Oh God...

When i first saw "Loyalty Points" i thought "Alright, maybe they're rewarding us for having our membership constantly active or something like that."

But when i saw what you guys are theorizing a impending doom came over me...

I never thought i would quit this game, but the day that some douche has a sheer advantage in bossing/PvP just because he forked over 30 bucks for an in-game item, is the day i kiss this game goodbye.

Praying that Jagex isn't that money hungry. But based on recent theories(The fact that they're not banning member's bots, ect) chances are looking grim.

EDIT:

[hide=more info]

From RuneScape's Facebook:

Mitchel : i hope this doesn't do a: Modern Warfare 3 where you have to pay "more" money to get more content that will be [cabbage]

RuneScape: ‎@Mitchell don't worry we won't make you pay anything extra. The loyalty program just takes into consideration how long you have been a member. It's nothing to do with micro-transactions, it's just some veteran benefits. ~Keildest

Well I guess that's something.

"In the portuguese BTS it gives more info : "Accumulating points is easy. You will receive Loyalty Points each month of membership. The amount you receive will increase over time, based on the period that you are an existing member. Players who accumulate points, but discontinue their accounts, receive fewer points the next time you sign. But do not worry, you can still build up again."

Just thought I'd drop by and answer a few questions and concerns.

Q. Are Loyalty Points like Micro Transactions and will Loyalty Points cost extra?

A. No, they're just a different currency if you like, given out to members each month to spend on the various cool rewards.

Q. Will free players get the aura slot?

A. The answer to this is in the name. It may appear on the interface for all players, but only members can equip and use the auras.

Q. Will I get Loyalty Points for any previous membership?

A. Unfortunately not. We recently released the Veteran Capes to say thanks to some of our longer standing users. The Loyalty Program looks forward and gives everyone a clean slate.

Q. Will I lose my points if stop being a member?

A. No, once you've earned the Loyalty Points the only way they'll disappear is if you exchange them for the rewards.

Q. What's the best way to earn Loyalty Points?

A. All members will get points. Concurrent members will accumulate points faster than someone who only subscribes for some of the time so it will take longer to unlock the different items and rewards.

Q. If I spot more questions on this that I think need answering what will you do?

A. Answer some of them! Some questions I may leave for the update itself as more details will be given then.

Q. Still here?

A. Just checking!

Hope that helps,

Mod Nexus.

THANK YOU GOD! *Wipes sweat off brow* Thought we almost lost RuneScape there...

Anywho, i just hope that i get a massive amount of points considering that i've been a constant member for say... Over four years now?

By the time you posted this, we've already established that it isn't a micro-transaction payment for something and that previous membership credits don't count.

Altho, to the OP or whoever's in charge of editing the first post, might I suggest you take the "more info" out of hide tags? Maybe put it in a quote tag "more info" thingy?

Yeah. My bad. Had a tl;dr moment.

But, with that aside... This upsets me:

Some loyalty program. I respect the gesture but that's basically a big 'screw you' to those who have already shown they were loyal before they even offered incentives.

I agree with Kimberly. The fact that this is basically a slap in the face to us who have had a constant subscription for 5+ years. Now with this, everyone is going to have the rewards because it's a small price to pay to get new rewards.

Sure there will be those few unfortunate people who can't have a monthly auto renew subscription, but everyone who can have a constant subscription is going to get the next best reward at the exact same time as the last person. Rendering any "cool" emotes/costumes not cool or special, because everyone will have them.... At the same time.

That's why i like my Zamorak Halo, it looks cool and is a sign that i love castle wars.

But is quickly losing status value as castle wars is becoming increasingly popular due to the fact that it has rewards now which are used outside of the game.

Despite the fact that i've gotten all my tickets before the updates, there is no way to distinguish that from the next person with a Halo above their head.

Meh, off topic. End rant.

Hexiled Razz. Player since March 8th, 2005.

Earning something from a game should be really to satisfy yourselves, not only to show off to others...So if someone else has it, cool. Don't be upset about it, that's just silly.

And I like the look of this, really:

loyalty_banner.jpg

That is, if we can obtain it...

And on another note, after all of the confusion yesterday I really don't see this as being a bad thing or Jagex playing the devil. Jagex is simply bring a company, one that operates to make profit, really. And this is a good way to do so without bringing about major problems... I say thumbs up.

That image kinda gives the impression that the golden/yellow stuff on the sword is the effect of one of these "auras" while without it, it would just be a regular sword.

Like a damage buffing aura. Or added special effect.

What if the rewards program was actually to "reward" the paying members. Since the membership cost is about to go up again - they're going to have to justify it even more.

There's no way for Jagex to look good - you can find fault with anything they ever do.

Give it away for free and ask people to pay what they think it's worth? It worked for Radiohead.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

I once met a man named Jesus at a Home Depot. Is this the Messiah returned at last?

And i once beat someone named Jesus in a chess game. Does that mean I'm smarter than the messiah?

Making the game less grindy would not only make the game more fun, but also reduce the digital immigrants. This month seems meh. Its like watching the same movie for the 9001'th time in a row.

Yeah, too bad that's never happening.

Nobody wants to point out how to make the game less grindy though, incidentally. :P

The people playing nowadays probably wouldn't have been able to stand all the grind in rsc and start of rs2 when absolutely everything was manual and the xp rates 3-10 times lower. There really isn't too much repetitive grind left in the game, if you actually think about it(waiting for fish to cook can't really be classed as grind).

Fun training? Rc, hunt, agil are all really grindy. Ba horns are a step in the right direction (even then, only if you like ba)

A better idea would be to just give quests 100k XP rewards (like wgs, prisoner of glouphrie, etc). That'd actually make them worth doing from an efficiency point.

Quests should definitely have much better exp rewards.

Nobody is forcing anyone to play, if you don't like the game due to its grind, don't play. Simple.

I like certain aspects of this game. Grind is not one of them. I usually just avoid the grind (meaning I avoid the vast majority of the game). IDK man I think you might be onto something here.

Jagex said they want to listen to their players. Now i don't play Runescape no longer, but i have interest in the Quests. And i might become member if something very cool is updated.

Point being:

People say game is to much of a grind. Telling to them to stop playing? What if they have? And does their voice not count?

Either way: i gurantee that if Runescape goes to the scale of grinding as Comp cape has shown us, it will become a hell of a crap game. And with introduction to "Loyalty rewards" where Jagex is screaming out "We want more money", i predict more people will stop their membership.

Fun is rather subjective to each person, but I'm all for quests giving more exp. Quests are the best part of the game.

Other then giving quests more rewards, I think the way to go is to make things feel like they aren't as much of a grind.

With Agility, this could work by having tons of different courses, maybe one every 2 levels or so at the higher levels and a few more in the lower levels.

It works pretty well for slayer. You kill 200 of one thing, then get a new thing. I think more slayer masters are needed though, mostly from 80-95 or something around there.
