Forget other MMO's just grasp of general language and marketing.

Loyalty Rewards = rewards for being loyal.

Rewards = gifts/status aka not paid something you bought.

Loyalty = being a continued customer and thus showing brand loyalty

Ergo loyalty rewards are gonna be free stoofs for being a loyal runescape customer.

It's a clever way to get people to buy membership. I am 99% sure that Jagex's plan with the "Loyalty" crap is about money. And i bet there will be players going around with these "auras" thinking "I am loyal".

Reality is, and with Dave chappelle voice:

NO b1tch your a addict!

Yeah loyalty schemes are all about brand loyalty and thus profit. Just saying loyalty scheme doesn't logically suggest microtransactions which cost extra money, as some people immediately jumped too, at all really.

I had more issue with the fact that they somehow tried to compare years of paying for members and being loyal to the game to people who have played 5 years+ on f2p and then got members just to get a goofy cape.

I realize that it might not be feasible, but it certainly is a bit insulting no matter how they explain it.

Meh non-members are just gonna have to cry a river.

They aint gonna give loyalty rewards out to people who aint earning them profit.

It'd be like your storecards giving u points when you dont shop there.

Sure f2pers may be loyal to the game, but they aren't a loyal customer as such since they don't pay; just a fact of life really you're not gonna get rewards for not earning the company revenue.

That sounds eerily like the same thing. >_>

Maybe it's not clear that I'm saying I've been paying for members for years (and still intend to) and I'm getting the shaft here.

Didn't like the idea of loyalty points when I first read it but it doesn't seem as bad now we've a rough idea what it's all about. It all depends on how good these auras are and what effect they'll have.

I also reckon some kind of compromise between the entire time you've had your account and the entire time you've had that account subscribed to members should be used to calculate how "loyal" you've been. I know the whole "Jagex are a buisness" spiel but it seems excluding people who've played your free version for x number of years (which is loyalty, in my book) from some (possibly) aesthetic rewards is a bit daft.

Quest seems maby like an rs version of the great white whale. Wonder if we will get swallowed and have to kill it from the inside if it is indeed as big as the wizards tower.

I'm looking forward to the d&d. It seems like a stepping stone to a tower defense game for rs. If they put one of those on rs i'll never play another online game again.

Witholding judgment on the loyalty things until they come out and we see just how long it will take to get them. I am a bit dissapointed that they won't be using previouse membership for rewards. It won't really be about loyalty then. It will just be people getting membership for the rewards.

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home from a party after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Aladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with seven men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos, Pac man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies who always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! if you had this childhood and loved it put this in your signature!

No-ones getting shafted.

Its rewarding loyalty from release day onwards.

Every starts level pegging.

Past loyalty is irrelevant.

It's like when a store has been around for ages and then launches a store card you don't get rewards for what has gone before. It rewards loyalty from then on.

You're comparing apples to oranges when you compare things like BestBuy rewards to online game subscriptions.

So that's your definition of no one getting the crappy end of the deal?

I understand and accept that there's probably no better way for them to do this, save giving those who have been paying for x-years prior to this the increased Loyalty Credit rate to start with. I can't understand how they can compare 'rewarding loyalty' to how one can obtain the veterans cape and not expect some of their older, longterm paying members who didn't need 'auras' to make them pay as a way of saying, "Well you're wrong!" And then users on this thread are saying that people like us aren't getting dirt in their eye.

Well, as you've just pointed out, there IS no better way for them to introduce loyalty points. Yeah, it kinda sucks for people who have paid for membership for the past 5 years straight, but otherwise you'd punish people who haven't paid it for 5 years straight because they had no incentive to. Only other way that's fair is not introducing these loyalty points.

Actually, I like that idea XD

That loyalty thing is just so people keep paying for membership even on months when they would otherwise not because they're not active enough to justify the price, or taking a break. It's all about money. Probably now some people are going to subscribe nonstop for the next few years regardless if they're actually logging in or not.

This, If i wanted to take a break but was close to some good 'loyal' item i'd just let my members carry on for a measly £3.50 a month.

^That means though, that paying for a month and not playing at all would have an advantage over not paying and not playing. Which, I'd say, is a way to sell the auras etc. I don't think the game should be influenced by the transactions around it.

Brb buying a grandmaster aura.

I can't remember a month with less content then this one. I'll be leaving for the last 2 weeks, so hopefully they release the interesting stuff before I head off.

Here I was looking forward to a month's worth of content when I got back, but I have a feeling this summer will be scarce on updates.

As long as this new reward thing doesn't affect stats and you don't have to pay money for it (besides mems) then I think i can live with it.
