[TF2] It's MANN Vs. Machine!

We've been pretty quiet lately, but thankfully, that's about to end. In the next few days we'll have an update out that has a couple of new features for the Engineer and Spy, and a variety of other smaller fixes.

 

 

 

* Teleporters will be upgradeable to level 3. As the teleporter is upgraded, the cooldown will decrease.

 

* Dispensers will be upgradeable to level 3. They will heal faster and generate metal faster as they are upgraded.

 

* Spies will be able to recharge their cloaking ability by picking up ammo off of the ground.

 

* We've made a bunch of minor changes by adding particle systems and upgrading the HUD to show things like deaths by critical hits, players that are overhealed, and giving more information to medics when people are calling for them.

 

 

 

These are just to work on some class balance and depth issues that we've seen in the wild with these two classes, but aren't meant to replace their entire class packs. They will be getting more attention further down the road.

While that's in testing, we're off working on several things that folks have been emailing us about, so we thought it'd be good to provide some detail:

 

 

 

* The next class pack will be the Scout. One of the main goals we're focusing on for him has been to provide tools that make him useful in maps like Dustbowl & Goldrush. If you have any ideas for what you think would work well, post them over on the Team Fortress 2 Forum and we'll take a look.

 

* We are actively working on a massive XBox 360 update, which will include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year. We'll provide you with a rough date when we have one.

 

* We're also working on bringing over a variety of engine improvements from Left 4 Dead into the TF2 engine, but it won't be a wholesale replacement of the engine. This means we'll get some of L4D's performance improvements, like the better multicore support, but not all of them. For example, we can't bring over some improvements without dropping support for DX8, which we're not prepared to do.

Wow nice, thanks for sharing. Especially looking forward to the medic update, since that's my preferred class. Also the dispenser update is well needed. I hardly ever use them except for restocking on ammo, I basically only use them for healing when there are two dispensers right next to eachother (my guild has a mod on our 2fort server... engis can build 2x dispensers and 2x SGs each :D )

Also:

 

 

 

- Some changes to the second part of the first stage of Goldrush to give the attackers more of an advantage

 

- Any weapons that fire bullets (shotguns, sniper's machine gun, heavy's minigun, etc.) can now break apart the Demoman's stickybombs

 

- Added an achievement tracker that will allow people to choose specific achievements that they are trying to get.

This is awesome. Though I woudlve preferred if TP level 3 had a dual teleporter added on instead.

 

Though all this will do is encourage more camping as an engineer, as if it werent already easy enough to sit in a corner with a sentry and hammer over and over.

It had better be an incredibly small recharge per ammo, thats just hugely powered up. What the hell.

Bonk Bat - +50% damage if you shout BONK as you swing.

 

 

 

Though the likelihood will be adding a triple jump, added agility or faster caps. Since thats all a scout is ever useful for anyway.

Finally a spy update. Seriously, spies are so underpowered against good players right now it's not even funny.

 

 

 

Learn to play the bloody class.

 

 

 

 

 

And the trouble with pyros is everyone whining about how that they are so OP when just look how weak they are in close quaters combat against a descent team.

But how easy is it to find a decent team?Hell,in Xbox I dominate as pyro.(In Xbox I can dominate as anything,people suck.)

I did an experiment with the new Spy update on cloaking. Seems like I can go from RED spawn all the way to BLU spawn in Goldrush without uncloaking. So many bits of metal around, it's scary really.

 

 

 

Nerf, pl0x. A dropped weapon gives back half of cloak already

What I meant is that disguises are pretty much useless (except as a sentry shield). Nobody is fooled by them anymore... this update allow spies to at least get into a decent position behind enemy lines for a decent height-advantage stab.

 

 

 

Although from what Echo posted it sounds a little overpowered.

It seems some people are finding ways to mess with the 360 system. I've found a couple games where there was friendly fire, straight out ability to enter other spawns, inter-team communication, all of which I left pretty quickly. But today-and this takes the cake-zero gravity. You could jump from the battlements in 2Fort all the way to the other side, float down, rocket jump out of the water onto land, it was awesome. And every shot was critical. No actual CTFing, but just plain awesome fun. I stayed in that one for awhile.

As a spy I just target snipers unless theres a heavy-medic pair that hasn't noticed me. Or an unguarded turret. Snipers usually don't notice you if you start behind them.

No people 9 times out of 10 belive a good spy.

 

Its just sense not to run straight around them if they are not firing at you etc.

 

And avoiding pyros is the only hard part.

I think the spy update is slightly overpowerd. And yes i've played spy. a lot. The big ammo packs should only give half cloak, the smaller ones/weapons 1/4 cloak, and the really small ammo just gives 1/4, so it's not just useless. I played on badwater and near the spawn, so many ammo packs a spy ran around invisble, stopping to backstab someone once in a while, for like 3 minutes before a pyro got him. Really good update, just needs to be toned down a bit.
