I'll answer all three at once, since the answer is the same: No item, especially one as useless and overhyped as a p-hat, is worth a friendship (real or virtual) to me. While I might use the hat for a specific purpose (Having fun at the Party Room or their House), I would promptly give it back when I was done.

Having actually been in this situation, I can honestly say, no, I'd keep it. But only if it's stuff I either need or is relatively inexpensive or easy to get. Rune items and the more common TT or dragon items I'd keep; better stuff (p-hats/rares or newer Dragon stuff/an Abby whip) I'd at least make a serious attempt to give back. Unless it seemed to me like they were cheating, then all bets are off!
