July 9, 200818 yr Don't bother quoting me, I'm not gonna come back to this thread, so all replies to this post are otherwise pointless. If you quote me, you phail at everything. Wrong. I'm not phailing at being a rebel by disobeying your orders right now, now am I? :notalk: OT: Something else was obviously on his mind, and the video game problem was just the cherry that topped it all off. Maybe it could be a relationship issue with his father?
July 9, 200818 yr Poor kid, Im assuming that there was some other background family information that led to his suicide, cuz imo I dont think anyone would hang himself/herself over a game. Its just too extreme, what has the world become of today?!? Note: When I first read his name "Jake Roberts", I had a temporary heart stoppage as I thought it was Jake "The Snake" Roberts. 00:00:0500:00:0400:00:0300:00:0200:00:0100:00:00 Break the Walls down!
July 9, 200818 yr hmph. this story is ridiculous. it made me laugh simply because it obviously isn't the whole story. clearly, like other people have said, he had other issues. problems solved for him, created for others, oh well. suicide is just something that i'll never think is ok. i don't care how they do it or what their motivation is, i lose any respect for them that i had when they were alive, if i had any that is. as for news stories like this, i couldn't really care less about some kid who kills himself for whatever reason. sucks for the family though. July 9, 200818 yr thats kinda harsh robert, read the whole thread before making comments like that. Like some of the others said he probably did have other issues apart from the console removal, does anybody REALLY know what happens in his house..? That's why you're on the TZDF blackdawn. Even your balls can tear zombies to shreds.
July 9, 200818 yr An article as expected by the Daily (hate) Mail Exactly my thought. A healthy kid does not kill themself over a video game, or over pretty much anything really. This is just another sensationalist article. And what is with all the unfunny trolls recently? It's not cool or funny to act like a /b/retard. If you're going to troll at least be funny.
July 9, 200818 yr Just about every single person replying to it is a 13 year old furry. The typical reply on this thread is 'omg the news is liek just trying to make videos games look bad' and 'there were probably some other highly intellectual psychological problems that contributed to this young furry killing himself. Actually, alot of people who commit suicide have nothing left to live for in their eyes. Not being able to play a game is one of those things. For all we know, the media is being withheld information. Happens sometimes, and the scapegoat happens to be that he wanted to play a game. Suicide is the last resort thing. Suicide bombers see that they have nothing left to live for, and are filled with hate, they take their life and want to take some action against something. They end up just wanting people to know what their final actions were. Denizen of Darkness| PSN= sworddude198
July 9, 200818 yr Pfft, another suicide, another young person dead before he even had a chance to live... Yeah, I agree with the thread though, it's not only videogames. I know that if I was as smart and talented as this kid I wouldn't commit suicide over a ... computer game... for the Wii... Err... Anyway, it's sad for the family, but it's life. =/

I'm not trying to be funny, nor am I trying to be cool. I'm simply voicing my opinion. I think it's slightly amusing that someone would do that over a video game alone, which I'm not entirely sure it was, but that's what the thread's about. [English translation needed]

July 9, 200818 yr *sigh* Kids these days. Too bad for his family and friends. what friends?, kids who kill themselves usually have no friends. Jake was a popular pupil at St Augustine's Roman Catholic secondary school in the town and a page on social networking site Bebo has been dedicated to him. It features emotional tributes from school friends. One reads 'your face just made my face light up in a way, just to see your big cheesy grin. Miss you loads'. Another simply says: 'Miss you every single day you have a special place in everyone's heart.' Err? :|

Ok, then you just have no idea what you're talking about then? I'll say it again, Healthy people do not kill themselves over a video game, he had something wrong with him. And take what the Dailymail says with a grain of salt.

July 9, 200818 yr Daily Mail. More like 'Daily Fail'. Conservative bias upon conservative bias. Quick to blame the media for deaths of young people in the United Kingdom. Maybe not the worst newspaper, but it misses out on that accolade by a very small amount. Right, now I have that out of the way. I can't help but thinking it was little more than either a teenager seeking attention or a cry for help. His parents obviously ignored his tantrum, so maybe he decided to attempt it and see if they would find him, with no intent or knowledge of the possible result of it. However, the lines 'sensitive' and 'great imagination' kind of tells me that he could've had trouble elsewhere; or maybe they were just adding that to make the obituary look good. I have no clue on how to interpret stuff like this; the newspapers twist it beyond comprehension, so I'll just post my opinion. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
July 9, 200818 yr Like everone else has said, the kid obviously wasn't completely there. Any mentally healthy child that argues with their parents over a video game wouldn't kill themself if they were upset.
July 9, 200818 yr I don't get how people are going ahead and calling this kid stupid. First, I don't think "stupid" people can commit suicide. Do "stupid" people really have the knowledge to plan their suicide? It's more then obvious, that the kid either had issues at school or at home. True, the kid might have been angry, but the sister could have also have told the kid that he can play later or something similar. Why can't people share tbh? Also the father taking away the Wii? Simply asking him to to his room is good enough, but to get that angry to say no more Wii? Face it, some people look at video games as an escape. Others do it with music. The kid needed therapy. Edit: The title of this topic is misleading. I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]
July 9, 200818 yr Doesn't this seem familiar to any of you? Ah, yes. The article about the Dutch kid who hanged himself when his Runescape account got hacked. All the articles tried to blame the Runescape, and gaming itself. Then it turned out he already had other problems. This is no different. Get back here so I can rub your butt.

July 9, 200818 yr as dozens of people have already said, the media loves to put the blame on videogames. The parents said a computer game for his Wii... what? I don't think the kid is the kind who tells his parents everything. who knows? maybe something happened at school and he managed to hide all his emotions. the last thing he needed was an argument. and of course we can tell the article is trying to point that videogames must be the source in the dispute. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. July 9, 200818 yr Why should I be sensitive for a kid that took his own life. It was his choice, and it wasn't any body else's fault. I think this kid was stupid because he took his own life, whether or not the reason was a trivial or large matter. If he was stupid enough to kill himself as a teenager, then he wouldn't have been a very rational or productive member of society. Alot of y'all are like "Oh well there's probably a bigger picture, he could have been teased at school blah blah blah". I still haven't changed my mind. The kid was stupid enough to kill himself instead of looking to resolve the situation. The ONLY WAY I would feel sympathy for this kid is if he had a mental disorder or problem. And that may or may not be possible, seeing that the Media loves to point more of the spotlight at some things than others.
July 9, 200818 yr First of all, how can someone not mean to hang themselves? Second of all maybe he was extremely depressed, and were debating suicide before, and he took that last tantrum as the final scratch? However i completely agree with HeWhoAtePie above. Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)
July 9, 200818 yr First of all, how can someone not mean to hang themselves? Irrational thinking. He might have thought that he wouldn't have really died, or that his parents would have stopped him or something, and wasn't really trying to kill himself. Unfortunately he did. HeWhoAtePie, I'm just going to assume that you've had a good life, a lucky life. Never really had any major problems, never had big family issues, never got seriously bullied at school. And you probably don't remember your teenage years, when hormones rage, you do extremely irrational things, like committing suicide. I'm not saying every teenager commits suicide, but people like this kid do. And what if he did have a mental disorder? (Personally, I'd think it would've been mentioned, but it's the media...) I know you would change your mind then, since you said so...But innocent until proven guilty? Assume that he had a mental disorder, until it's been proven that he didn't? July 9, 200818 yr There are WAY too many holes in this story. I'm going to go off the beaten track for a second here... An ambulance was called and Jake was rushed to Scarborough Hospital, but he was pronounced dead two days later as a result of hanging. This is the thing that threw me the most. It took two days? Why? Most of the time, these deaths are either A) Asphyxiation (instant) or B) Broken neck (usually instant). Usually, it doesn't take two days to be pronounced dead. Either something else happened, or the hospital was just that damn slow. Now onto the more overly trodden path. Ok, there is a fine line between genius and insanity. If this kid was as talented as they say he was, then obviously this kid had more problems than what we're seeing. I think he was just a tiny bit over that genius/insanity border. If I'm right, the parents don't want to admit he had issues before this, or the media is overlooking it.
