The idea behind extensions is that you get ones which are useful for you - it's different for everyone. I'd recommend against Fasterfox, in favour of tweaking Firefox's preferences yourself - see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Category:Tweaking_preferences Flashblock is great for blocking annoying flash ads, but just click when you want to see them, and you can whitelist sites. Webmailcompose is cool if you're a webmail user (clicking mailto: links opens up webmail instead of your default mail app. BBCodeXtra is great for using these forums or inserting html intoy uor blog. Delicious delicacies is a must have for a laugh. I have plenty of others but they're for more specific groups of users.

Neither Firefox nor Opera blocks banner ads by default. Firefox's great extensions will of course allow you to do almost everything you could dream of. Adblock is an extension which allows you to filter out items, with support for wildcards and regular expressions - although by default it doesn't filter anything, you have to add them manually. Adblock Filterset.G Updater automatically maintains a list of items to block, and with frequent updates you'll be blocking almost all ads on the net. (so you need both of them together btw.) Please, before you install adblock, think of the webmasters that run the websites you visit. Take tip.it for example - it costs hundreds of dollars a month to pay for the servers and bandwidth, and without advertising revenue & donations, they're paying for it out of their own pocket. If you really want to block ads, you should consider donating to the site. An even better solution (that I employ) is to block flash advertisements. Flash are the worst ones - they use loads of CPU, they have sound, they blink and move and are a right pain. So I use Flashblock to block all flash by default. When you want to view a flash object, just click it. You can of course whitelist sites which you visit frequently which employ flash in their design.

new browser-firefox, opera or explorer 7beta3 ? need advice!
Vape replied to tyrant_iv's topic in Tech and Computers
Decide for yourself? I'm all for Firefox, but Opera is a quality browser too. I'd recommend not going with IE7 as it's still in beta, which equals possible dataloss, crashes, etc. And considering Microsoft's history, odds are it will be full of holes and they'll take months to patch them. Great things about Firefox: [*:2csxe6ah]Free as in beer [*:2csxe6ah]Free as in speech [*:2csxe6ah]Extensions [*:2csxe6ah]Themes [*:2csxe6ah]Customisability [*:2csxe6ah]Fast [*:2csxe6ah]Lean [*:2csxe6ah]Great community (eg. if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to help you or tell you where you might be able to find help :)) [*:2csxe6ah]Aliens prefer firefox [*:2csxe6ah]And much more \ -

Actually Chatzilla does IIRC :-$ -
If you perhaps took 3 seconds of your time to read a little, you'd know, wouldn't you?

Well, lazyness is the main reason, but phpbb3 is the excuse I like to use ;)

I think it's an excellent idea. However, with Olympus (phpbb3) coming out soonish-maybe it's not really in one's best interest to make an entire theme for phpbb2 now.

How2PK's question has been answered in another forum, but if anyone else should experience this problem, please use google, which will lead you to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_in_use ;)

It won't search for extremely common words or very short words, because they appear to often and aren't of value in search results.

You can also right click on a file, select "open with" and then select from a list of programs, and then check the box "always use this program to open this type of file" or something like that.

Always ought to keep a backup of your images on your own PC.

Rick, Merc, I have to disagree with you here. If I'm a silly user and set my timezone to be correct right now, then after October the clocks go forward (in the southern hemisphere at least) and thus when it is 10am, the forum.tip.it frontpage will say "the time now is 9am" or something similar.. but because I'm a silly user I don't read that.. I go to the events board and see that "hello, there's a party on today.. and a gal posted at 8:30am that the party was an hour from that post... so that means that it'll be at 9:30.. so seeing as the time now is 10, I've probably missed it..." wheras in actual fact the gal only posted it half an hour ago, and it's still half an hour until the party. So.. users need to know about how to manage their timezone. I've not looked with any great detail into any daylight savings mods, but I daresay there's probably one out there to suit our needs. Users will still not understand how to use it or make mistakes or never configure it or whatever... I've not had an extensive look at phpbb3, (and the test site is down atm) but I daresay it's probably got improved daylight savings time capabilities :) In any case, the easiest solution for events is just to link to timeanddate.com

I wonder if there's any page caching mods for phpbb2 :-? We can always just wait around until phpbb3, which I'm guessing (although I don't know) will be faster :) -
Why would you want to buy posts? Cash mods = bloat IMHO. Also, these forums use Phpbb, not invision.

I used to think you could just keep going to the bank and they'd keep giving you free money :D

Is it perhaps doing the standard subsilver thing where the css is in the overall_header.tpl instead of linking to the external css file. Link us to your site and we'll have a look at it yeah?
