I Do Say, Braces Are Quite Annoying.

Featured Replies

Well, I just got brand-spanking new braces(yay...) Wednesday, and I'm not enjoying them at all. In fact, one of the brackets in the back is poking my mouth and it is constantly poking me.

The set I got from my orthodontist doesn't have any colors or anything, which means my set is a little easier to clean I think. They hurt a whole lot less from what my brother told me too :D

The only drawback thing I think there is besides the pokey thing is that I cant eat ribs. For two years. Two whole flippin' years..*grumbles under breath*

Ugh. I got them Thursday. They suck! I have to eat really soft things, nothing hard. It really hurts my teeth. One of the brackets broke off the first day lol. Didn't they give you wax to put on your brackets if they hurt? They gave me that stuff.

Hmmm.. the kit they gave me might have the wax in there, what does it look like?

Braces are only worth it if you're willing to stick with it. In the long run, it's worth it though. It took five years, but my teeth have been corrected up to the point where the only way to straighten them out further would be with surgery. The first two weeks after insertion/change of braces can be painful though, but you'll have to live with it.

I have had braces for 3 years now...I hate them.

In a few weeks your gum will start to swell.

Did you think the braces would be cool before you had them? [-X

Never had braces, perfect teeth FTW! But braces look cool, i never think they look bad, same with glasses.

wait, how old are you? the younger you get braces, the better, as your teeth can shift more easily, so you have them on for a shorter amount of time

once you get your braces off, you get retainers. wear them faithfully. its worth it

I have braces and am supposed to get them off in December. Eventually you forget about them completely, and they pretty much become part of your teeth  .

My orthodontist got mad at me last time because I had a bunch of things broken and I did'nt call in. So make sure that if you break something call your orthodontist!

Theres nothing worse than an angry Orthodontist

Lol, you know what's wierd? Some people get them now, even if they have the option, they choose to get them for aesthetic reasons. Don't ask me why, I'm just the messenger. Sounds like a huge pain to me; no starburst. [-X

Until the day you die =\

That's the only thing that bothers me about retainers, you have to wear them every night

Does anyone have any experience with permanent retainers? Are they worth getting?

I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

Since I had a rare chance of not having two of my front teeth grow in my lower jaw, the dentist asked me if I wanted braces so I can have the teeth I have set up, catch is that I'll have to wear false teeth to fill in the gap.

False teeth + years of braces = [bleep] no.

I lived on soup and noodles for weeks at a time when I had braces on...

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

My first day I was just terrified at the thought of having them on for three years since they were hurting and felt so weird. Don't worry at all though. Like everything, you get used to them. They only hurt when you get them changed/modified every so often, and other than that you don't notice them after awhile and just get used to them.

My advice to you is to avoid sticky candy and gum. While I had braces on I actually had no candy ever (that's a whole other story, out of my own will) so I had them on for a shorter time than he told me I'd need them. I've heard peopel who eat a lot of chewy candy type things that those mess your braces up and make you need to have em awhile longer. So stay away from candy - from my experiences soda's ok, just avoid overly hard candy or chewy candy.

I've got a permanent retainer on the lower teeth, its nice because it keeps the teeth straight without any hassle and it really isn't irritating. Basically the one I have is likea little wire i guess glued onto the back of the teeth. It's really not a big deal.

Hey, wear your retainer and be nice to your braces and you'll have nice pretty teeth in high school, because crooked teeth are definitely NOT HOT. Well, unless theres something to make up for it. Annnnyways, before this gets too far...

Just another public service announcement.

Runesmithie, I'd ask for the clear plasticy kind of retainer - that's what I use. I wear it during the night, and never had to wear them in public or anything. :P

Plus plastic or whatever material they use is a lot nicer than metal. You just have to keep it clean.

Thanks for the....encouragement guys :P I'm only 12 so I guess my teeth will be easier to move, which means less braces time right? :P

I'm also going to stay away from the candy, which isn't really that big of a deal, I never really ate that much candy. But the paper I got from my orthodontist said absolutely no soda, because the carbonation in it will wear away the cement that hold my braces to my teeth. Is that true? Oh and when I get my braces off, I'm also getting the clear plastic-ey retainers, no more metal fo meh after braces. :D

I have clear plasticy ones with the metal wires in them to hold the parts together and I've 'graduated' to where I only have to wear them at night... however, I always frieking forget! And they taste like *** no matter how much I wash them =\

My friend got his braces taken off about a couple of weeks ago (I think he had them for 2 or 3 years) and when he got his retainer we laughed at him because it was halarious when he tried to say anything with an 's' in it.

I'm twelve too. =P But anyways, I didn't hear anything about soda.....Of course, wasn't really paying attention.

Never had braces. I got nice, straight teeth. Though I have a small gap between my front two teeth, I think they'll grow together in time. I don't want braces at all.
