The recent cheating that occurred and the abuse of an exploit has been dealt with very seriously. We have excellent systems in place to catch and detect players who abuse bugs and have taken appropriate measures.

 

We have now banned 68 accounts PERMANENTLY, with another 48 receiving temporary bans. There are a further 117 accounts which have been temporarily banned while undergoing further investigation. These will be dealt with very shortly.

 

To give you some idea of the players involved, here are the ten highest-level players banned so far (based on total skill level):

 

* 2,376 total level (520 days of in-game time)

* 2,308 total level (477 days of in-game time)

* 2,210 total level (365 days of in-game time)

* 2,179 total level (1,004 days of in-game time)

* 2,131 total level (394 days of in-game time)

* 2,105 total level (202 days of in-game time)

* 2,102 total level (274 days of in-game time)

* 2,096 total level (448 days of in-game time)

* 2,022 total level (337 days of in-game time)

* 2,021 total level (275 days of in-game time)

 

Wed like to remind everyone that using macros and abusing bugs is NOT tolerated under any circumstances, and we will ban ANY accounts that have been cheating.

1004 days and 2179 ttl. damn. thats what I call inefficient.

I was looking down the list and saw the maxed out player and i was like DAMN :shock:

 

then looked further down and saw the guy with 1004 days and i was like DAMMNNNNN :ohnoes:

 

but then if you think about it, if you play that much, jagex just saved their lives, so all in all, good job :thumbsup:

Well so long as wrong-doer's get their punishments and the glitch is fixed, I'm happy.

These ten players just lost a year of their life.

Indeed it is.

 

Personally I find it a bit disheartening only that few amount of accounts have been banned. And temporary bans imo are not enough. People need to be taught a lesson, not let off the leash like that.

 

Although seeing that Jagex do not care who you are when they do the bans is a good sign.

It is nice to have Jagex publicize one of these, it has been a while since they made it clear what was going on to punish these glitchers. Although I am surprised to see that these are the top 10 (I was expected a few more higher players), it is nice for them to have given us numbers. The most shocking one as most people will probably find is Player #4 with a huge 1004 days of play time, this is over 3 years ingame, assuming they played regularily that is still atleast a 6/7 year old account with over 24,000 hours of in-game play, was it really worth it to lose your account over a few million gp in bolts that were unsellable? I know personally even though I have quit my main I would not want it to be banned with the 275 days of play time I have on it (1/4 of what this other player had).

I feel like they waited to finally ban all of these people until they had a sufficient amount to make an 'example of them'. Could be wrong though. :D It just seems highly unlikely that it took them this long to realize things.

I agree. You would expect people who have played the game for that long to know not to cheat, but it's their fault, so good riddance of the cheaters.

You abuse it you lose it.

 

I too was expecting much higher numbers, not only that, but why issue temporary bans? That I don't quite understand. Especially if they've made quite a bit of money from it - that money will still be there when they return.

I expect that Jagex are employing the same tactic as with the penguin hunting glitch. I expect that quite a few people tried to glitch just to test it, but realised the danger they put their accounts in, thus stopped. Though, a lot of people who used the glitch used it to make lots of money.

Maxed out idiot and over 1k days for other guy.

 

This is entertaining punishment. The 2nd guy is the only one nearish my level and I can so laugh at his pain on seeing that many hours and ban.

 

However there doesnt seem to be very many bans/semi's overall.

 

Wonder how many of them are proud and wanted to go out with a 'bang' lol. Yeh right. :rolleyes: Year(s) ban is better than a total ban imo. Enough time to feel the pinch and probably come back a new person.

A year would be acceptable. I think anything shorter than 6 months is a travesty. That is no deterrent to other people who may abuse bugs in the future.

1000 days and 2179 total? Damn, I'm 2190 total and not even at the 200 day mark yet. Wonder what his total exp / bank looked like. Anyway he just flushed 3 years of his life down the toilet, should have known better than to abuse a bug. Hell myself I've been tempted lately to use my C++ knowledge to make myself an autoclicker (with randomized intervals) but I won't even do that even though I'm almost positive they couldn't detect it. Just because I try to have respect for the rules.
