising on my homework, it's not because it's fun, but rather because I like it; it's a mindless task, with rewards at the end.

But I could never do much of a task I don't directly like. That's the reason I haven't gone for a 99 in a skill yet. I like putting up smaller goals that are more manageable and brings in variation into the game. I'd rather have five skills at level 80 than one skill at level 99.

I would say some of my first 99's i enjoyed the most because it was something so new to me (and most of rs). That was right after skillcapes came out so most people really didn't train their skills all the way to 99.

Cooking was very fun because i went from fishing guild from fishing guild trading my cooked sharks for raw, so i met a lot of really nice people. Eventually i went for 99 fishing (where i got the other 90% of my friends list). Again met a lot of great people and most of which i am still very close friends with. On top of that fishing paid for my other 99s, armor, and fuels just about everything else i do in this game. I love fishing so much i keep doing it and getting 99 in it again several times over in xp

Some of my other 99s that were not really enjoyable i did for other reasons. The end result of that 99 was worth the time (and pain). For example getting some of the combat 99s including prayer. They may not always have been fun to train, but now it makes things so much easier i am glad i invested that time. And well... honestly i only got 99 prayer for the cape

Most of what I've done in Runescape has been geared towards helping me reach 99 Slayer. Now that I'm about 1.1m experience from 99 slayer, everything I do afterwards will be geared towards helping me reach maxed combat. After that, who knows.

There are some skills that I hate training in normal ways, which is why I try to be creative with them, even if the experience isn't the best.

I don't always enjoy getting skills to ninety nine but I enjoy the gaining xp part of the game, if that makes any sense? I don't enjoy Agility for example but I am happy when I get the xp and level ups. Not for the recognition from other players but for the sense of achievement I get from it. :)

My 99 just kinda happened. Was just slaying and looked at my Hp exp and I was like, oh, I guess I'm getting untrimmed Hp. However, yes, I did enjoy every minute of getting it, because I enjoy combat. It's my favorite part of the game, and infact, I'm 7k from 99 Attack and Strength, and around 350k from 99 Defence. I'm not sure what will come after I max my melees.... Perhaps Range since it's 96, or maybe I'll just continue on with Slayer and see how high my Hp exp goes to. (18m at the moment).

99 HP, Attack, Strength, Defence, Summoning, Ranged, Herblore, Prayer, Agility, Magic, Slayer, Fletching, Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining, and Thieving.

Jagex'd out of my untrimmed hp cape on 6/14/2011.

I'm enjoying training slayer, it's not boring at all.

Fletching was the worst 99 and I grinded it because I stopped leisurely fletching at 95 and thought I might as well finish it off.

When I work towards something, as in a level which actually has a use, I like it. The levels in between, which have no use on their own, are pretty boring, and I do not enjoy them. That's why my hunter, rc and thieving have been pretty low for a long time.

Attack, strength, defence and constitution came slowly while training slayer, I somewhat liked range, magic has been pretty boring, but the useful levels make up for that. I'll probably get 99 fletching soon, but that's only because I wanted 90 smithing making addy tips, so the fletching xp is only a byproduct. I do not like fletching, but I don't want to lose any more money than I already do.
