I don't use my ignore list for pointless things that can be taken care of by setting private to friends so I just store fairy ring codes on it :lol:

I only put people on ignore when i'm in an area and the same person floods the chat screen with the same thing over and over again.... then they obviously get taken off at a later stage.

 

 

 

I don't really like the whole friends list set up on RS anyway to be honest. I don't like the fact that people can add you without their permission. I'd like to see a facility where you have to approve people or something.

Sure, you could say, why didn't you just turn Private Chat to friends, but I don't like to do that and there are many people who would agree.

 

Jagex should make it so that it just shows you as offline to the guy you put on your ignore list, otherwise it's not very nice to the little 'uns, is it now?

 

 

 

I definately agree with you. I don't like to turn PM to Friends because I find it annoying when someone has PM to Friends and I need to talk to them so I don't do it back to anyone else.

 

 

 

As for the offline part, I thought it did that it already did that, but I guess I'm wrong. Yes. Jagex needs to fix that!

I think you have it all wrong. I was pretty sure once you add someone to ignore, you appear offline to the other person. I've had friends in the past who asked me to see if a certain player is offline because they might have ignored them. So I add the person and find them to be online for me, but offline for my friend. Unless its been changed.

 

 

 

 

 

But still. You're the first person I've met who considers the ignore list mean. I mean, its not as if they don't deserve it after pestering you. Especially when people like to spam your pm or a clan chat you like to visit (like Lightning's chat), the ignore list is very helpful. I would say that ignoring them is a lot less mean then swearing back at them like some people choose to do...

Ignore list = handy.

I don't use my ignore list not because I thought it was mean but because I don't care what is said about me. We'll it is mean now that I think about it is like picking up the phone and laying it on the table. If you don't wanna talk you don't have to pick up the phone (ie: they would think you were not their). But it just seems rude for them to know your their and not even get a response.

It is not mean, unless in your case where they are new to the game and are just kind of annoying, asking you random things that you think they should already know, etc.

 

 

 

I ignore anybody who spams the screen, then take them off in a week or two. If it's too many spammers, like house party spam when 90+ cons person logs, i just turn off chat for a while...

Rather than using the ignore list, I prefer to just change my chat to friends and take them off my friends list. This way, I can basically filter only the people I feel like talking to and allowing only them to realize that I am on. I guess this is another reason I don't use a world as my home world where I will always log on.

Showing it as offline forever would be awesome. I told some kids in real life I quit Rs. I just took them off friends list and keep it on "friends" When I buy something off forums, I turn chat to off, re add the kids in real life, and if they aren't on, I turn it to on and buy. Confusing and stupid, I know.

I just tested this with my friend. He said I was still listed as "onlien" when he was on ignore. Now I must seem like a jerk to this guy who thought I was so awesome... :?

I have a very low tolerence for people who dont know how to offer the correct cash. I tele + ignore them without warning if they dont fix the trade promptly. Theres no second chances when your dealing with me im sorry.. I really cant be bothered with your spam! I made me offer clear before the trade began... :shame:

I never, ever use the ignore list. Just pretend to occasionally. Funner that way. :D

i always thought it showed you were still online to them, but the next time you logged in it would show your offline...

If someone just adds you and starts annoying you, then you should have the guts to tell people they're annoying and if they don't stop then off to ignore list they go.

 

If they don't stop, then it's time for action :arrow: Ignore

 

But yes they should still change it to offline for the ignored.

I know that on many messengers like AIM and MSN, you will appear offline to anyone you block. It doesn't seem to work that way in RS, despite popular belief.

 

 

 

There are advantages to both ways. If you appear offline, then people can find out that you blocked/ignored them simply by creating another account. They might be offended to know that you blocked them and might continue to harass you on another name. If you appear online, then the person may not know that you are blocking them, and are unlikely to create another name just to harass you.

 

 

 

For some reason, people on AIM seem to be more likely to block someone than on RS. I've had quite a few people (including real-life friends) block me on AIM but I doubt more than five people have put me on their ignore list on RS.

 

 

 

As for the OP's question, it's not necessarily "mean" to ignore someone, though it might be a good idea to give someone a warning or to before putting them on ignore. I haven't had to put anyone on ignore for six years now, though there have been times where I was close to doing so.

I cleared mine out years ago, it makes a great notepad. Private-->friends solves my problems just fine.

That's correct. At least that's how it's always been. Of course, knowing Jagex and there uber updates here lately, they probably tinkered around with the ignore list settings.
