2nd January 2009 - Behind the Scenes 2009 // January
Sounds like a lot of spin. Call me a cynic, but I read "update year" as "not that much new content" year. Since this year will likely coincide with the release of Mechscape, RS could quickly look a little old-newsish if Jagex doesn't appear to be focusing its efforts. With that being said, it may not be that bad of a thing to slow content rollout. While it's always fun to see new things to kill or chase or whatever, I think that the game is PACKED with good stuff to do and stressing quality over quantity could be a good strategy for a year's operation. I don't think we'll see any new skills (good, don't need any), and am not sure we'll see any new major map rollouts in terms of new territory. Eastern Lands should probably hit the front page, since it's been teased to hell.

Question about mining granite
I don't think there are any quests needed, but if you do "Dealing with Scarabites" it makes things a lot easier. Also, it is P2P strictly. I haven't gotten 50k, but it's pretty solid, at about 35-40k/hour.

:( What did I do :(
From a third party perspective, I'm glad you did it. Macroers are by and large terrible for the game, and one less macroer benefits all of us. Personally, I refuse to credit OR condemn you. Only you really know your actions. If you did this on a moral highground because it was the right thing to do, you are a more pious person than most and should be commended. If you did this to avoid letting a friend surpass you on a chase to some goal in skills, gold, etc, then I think you acted out of malice. You should have warned them once. I don't want to hear anything of this "no-snitch" code, either. If you are macroing, I hope you get caught and reported. Plain and simple. People in the end need to be held accountable for their actions, and a lack of accountability is the sort of thing that has made our society weaker as a whole.

Looking for Runescape friends
I've always found the best way to make friends is to simply talk to the people you see. They're on at the same time as you, doing similar stuff to what you're doing, so you've already got common ground.

Underrated Items
Holy Wrench. When you're doing a task that requires constant prayer, you're simply crazy -not- to bring one. The additional +1 prayer / sip means that if you're a level 80 prayer player (which is quite high), you're getting one free sip per 7 prayer pots. On a standard Metal Dragon trip, that means you're getting 2-3 sips for free. if you have -lower- prayer, it's even more effective. If you have level 60 prayer, then you effectively get one free sip per 5 prayer pots, and a full four-dose prayer pot per trip. So you can waste a free pot if you like, but me... I'll take the freebie!

Slayer; what's next?
I agree with topic starter. I think this will be a level 95 slayer monster, and to have some mage based weapon is the next logical progression. Of course, it may be days, weeks, month, or years before that is released. I would imagine Jagex is reluctant to cap out slayer any time soon.

What you want your Rs Character to achieve in the next year!
I'd like to get all skills to 85, get 99 HP, and get all melees to 94-95. Additionally, I'd like 95 slayer, and 2100+ total. Since 2100 should be fairly easy, I may shoot for 2150 by year end.

Your top 5 monsters. [LOCK PLEASE]
Do I have to pick just 5? 1. Dark Beasts - These guys are incredible. They're allergic to whips, so I can bury them, and they are fantastic experience sources. Their non-Dark Bow drops are solid, although I've never gotten a Bow. 2. Abyssal Demons - Wonderful, although incredibly stingy with whips. I'm working on my fourth 150+ task with no whip. Overall they've only dropped 2 / 3000 abbies for me, but their rune and pure essence drops more than make up for it. 3. Metal Dragons (Iron/Steel/Mithril) - I like getting all geared up for the Iron and Steel Trips, and Mith are fun even though I'm horrible at them. I've gotten a few pairs of D Skirts and D legs in my travels to Brimhaven, so they will always have a special place in my heart. 4. Blue Dragons - I adore Blue Dragons. They drop clues, some rune junk, and consistent 3.5K + / kill. To make things better, they also are only a hop and a skip from Falador. 5. Greater Demons - They were fantastic to range when I was going for 99. Imagine my glee when I found out how easy they are to melee as well! Kurasks are an honorable mention, I love them too.

Best Slayer master for Cannon
Any time you're thinking range, consider Sumona. I went to 99 range / 90 slayer with her, and she's lovely.
-
Getting 2k total
Looking harder, I'd suggest 8 agility and 10 hunter levels. Simple as that. :-)
-
Getting 2k total
You're already very well on your way; just bring up your lowest skills to 80 and you'll cruise by.

Tip.it Times Presents: What's your final goal in Runescape?
The community didn't change -at all- in the year plus between posts. Interestingly, 90% of people before the stagnation of the topic ignored the "Life is a Journey, not a destination" message of the actual article. They all posted their own personal goals, as if this were a poll topic. Then after the topic is reignited, there are a few thoughtful posts dotted amongst a sea of "OMG I WANT MOAR 99S!!1". My wish for 2009 is to have people read the thread before posting. I think I have the same chance of getting that as getting Kate Beckinsale, promotion to CEO, or a Unicorn.

Merry Christmas Tip.it!
Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

What are you hoping for in 2009?
I just want the Jagex company to make smart decisions, as they seemed to do in 2008. Don't roll out a skill just for the sake of something new. Make sure quests make sense. Last year was great, let's build on that.

36mill to put into Slayer... I need you
I'm personally a cheapskate that avoids stuff like the DFS, Guthans, etc. If the player wants to dump 36M in, he can certainly speed up leveling and get to the goal more quickly. Remember, he wanted most effective, not best value.
-
How Much is Your Account Worth to You?
My account is certainly worth more to me than it is worth to anyone else. I'm sure no one would put up what I would want in return, because I value the fun much more than the replacement value.

36mill to put into Slayer... I need you
Barrows gear is terrific value right now. I'd recommend buying Guthans at a bargain price of 4-5 million, and karil's for those mage-based attackers (like Aberrants, Bloodveld, etc.). Whip is a must. Defender and Karamja gloves are "free", taking only time (and minimal resources) to acquire. Get them both. Sara sword is a great weapon. Cannon is a good time saver. Broad-tipped bolts are fantastic if you dig ranging. Since you have the cash, sharks are a cash-eater.

how YOU slay the TD's?
Very good question, and though I've done WGS I haven't gone back to fight these guys. I think this should be moved to Help and Advice, since you'll get more constructive input there.

Holiday Season Tips
i dont think arhein is selling seaweed anymore.. or the charter ship people. just checked. He -absolutely- is. You just need to talk to him, not select trade. I do it every day!

Holiday Season Tips
Lady Ninane narc'd on a ton of my favorites! What a list! A few more: [*:3sbrbuss]You should not be paying for glass, unless you're going for like 99 herblore. You can get 80 seaweed and 64 sand/day by simply buying from Arhein on the Catherby docks, and getting Bert in Yanille to get you sand.[*:3sbrbuss]Keep your change! I can't tell you how often I see people not picking up gold, but I routinely get 10-15k / slayer assignment. If youd leave an inventory space for a ranarr weed, then you should absolutely be willing to pick up gold.[*:3sbrbuss]The Falador Tower Shield is fantastic at Dark Beasts. Best pray bonus AND a free 3 dose pray pot worth of prayer charge per day![*:3sbrbuss]You can't sell Simon templeton noted gold statues, so be sure to visit him while plundering before restocking food. Don't learn the hard way like I did![*:3sbrbuss]Penguins are amazing experience. If you're not doing them every week, you're nuts![*:3sbrbuss]Always use a summon, for just about everything. Everyone knows about bunyips, stallions, and granite lobsters, but simple accumulating monsters are outrageously valuable. If you're not summoning, you're wasting!

Dragonkin: After the Rise of Lucien
"Red Herring" is a phrase which refers to an item or piece of information used to throw an investigation off course. It comes from the mid 1800s (think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock) when bloodhounds were used to track criminals. Because red herring are fish with an extraordinarily strong scent, a criminal may throw one down a divergent path to set the hounds off course.

Should the logout timer be removed?
I would be ok with removing either randoms -OR- the logout timer, but not both. If you were to take both, you're pulling away the spirit of the game - to be played, and not merely monitored. If there were no logout timer or randoms, we would all become autoers to an extent.

The Resurrection of Agility
To Pantim: that's part of the whole point; a reason or reward for those that invest the time to train agility. No. You can just control the incremental increase in speed. Balance is key. The avatar doesn't have to run 200 miles/hour, but you can create a significant improvement. Lag is more due to high levels of detail, high total numbers of people, and the limitations of the server / ISP / computer. Higher speed people shouldn't make an outrageous impact so long as the speed is not completely out of line with reality.
