20-Nov-2012 - Evolution of Combat: Now Live!

There's still a glitch with dropping items with hotkeys. Both fletched bows and superheated gold bars aren't recognized as droppable after a chat action, but another chat action fixes the problem. I reported it two weeks ago as well (with the bows anyway, not the gold).

Dropping items by keeping a key pressed will very quickly fill your chatbox with messages when you try to drop items you don't have.

You can't use f keys while chatting.

Opening an interface which mimizes the action bar defaults to chat, which is very annoying when you're trying to use f keys as well, because you have to press enter twice to get back to abilities/f keys etc.

The full inventory message while mining also prevents ability use, whereas the full inventory message for woodcutting doesn't.

It isn't possible to select the secondary option of an item (e.g. drop instead of light) to be keyed to a hotkey.

Overall, a lot of fixes are needed.

People telling you that you are over-reacting about a stupid, absolutely horrible shield by any standards does not mean they're brainwashed. If buying fire runes for casting spells has "utterly destroyed you" then you obviously weren't all that far from quitting anyway. You have zero need for the anti-dragon shield in the eoc as a f2per and it's easy as all hell to safespot things even in f2p.

My personal advice to you would be to learn how to safespot, learn how to use stun/binds, and recycle the time spent in writing condescending sign offs into learning how to play the game better than your average fresh-off-the-tutorial newbie. The help and advice board is filled to the brim with people who will give you the advice and resources to do so.

So it totally destroys you that you can't sue a godawefull shield alongside a 2H weapon? Hah, thats cute. Either use a Wand with your pweacious Anti Dragon shield (whcih is completely and totally inferior to any other shield in F2P now, particulary Batwing shield) or you use a Fire staff, which also has boosted damage and all that new jazz.

And Runecrafter Robes have been surpassed by relatively cheap Batwing Robes, that onyl require level 50 def and magic and provide better boosts comparetively to runecrafter robes before EoC.

So... what's exactly the problem here?

To add; shouldn't the cost of now not having to buy combat runes outweigh the fact that you now have to buy fire runes if you really want to wear an anti-dragonfire shield with a wand?

Yes, by mile and a half.

Oh well, i'm Stuck trying to get a Master Wand by myself. Not that hard. but the graveyard is so goddamn hard without bones to peaches...

And now I hit all 3 of you with the big problem: Those new wands don't give infinite of any runes, do they? I happen to need the Fire Staff because I stopped crafting Fire Runes a long time ago, due to need for the extra slot in my pack for other things. Also, I've taken notice of my RuneCrafter Robes being rendered useless. So, loss of RC'er Robes, plus loss of A-D Shield, plus loss of being able to not have to use up yet one more inventory slot for Runes because I would have to give up my Fire Staff to have any shield at all, plus loss of extra bank slots to take on new equipment?

Yeah, I think that totally destroys me. Seeing as Lady Deathknell's Combat Academy Tutorial is totally bugged so I can't complete it, and therefore I'm blocked from learning the new combat system. Remember that fictional article that Alg wrote recently? I think Jagex just did exactly that to me. Heck, I might as well get lost... What's that famous phrase? Oh right... "Good fight"... because if I was going to learn, I needed the tutorial, just like when I began playing this blasted bloodsucker of an awful game. <_<

Honestly, I wonder what my life would be like right now if I had never touched RuneScape, and never had succumbed to bad things like peer pressure... -.-

~Mr. D. V. "Feeling sick to their stomach for ever touching RuneScape..." Devnull

Go to the GE. Buy some runes. OMG IT'S AMAZING NO NEED FOR A FIRE STAFF.

(p.s.: The rest of you make me feel like Jagex has brainwashed you.)

I lost it here. 10/10.

@ Anyone disrespecting RuneCrafter Robes -- What makes me mad, other than Jagex making them unusable in combat, is the fact that I spent time earning them! Now all the use they had isn't there anymore, and they're locking up slots, but destroying them means I wasted 4000 Great Orb Project RC Guild Tokens... Does anyone get why I feel crushed?

Sorry, but I'm starting to think you're just a really clever troll because I can't believe anyone would be serious about such trivial things.

The whole game has changed as a result of this update, items that were useful before are no longer useful, and vice versa. It's ridiculous to write off an update because a single set of items has had their use minimized. I honestly get why you're crushed; I have quite a few non-tradeable items that are no longer useful and tradeable items that I've lost money on. But that's no reason to quit the game. If you don't enjoy the new combat system, then that's a reason to quit. If you're going to quit because an item has become obsolete, then you're playing the game for the wrong reasons.

Missing the point implies you made one, yes? The point of all your posts thus-far has been easily solved issues regarding the EoC. The only valid concern I heard you make were about the GoP robes. F2P bank space is an absolute luxury and I can understand why you would be upset -- the problem is you have flipped back on your stance twice now in order to dodge/ignore any criticism of your argument levied at you. Make a suggestion that GoP robes get rebalanced and wait like everyone else, but don't use it as your excuse to cry wolf and then bawl your eyes out when you get a spanking.

I never really liked the idea of EoC and after playing a few days of the Beta when it first came out I really hoped it'd be scrapped or at least not released until after Christmas time.

So now, with it released, I'm becoming more and more confused when things are being explained to me now, tiers, gear, abilities whatever. It's just like - WHAT?? Maybe I'm just slow on the uptake with this, or just adverse to change (I am kinda stubborn and entrenched in my ways). Octarine has even gotten to the point of not bothering to even try to explain anything to me any more and keeps trying to usher me towards the tutorial. I've now no idea what a good slayer set up is for a general melee task, and can't gear as normal with Rapier + Ddef sorting everything out as it'll be awful DPS. Apparently it's something to do with not being on the same tier or whatever.

The combat also seems to be a lot more boring and annoying to me. Whereas some people (I forget who, who made that fantastic and elaborate post about the stunning an enemy for 6 seconds, jumping back blah blah blah) find EoC riveting with the amount of cool "cinematic" combinations you can create... I find it just as easy to ask people what the best binds to the action bar are, and then once in combat it's just essentially:

Click Enemy

Face -> Keyboard

Roll around

Glance up to see if enemy is dead

Rinse and repeat.

Therefore with that in mind EoC was always going to turn my RSing into EoS - Era of Skilling - as I sincerely hated the combat, but even that is looking rather suspect. Hell, the skilling interfaces - ie. When making staves it gives you all sorts of info taking up your screen room - are so in your face that it makes me positively claustrophobic. I just end up wanting to punch my screen and go sit in an open space breathing in and out of a brown paper bag. Or better yet, punch the JMod responsible for such an atrocious set up.

Anyways, I've had my 5 minute rant about this now... Now to get back to trying to understand how on earth to make the action bar more skilling orientated...

I needed a good laugh today, thanks m8

It appears that poor Dev has spent many hours on Runescape grinding out the same things over and over again, to the point that this has surpassed enjoyment, and become somewhat therapeutic. It is a pity that, in his current mental state, he is incapable of adapting to the changes that Jagex have provided F2P, through the provision of better armour and weapons.

The shattering of an illusion of enjoyment is hard to bear, and I wish Dev the best of luck in overcoming this abhorrent situation.

They have significantly buffed up the Penance Healers, so now it takes forever to kill them, and it requires the combined efforts of two healers, and collectors to use eggs as well. Any word on what's the deal with that? A lot of people have gotten irrititated with that and left BA(which was pretty empty to begin with). Unfortunately for me, I was there the eve of the EOC release trying to fill my horn, the next morning post-update it was awful and now I can't find any teams during most of the day. It sucks. They buffed them up particularly without increasing the rewards proportionally. If they have made any posts about it, it'd be nice if someone can re-post them here.

they were actually told about this issue but apparently they didn't have enough time to fix it

the healers weren't actually buffed, it's just that the system didn't adjust the poison damage properly

I see, so then I take it that this will be fixed sometime in the near future?

SHOULD and WILL are two different things.

Assuming they care about Barbarian Assault in the slightest, they will have to do something about it. I am not exaggerating at all when I say this, but they have actually killed BA; the update, or rather this glitch, has driven everyone off the official world and there's no on there any more. A quick look on the RSOF should confirm this if you have any doubts. Furthermore, given that this was completely unintentional on their part, I don't know why they wouldn't fix it?

It baffles me that people still live by the "don't fix what isn't broken" idea.

Don't you mean why people don't live by this??

I don't know, I know a lot of guys in my industry that have made entire careers out of doing that. ;)

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...
