Things That Make You Smile :)

Conversations with teachers. Like, not one-on-one, but when they just stray from what they're supposed to teach us and hold a conversation with the class. Usually, the ones that do that actually have interesting things to say.

Yeah I used to like that. I had an awesome English teacher once who had a toaster & kettle in his room, walked around school playing his guitar and was generally a right laugh. He was also the best English teacher around.

Nah the whole "ugh i'm so introverted you know how extroverts get energy from being AROUND people? well i get my energy for being ALONE" has been around for years, like mid 00s. it's not really victim

My math teacher is really old. This is her last year teaching, she'll be retiring after this year. We always ask her about what math was like when she was a kid, and how her grandkids are. Guaranteed to waste a few minutes.

I always loved my English teachers the most for this reason. Their insight and ideas were unique, most were excellent snarkers, and they usually provided the most detail and dedication into their work subject more than the others in my school who preformed apathetically.

Speaking of, the discussions and debating with instructors, almost all of my most enjoyable talks were with teachers that a majority of my class loathed for reasons concerning workload, personality, or the fact they didn't screw around. I almost always found their good highlights and found them to be my favorites while others still dismissed them based on the word of their friends. I don't know, but it might have been because their cynical viewpoints (which made sense given the terrible system my school had and how they put up with it for years), sense of humor, and way of doing things don't appeal or connect to the student base as a whole compared to how the most liked were basically the opposite.

Used to do this in high school math sometimes. Was always a lot of fun. Also in economics, my teacher always had interesting stuff to talk about.

My Social Studies teacher. He rambles on forever, sometimes about nothing, and he has stories about anything. To tell you how bad it can be, we walked in at the start of a period started talking about something not even close to being related, 5 minutes left he told us to pack up because we won't be doing any work.

I never did enjoy Social Studies teachers for this reason. English teachers for me were usually insightful, Math ones were snarky, and Science were straight but eccentric. Social Studies were the one teachers I disliked, and it didn't make it better my Freshman and Sophomore ones assumed I was their friend and felt the need to give me abhorrent nicknames and the other two were arrogant jerks that were liked by my class because they knew which buttons to press to please them. I even told one of them to do their job (outright in the class) and almost got a in-school suspension because of it. No surprise my friends still question why I disliked him since they could discuss games and media with them.

Of course, this is the things that make you smile thread so I'll leave it there.

It does make me smirk when I am listening to purely instrumental music as there is a sort of harmonious feel from it.

When one of your favourite bands releases their first song in years and within a couple of seconds you just know you're in for the best four minutes of your day. Doesn't happen very often, but when it does it's pretty damn special.

The good in other people. I was riding on the bus yesterday, and a guy gets on and asks the bus driver if a wallet had been found because he left his on the bus earlier. Bus driver gets on his phone and it turns out the wallet was turned in, so someone found it and handed it in.

He also invented a stop for a couple who we're going to the hospital because it was more convenient, which I though was nice.

Learning anything new in a subject that I'm very interested in. As my Chem teacher would say, "Thrill of Discovery!!!!"

... when I get bored, I reminisce the old times. I dig through some of the oldest threads I've made, and some of the oldest responses, and I read them - sometimes for hours at a time. I'm reminded of the good times that were had, and good times that were lost along the way. I like remembering how I made someone laugh, and perhaps how I made someone think, and just maybe even - made someone cry, in a good way.

It's really fascinating how people change - it's one of the few things that makes me smile. I'm sure others can dig through their archived RS screenshots and just remember their past too.

Ah, reminiscence.

Beating Nuzlocke.

I loved the slow birds the word gag. Callback jokes make me smile (if I've been following a show and actually get it).

If we are going to do family guy songs (that make you smile), this would be my pick.

Another Family Guy song that needs a mention, of course (though I can't find any decent videos), especially in the context of the episode:

Also, just realised that the version of the other song I posted was it looped about 10 times. Oops.

There is a guy who sells hot dogs and hamburgers on my university campus (the Dawg Father), and seeing him always makes me smile for some reason. He's a very boisterous person, always talking to someone, and I think he is in the same place every day. One of the constants of university life.

Does he make you an offer on hamburgers and hot dogs you can't refuse?

I've never actually bought anything from him or talked to him myself, mostly because I can't eat buns so I don't normally go in it for that sort of thing. I just like seeing him there for some reason, I think because he seems to be really happy with what he is doing, even though he obviously doesn't have a lot of money.

Same deal with a particular guy who at least used to play the saxaphone on a street corner. My sax teacher was actually his teacher as well, and he just did/does it for fun (I expect to see him again once its a bit warmer out). His name is Buba I think (or at least that's what my teacher calls him), and always does a nice jazz getup. White suit, hat and sunglasses, and you can tell from listening to him that he just loves what he's doing (I think he's retired).

Happy people make me happy.

I always find myself smiling when a girl gets that kinda scratchy voice from being sick or something and they sound like an old man.

And secretly, I think it is pretty darn cute (of course, it depends on the girl who has it).

When you finally finish writing something with a solid ending. (Not like school essays)

I like how my voice turns into an old-man voice, simply over time when I haven't speaken for some time. I have a really low, smooth bass but then that small crackle within... Makes me feel, I don't know, like a gentleman?

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Etc, etc

Finding a piece of artwork decently good enough to inspire you to create something. Another one getting a hold of a trivia book that contains hundreds of useless, but new, information bits. Both of those always guarantee a slight smirk out of me.
