tip it vs runehq why we are better

After the recent tragedy where tip it was down I had to sadly use runehq. I forgot why I didn't like it.

Tip it does a great job of keeping things logical and helpful while making things work well. I noticed several things that made me wish tip it was running again

1.white text on black background. This type of reading is very straining to the eyes and makes reading difficult.

2.too many ads, too many pictures. Although its awesome to have pictures, runehq had tons of huge pictures where they were not needed. This not only bogged down my computer, it made runescape run slower. Also scrolling through 5 full screenshots of a person standing 2 steps way from the last picture doesn't help me finish the quest.

3.Layout is the key. Out guides and links are done very well, I had trouble on runehq finding the right info and using it quickly.

So Ifound a nifty site that lets you examine the total memory on one webpage. I did the home pages of both tip it and runehq.

Total Size:120638 bytes<--tip it

Total Size:545800 bytes<--runehq

runehq is 4.5 times larger with no more to offer than tip it!

So thanks to everyone who concerns for every aspect of the players at large.

I like Tip.it more than Runehq for the community, but if I was a noob just joining a fan site. I would pick RuneHQ by far. Tip.it needs a graphical makeover. RuneHQ is so nice to look at.

While Rune HQ is 4.5X larger its also no slower than Tip.it without pop ups. I love Tip.it, but in terms of the site itself. Its lacking.

So... Tip.it trumps all?

Actually, back in the day I used to check RuneHQ for the street prices before there was the GE database.

Btw, when was the last time you went there...?

My problem with RuneHQ is because my computer runs pretty slowly while running Runescape, all the ads that pop up with every damn link I click on RHQ makes my computer damn near unusable for quite a while. Tip.It has far fewer ads and the ones that do come up don't talk to you. God damn, I hate those ads...

In all honest, RSWiki > all in terms of usability. Just pop in a search term and out comes a good answer.

Runehq/tip help sites are mostly useful for item database / calculator functions.

This. I don't actually use the main Tip.it site for anything other than calcs and the item database.

You forgot about the awesome (and modest!) staff.

Very true  Tip's staff is awesome.

Don't forget modest!

I prefer tip.it for the community, which is (overall) better from my experience. As for everything else, I mainly use tip.it because it is already in my favourites menu. Otherwise, I don't know which I would use.

I use the deflection skin because I like white text on black background. Go figure.

Likewise, I just think it looks nice.

RuneHq has gotten a great makeover, but it still sucks seeing as it's guides were updated last in like '06. I do use their calculators though. Tbh, I don't use anything on the tipit site besides the forums. RSWiki is just too convenient.

I love you guys too much to go anywhere else.

But to be honest, the reason I stuck here before I found the forums, was because of the looks, that old RuneHQ was terrible.

I think each fan site has its own grove, it's all about finding the one that fits yours. :)

I'm just glad Tip.It's is what it is. :)

But ya, a graphical update would be nice, just so so so so much time and skill involved.

I'm happy that our community doesn't go: "oh my gawd, we got platinum status first, we are soo much better than tip.it!!@! We finally defeated them!!@!"

I mainly use runehq for that nifty house planner, but for the rest I just use tip.it or runescape wiki.. (runescape wiki is boss when there are new updates).

Even as a crew member, I'll admit that rswiki has it's uses (and I use it!) for finding random information on pretty much any item. But when it comes to quest or activity guides, tip.it is the way to go.

To be fair tipit forums seems down ALOT and I mean ALOT and that has to count for something when discussing the site overall. Though I sure people work hard on fixing problems I presume some if not all the other fansites are down half the time. The adverts probably keep them working which is probably better than not working.

I prefer tipit guides but as for calcs I use SS for most things. Any other unique calcs I use runehq I think or other fansites. Another good thing about the guides is that the forum doesnt need to be online for them to work....

I cant judge tipits guides on if I was new to a skill but they are clear to grab quick information.

Otherwise wiki owns all else and probably the thing I use the most.

I wont talk about the forum in detail as thats a completely different story.

Yeah, Rune Wiki is the best. I only use Tip It's forums and calcs. The website... is just ugly. I'm sorry. Rune Wiki's is easier to read and follow because of the layout and tables etc.

Tip.it has better forums than anywhere else that I've seen, for obvious reasons. Tip.it has good guides and calculators, but for more specific information RSWiki is faster and more efficient. To be honest, that's not a bad thing.

As much as i love Tip.it's forums, some guides are a tad outdated, and some (like barrows was a few weeks ago) were just obsolete.

Imo Zybz has the best guides, and are updated very regulary.

RuneHQ is a joke btw.

You might be one of the unlucky people that is online regularly at 10am GMT which, some of you more astute and perceptive members might have noticed, when the Tip.It forums go down for maintenance each day. Usually this is only 5 minutes or so but it does happen rather often that the forums stay down for perhaps the full day. Yet, we have wonderful Techie admins that deal with this for us and get the forums back up asap :)

I do have to admit that I use RS Wikia sometimes because it is rather useful for random information. I never use it for 'guides' but if I want to check up something a bit obscure then I do often hop over there.

Other fansites I've never used, and probably never will. I'm sure that they're all brilliant in their own ways and we at Tip.It have a lot of respect for our fansite peers.

I'd also just like to remind people that if this thread is to stay alive then there's to be *no* site bashing of RuneHQ or anyone.

Choosing your favorite fan-site is like choosing your favorite ice-cream flavor. Except in this case theres no plain (major) fan-site hence - no vanilla flavor. They are all vibrant and have their excellent strong-points. Tip.it's my Rocky-road, just the one I like the best and prefer to stick to it more then others. :P

RHQ is a very good website, can't say I'm a frequent user of it but it has some great material which has helped me in the past. Zybez is very professional and sleek, with great information. Sals was great for questing back in the day. Runewiki is fantastic and has come such a long way, I don't even remember any mention of it a year ago, so they really have done an outstanding job to become one of the most useful resources from literally everything in RuneScape.

Tip.it is a great all rounder for me and the fantastic forums and community puts the cherry on top for me. :)

Tip.it has the greatest community of any fansite, hands down. That's why we are better, and that's why I love the site and the forums as well. Nothing can compare.
