Charms - Not always worth picking up?

Recommended Posts

They're waaaay worth picking up if you want to train Summoning, and even if you don't you might want to some time in the future. Even for a gold charm spending half and extra second picking it up is well worth the 60xp you get, and for crims/blues it's 300/700xp per charm and they're just begging to be picked up. The only time I've left charms on the floor is if I was boss hunting and had better things to pick up + knew they wouldn't add up to much when stacking. I've never left a crimson/blue charm on the floor to date in my memory however.

Pick up all charms... it doesn't slow you down noticably, maybe an hour for 99?

Whats the point in 85+ slayer?

Dark Beasts, cool Skill Cape, potentional new high lvl Slay monsters, ...

+ Overall level and experience

Whats the point in dark beasts? In fact, theres no point in training slayer at all besides it's 99 benifit.

Sorry for the double post but I only just saw this and can't leave it unresponded! Slayer not only just gets you another skill up, it practically gives people a way of life. And if killing beasts while hitting 15% more often and 15% harder while getting Dragon Boots and Whips and Dark Bows and uncountably large numbers of rune items along the way isn't worth it for you then by all means have fun sitting at your one monster hitting away for 2-4 levels at a time nice and slowly while I get up 5 levels at a time, and faster due to my attack bonus from Slayer mask, and make huge profits from the drops I get.

Whats the point in 85+ slayer?

Dark Beasts, cool Skill Cape, potentional new high lvl Slay monsters, ...

And Abyssal Demons. :P

Summoning can be a huge pain when you want to level it but don't have the charms.

Gathering all the charms you can while training another skill is the best way of getting them. If you don't, when the time comes for you to get summoning up it will be a struggle and more wasted hours of combat.

What you lose in xp/hr for Slayer for picking up charms you more than make up for in xp/hr in Summoning. You have to look at it across two skills, Summoning and Slayer are linked skills, like Smithing and Mining or Fishing and Cooking, even more so by the fact that charms are untradable, they're very dependant on each other.

The only exceptions to this rule is if you've got Summoning 99 or you suddenly find yourself with an inventory space dilemma. Even if you have no desire to train Summoning, you might want to give it a go later on, once you've got a decent stock of charms and other ingredients.

I pick charms up whenever I get the chance. I don't really bother to train summoning, but if I ever reach my goal of 99 construction, I'm saving up just in case.

Of course, don't take them if you're never going to use/sell them, that's the same with every single monster drop in the game.

I advise you take them anyway because when you're 126 with nothing left to do, summoning's evident :P

The only time when I don't pick up charms is when killing blue drags. And even then, I only leave green and gold.

They are such a pain in the [wagon] to get... -.-

Summoning is a compliment skill to slayer just as fishing is to cooking or even more directly obvious and unavoidable melee combat skills to hitpoints.

That and the fact that I have enjoyed training both well past 99 are the reason I still pick up each and every single charm. (Even If I dont plan on using them ever...it will still looking massive / 'impressive' for ranks and could potientally strike fear into the hearts of the front page summoning rankers?)

Congratulations, your one of the many people in this world that make the human race look and sound dumber each and every time you say something as pointlessly stupid and on such a magnitude of foolishness such as this.

(I would say something else like +1 Fail level, but apparently you don't like additional level ups...)

I haven't left one charm on the ground, its best to get them while you can, and usually they come with a drop worth picking up :)

But if you have no need for charms in any sort of reasonable future, would you still pick them up? I've started slaying today and not picking them up and tbh it's so much more relaxing, faster, easier and more generous on your inv space.

so you dont think a titan that can help get slayer xp FASTER is worth the minute amount that you are loosing picking up charms and are you really planning on doing all slayer till the pointy where you quit?

You guys are missing my point? Is there a point in training slayer? Yes. However, there really is no benefit of actually training the skill itself, besides training the skill. (Applies to the guy who said theres no point in training summoning if he's not going to get a stupidly high level)

Edit: I guess you can say I was being half sarcastic...

Well, that depends if the slayer monster requires healing like that of a bunyip. ;)

In any case, I always pick up my shards to keep my options open. If I leave them on the ground, there are none. ::'

The two skills don't compliment each other.

If you want fast slayer, don't pick anything up, take easier tasks from summona, and use a cannon.

If you want fast summoning just goto the waterfiends or rock lobsters if you don't care about gp.

You'll be wasting your time trying to get charms on slayer since most monsters in runescape drop a paltry amount of them.

You'll also be wasting your time fiddling around picking up charms or trying to make summons attack anything in slayer if thats all your after.

You're a moron and cutting your own throat if you don't pick up your charms. FACT. Plain and simple.

Yeah, you'd get 99 Slayer a heck of a lot quicker in the loooong run, but then what happens in the future when you didn't pick up your charms while slaying? Oh darn, now you have to take time to go kill more monsters to earn them back. You = Stupid.

Am I the only one who fully agrees? I hate slayer. Hate it hate it hate it. The monsters suck, the lengths suck, the repeat tasks suck, the drops suck, and the setup sucks.

Id rather powertrain somewhere or kill certain monsters for drops than train the waste that is slayer. 69 is where it is right now, and where its going to stay for a while. Iv died twice, loosing a black mask, since, the task was stupid. (Did the monsters that need a mirror shield in the smoking kills dungeon, and, I died. Because they lowered my stats too much, and, the grave wasnt even there. I really hate slaying. Spend so much time on one task when I can just get 4x the exp by camping. And high slayer levels ftw? No. I wont ever get 85, since, the time involved is nuts. Id rather powertrain all my skills and get there faster than a higher slayer level.

Slayer dart was about the only reason I even got slayer up. Then for dusties, for charms. Thats it.
