Hope Devourer Guide by Obatrion from Romnitus (get under me).

One does not simply walk into Hope Devourer. The strategy isn't too obvious, so I thought I'd make this quick guide for new 101 dungeoneers. Firstly, magic is by far the best attack style to use on Hope. The team should be using fire surge. All but one player should have fire staves and runes, so take the time to make them before starting (but remember that you should always anticipate getting Hope Devourer as boss when doing f51+, so fire staves and at least some runes should be made when the team has downtime).

Hope Devourer has a special attack that severely hurts anyone using a protection prayer when he uses it. When he says "GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHURFTHAWUO$IBFAWUER," make sure your protection prayers are off. However, because of the way Hope is fought, protection prayers are unnecessary; the four mages should be using soul split or no prayer at all. The team will be taking constant damage and steady stat reduction throughout the fight, so either soul split or food is necessary.

I have no definitive proof, but so far the empirical evidence and testing suggests that Hope always targets the player doing the most damage. This is extremely important. If Hope gets near the player he's targeting, he will hit every player nearby with an AOE melee attack that does massive damage and knocks everyone backwards.

So here's the strategy: One person will be designated blocker. The blocker will run into the room and stand between Hope and the four mages (mages should come in just a split second after the blocker). It's possible for Hope to immediately attack the blocker when the team first runs in, so the mages should be quick to attack Hope and aggro him onto one of them. The blocker should be loaded with food as he/she will not be soul splitting. The blocker should be attacking with melee, but only very sparingly - it's possible to momentarily out-DPS one of the mages and get everyone killed as a result (I've done it and it hurts).

The four mages should be grouped very close together so that Hope cannot simply walk around the blocker. To illustrate this, I've created an amazing piece of art portraying the team fighting Hope. The mages are represented by Bruce Lee, Steven Seagal, Chuck Norris, and King Leonidas. The blocker is represented by Rambo. Hope Devourer is Mel Gibson in Braveheart (however, it should be noted that 'Mel Gibson' is the nickname for brutes on warped floors; I've been beaten and switched for this oversight):

Guide sounds about right, except Mel Gibson is a Brute, not a Behemoth.

Good guide, thats definitely the way to kill hope. One of the first teams I was with in the days after the safespot was removed used this method and it worked great...then I went to 148 and nobody would listen to me about this method, resulting in most everyone dying a couple times.

And I'd dg with y'all still but am laggy and would have a slow response time...unless you don't mind that too much I'll stick with overworld runescape for a little while.

Lol team wasted my time so I got bored and wasted theirs

but novite is awesome

and I found half of it in a denk with 4 novite warriors lol

That's not exactly an appropriate response for forgetting to regate.

That's an honest mistake though right? I thought DGS tolerated those.

Depends on the frequency of the mistake, and the nature of the keyer.

The keyer is allowed to stop a floor and lecture and or yell at a person for making a mistake, regardless of how frequent it is.

You're being serviced by a keyer, and this is a learning cc. You are expected to sit and take any lecture a keyer throws at you.

Forgetting to drop a gatestone even after a keyer has lectured you several times is ban worthy.

This is a learning cc. If you can't learn, you no longer have a place in DGS.

IMO that's where the cc fails the most. If it's an honest, one-time mistake, the keyer should have the patience not to yell at the offender. Of course, if the mistake is repeated, then yelling is understandable, but a learning cc is only as effective as the teachers, and good teachers are able to impart their knowledge without vulgarity and overreacting. I don't know about most people, but I learn best when someone can politely tell me what my mistake was and how to rectify it, rather than cuss me out.

Otherwise, fantastic cc.

Some people have different learning styles. I usually calmly explain the mistake and how to rectify it first, and then if they do it again I yell at them because obviously the first method was ineffective. If they do it again after that I avoid dunging with them in the future, but that doesn't happen often.

I think Grimy and I use 'yell' and 'explain' interchangeably when talking about how we teach people. ;) I start yelling the third time I have to ask someone to do something or I tell someone to do something. There are things like learning how to clear a room properly that are a little more forgivable, however (most people don't know how to clear rooms when there's a hex on the team, for example).

We're not just a "teaching" cc.

Our priority to breed high quality dg'ers trumps are service to teach the community how to DG.

This is why we allow keyers to be as vulgar as they want when lecturing newbies.

(They of course, have no obligation to always be vulgar, nor do we instruct them to do so, but the freedom to do so exists should they choose.)

Remember, if you're not helping us towards the ultimate goal of creating high quality dungeoneers, you're not needed.

And high quality dungeoneers tend to be ones that can take a little abuse.

That's why the raging exists. It does serve a purpose, whether or not the newbies like it.

and yes I do use the word yell kind of interchangeably.

But, we are VERY harsh on the newbies. We have a lot of newbies.

And very few teachers.

We got to weed them out someway.

And most keyers prefer to weed out the ones they don't enjoy teaching (IE the ones they have to yell at a lot).

I think perhaps the best analogy for this CC is:

Think of it like University - It's further education, you're there because you want to learn more on the very basics you should already know(117,148), you also have to be willing to cope with the influx of information and make the effort to absorb it all and perhaps put up with a few harsh realities on the way.

This is NOT like school - Where you are having an education forced upon you & have to/feel obliged to go (rapier, frosts) and where you don't necessarily care if you learn or not once you have finished.

The Lecturers are not paid, they are not here to hold your hand, most are reasonable, most are tolerant. However nearly all share the same goal of trying to exact their knowledge on others in the hope they will develop an avid interest in advanced Dungeoneering & want to, at some point help share in distributing knowledge to others.

If i'm teaching someone and they don't listen, that's a pretty big insult to the teacher who is taking the time to help you out - it's understandable that they would get annoyed.

Also when you've done a ton of dngs in a row and people keep making mistakes it's hard not to get a bit frustrated. Raging for 2 mins is better than the keyer deciding to blacklist you forever from their teams.

I also don't really keep track of who messes up, so I am probably not harsh enough to some.

I am not vulgar though, well except I say wtf or ffs.

And what is now really the problem: only 1 time a keyer kept flaming me (while I actually have proof I did what he asked:

me:hey has someone gated north east?

me:...

me:ok I run it.

keyer:come help now

me:ok

keyer:who gated north east?

rest:....

keyer:ruud, why didn't you gate north east, I told you to!

keyer:I can't trust you, you >insert random insults here<

Guess who's the single person on my ignore list atm?

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Pro amirite? I was tanking and he hit hard, and only had a few salves. Then when I came back, he was right by the door, and I didn't realize I was right under him (yet I was still attacking him?) and got KOed that way. Crappy dungeon indeed.

HOW TO FLESHSPOILER: THE GUIDE.

Mage prayer untill he pops his eyeball out and melees you, then switch to melee pray. He will only melee you after that unless he switches targets. Melee pray on the 2nd form.

wooo no deaths on flesh ever again

Skele trio has the most KO potential of any boss in dungeoneering (even more than shadowforger, I think). If you're targeted by both the mage and archer, you're pretty much screwed unless you get lucky (all three can hit at least 700 - I've been hit a little over 700 by the mage).
