New New Nano

Ipods have poor sound quality, which defeats the purpose. They suck, period. The ipod classics sound suck, all the other spinoffs suck even more, and the touch is the one that sucks the most. "OHGAWD LOOK I CAN DO THIS AND THAT AND THIS HAHAHAH" yeah? Thought to check the sound quality, sucker? Ipods used to be the best, but now all the other companies surpassed it, better screens, better battery life, better sound quality, and better price. Ipods are for idiots, end of dicussion.

Do you... Own an iPod?

I find them to have very good sound quality, especially the iPhone/Touch/Nano. The WiFi capability, GPS, Video player, multi-touch, and the latest software 2.1 makes the iPod by far the best AV device there is. You can even wirelessly store files on an iPod Touch/iPhone via local network connection.

He probably owns one, just doesn't have the brains to try a different set of earphones... the thing that really changes sound quality.

Or he could even try not getting terrible quality songs. Bet he never thought of anything besides "damn, this iPod sucks".

Lol...people still pay for music?

What the heck do you mean Lol? In case you were not aware, downloading a track of music without paying for it from a website (ie. Limewire) is ripping from the artist. Stealing, in other words. And in case you were also not aware, stealing can get you convicted by the police, which probably means imprisonment.

Welcome to the internet. We're all criminals here ::'

I spend more time with my ipod than i do my girlfreind, at least thats what she says :P.

It looks amazinga nd i want a classic ipod, 80gb in this style, bright yellow aluminium.I think the sound quality of ipods is based on the headphones you use, using the standard ones on the go and my skullcandys at home for when im listening to some podcasts and melting face in TF2.Beutifully designed device and i think it gives credence to those leaked plans for a convex curved ipod classic

at christmas i buy, had my ipod 2 years now, time for an upgrade.

You're referring the tiny minority that actually make it anywhere on the music scene. The vast majority of artists won't sell platinum albums and won't be millionaires in a year.

Yea, I realize that the amount of artists that live like that are few and far between, but he's making it seem like the people that are pirating their music are practically stealing food from their tables. Really the only music that is easily available online is from big artists, ones who have already made it. Pirates aren't keeping garage bands from getting started, they're just minutely lowering big band's profits. And one could argue that file sharing has actually helped some bands. Someone might not want to spend $10 on their album, but if they download it (and like it) it could lead to future concert tickets/merch sales.

You have a point, but maybe then the issue is that artists have too much difficulty getting their music heard so they can 'hook' people onto them, in order to sell tickets for live performances and merchandise later.

Maybe what artists (or rather, record companies) should be doing is making a few of their songs available for free for a certain time only on iTunes and mp3 websites like Napster or 7digital. Because you're right - I'm not gonna pay 80p for a song I may very well not like, but I don't exactly want to steal from them to make sure I'm buying right either. :?

As far as musicians making too much money is concerned - the musicians themselves will make hardly anything compared to the record label. They constantly use the excuse "But it's a high risk, so high risk, high rewards" but when one band is making them millions of dollars in profit maybe they should just be taxed more in order to lower prices for the consumer.

Got one as a gift a while ago. I also own one of the new cowons. And you wanna know what? There's no comparing. Cowons sound is nice and smooth, you hear everything.

My earphones are actually very good. And Ipods still suck. God forbid you use internet and read up the hundreds of websites all pointing out that ipods sucks, and that you're and idiot for buying one. Bye.

You know, all this talk about new features and Diesel's mention of Cowans reminded me of how much I hate a lot of these features. I just want an mp3 player that plays music. No pictures, no videos, no gps, just music. That's one reason I liked some of the earlier iPods; because they were simple.

I like them. Good price for the amount of space they have. And they look really good, I really like the yellow one.

Damn...they put more memory for the same price. *sigh*

Why the curve though? Flat is where it's at mayne! I mean won't the curve give more glare?

But, I'm loving the new features though like you can hold the middle button instead of pressing menu for different songs or other albums by same artist lol.

But "Genius" feature looks pretty cool when using it IN the ipod, when you use it for iTunes it's basically just to buy more songs from iTunes.

The curve gives the engineers more space to work in. I can predict that they will find smaller components for a better price next time around, thus removing the need for a curve while being able to keep the price the same or lowering it.

I'm not especially diagreeing with you, I just want to point out that you're spreading misinformation. Music piracy is copyright infringement, a legal matter of intellectual property rights that the police would have nothing to do with. You might get fined yes, but certainly not imprisoned. It's also not stealing in the traditional sense of the word since you're just downloading a virtual copy of which there are theoretically infinite amounts. By pirating music you're not depriving anyone else of their property, which is what stealing traditionally constitutes.

I don't get it with i-pods. It plays music, fine, that was done years ago. I see no reason to get excited about "new" versions every year, especially for hundreds of dollars.

Thinking of it that way, you're right. We shouldn't be getting excited about a new iPod every year. But I don't think it's really the iPod we get excited about or even the new features. I think it's the idea that there's "new" technology and we could be the first of our social groups to obtain said technology. And on top of that, we can appear to others to be smart because we can probably list off all the new features of our latest toy and our peers will envy us and want to buy one as well. So for a few days, you could be on top. It's like vehicles, they release a "new" version of most models every year and we eat them up when sometimes all they did was throw a year on it and call it "new". So essentially we're not getting excited over the product, but the social aspect of having the latest and greatest things.

The marketers would be proud of you all :) They spend a lot of time and money manipulating you, and not only have you been manipulated into getting excited about stuff that shouldn't be exciting, but you even understand and accept that that is what is happening!

Check out CERN. That's some cool new technology!

(not that I'm immune to marketing hype. I bought a pointlessly large TV, and it probably doesn't really improve my life...)

This is definitely a /facepalm moment. Nowhere in my post did I say I was excited about the new iPod. Yes, I understand how marketing works and how we as customers/consumers fall prey, but it's really not that difficult. You said everyone was getting excited about the new iPod, I told you what they were really getting excited about, and suddenly I've been manipulated to be excited about the new iPod? I don't see your logic at all.

I was extremely excited the first day they started testing the LHC ::' Though I think it's a shame they merely fired the proton beams around the tunnel and called it a day. Now I'm excited for the day they fire those beams at each other ::'

Has anyone else tried the "genius" feature? I just downloaded the latest iTunes just for that feature and I have to say I do like it. Sure, I could make the playlist myself but with 4700 songs to go through, it is nice to have a program just throw together a bunch of similar songs. If only I could get this on my Zune :-k

I have to admit that I rarely notice any difference in the quality of music, unless it truly is horrible. I used my default iPod earphones until they broke yesterday. Then I went out and got a pair of $15 ones. I have not paid more than $40 for a pair of headphones/earphones. I have been wanting to try a pair of high-quality headphones/earphones for a while now, just to see if there is any difference I can notice. I know there are audiophiles that can notice the slightest difference in headphone quality, but it seems that I can only notice what would be considered enormous differences to those same audiophiles.

I have also come to realize that if a product is packaged with other features (I.e. a clock/radio/iPod speaker system) then the overall quality of every component will take a hit. For comparison, I have an iPod speaker that is just that. My sister, on the other hand has a clock/radio/iPod speaker, and the quality of the speakers is horrible. There is next to no bass, and an insane amount of treble. It annoys the hell out of me, especially when I can't find the right settings on my iPod to compensate for the difference. Oh, and that is on thing I would love. Access to an equalizer, something that would allow us to tailor the sound of our music to your tastes. In other words, actually improve the sound quality of our music.

The iPod shuffles are amazing for trips, but the amount of music I listen to, I cba to use one. Hence me getting a Classic.

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

got the Ipod video 3 years ago i wanna say? it was pretty close to when they first came out i believe, like most people i got something that plays music with relative easy, its got a decent battery life, and its good for car rides etc cause i can watch movies (got clover field, I am legend, and some others, or watch some family guy). its also not very hard to add music to it either.

hate or love the ipod its a decent MP3 device, everyone needs one now adays it seems like so if you coming in on it late i guess this would be a good buy compared to all of us who paid like 400$ for our ipods with less memory, less functions, and are bigger lol :D

Are you friking kidding me!!??!! Did you bother to read any other posts before posting? Please, for the love of God find me an mp3 player with a screen resolution above 204 ppi, and over 24 hours of battery life. If you do find one, it will either be huge, or have almost no storage space. If you're looking for better sound quality, and don't give a damn about anything else, then the iPod isn't right for you. But if you care at all about how it looks, feels, or preforms, you may want to consider an iPod. I personally can't think of anything that would be more comfortable in my back pocket while sitting on it.

The iTunes 8 update include the Genius feature, which I was eager to give a go. It's actually pretty good, although nothing new as Last.fm and Pandora have been doing it for years, but it's nice to have instant playlists in your iTunes. There was a rumour that they were going to provide it as a free update for iPod classics, but apparently it was just a rumour. It's a shame because that would have been really nice.
