Skills that most need updating

Featured Replies

What skills in your opinion most need updating? Please just list 1 or 2 so we can get a large variety of opinions.

For me, the number one skill that needs to be updated is mining. Its big brother smithing has been getting some solid updates of late, while mining hasn't been updated since they released the rune pick. Leveling is absurdly tedious and slow, and there's no profit to be made at all, even though it's a resource gathering activity. I wish Jagex would spend some more time on one of Runescape's oldest skills!

Winged Fish on a RWT complaint-

There's four complaints on the whole site, one from a mother who was convinced by her son that the RWTers she was buying him items from were from Jagex (and then got scammed and is taking it out on Jagex), two people complaining about having their accounts taken away, and one ranting on the trade restrictions and wilderness removal.

Now just change the background color and page layout, and you have the RSoF

Mining - While there have been some nice improvements (shooting stars, inferno adze, Varrock Armor 3), it's still far and away the worst skill in the game.

Agility - The usefulness of agility took a dive with the introduction of summoning (as terrorbirds extend run) and the pools of Ooglog. We really need some new shortcuts or a better training method which perhaps yields something of value.

Firemaking for sure. Having 99 doesn't really give you anything much. :(

Mining would be nice but i'm not really sure what they would do to make it better. Perhaps a dragon pick to help mith addy and rune mining a little faster.

Cooking could do with some more complex but higher healing foods. We have tuna taters which are good but when people can hit me for the 30's and beyond it isnt really much at all. I would like to see some foods perhaps combined with a healing potion to heal higher amounts.

People always moan about wanting updates to firemaking but ive never read an idea from someone on actually making it worthwhile. Firemaking is what it is, you make a fire, end. I would have liked the beacon game to be worth repeating as a viable alternative to training the current way.

As for agility i'd love to see loads more shortcuts scattered all over the place squeezing though holes in wals during quests or climbing rocks

Sailing, easily. It's been so long since that skill was updated, we're still stuck with @!%÷ing Royal Galleons at level 88.

Other than that, possibly Mining:

While it beats woodcutting, so the above quote is IMO wrong, it's boring. I don't want a dragon pickaxe, I want something else to do with the mining skill. Maybe just plain and simple mining, but in more of a brains-skill related way than in just a "click the black blotch" way.

You're being watched.

I was expecting Aedleyt Ore (or whatever) to become minable after the Grandmaster quest came out, but it seems not. I predict it will become minable (with revolutionary new smithable items!) with the release of the Dragon Pickaxe in the unknown future. (next Grandmaster quest? involving vampires somehow?)

Although the All Fired Up quest and its Inferno Adze reward gave Firemaking a slight purpose it isn't enough. That skill is obsolete, and I don't think there's any way to make it significantly useful. Jagex made a mistake by not taking it out at the launch of RS2. They took out Black Magic, so they could have done the same here.

Smithing is mostly obsolete as well. Sure, at lvl 99 we can make full rune but it takes a long time to get to 99 and full rune isn't all that important nowadays. I expect it to become more useful when Aedsomething Ore becomes obtainable and usable. It's hard to believe one of the most full skills (meaning you are able to make something new with it at nearly each level) isn't as useful/profitable as it was in Classic.

Some skills like Prayer (a handful of new Prayer), Construction (some new rooms), Magic (needs a higher max hit) and Hunter (Ohai der!) could use a few tweaks and new content but the skills mentioned above need more attention.

Pretty much what Dragon said.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

Cooking has enough things to do. There are better options. Mining, and agility being two of them.

You can't use the arguement about Jagex taking out necromancy/Black Magic because they also took out evil prayer. Both skills however were very early on in Runescapes history and thus did not really have that wide an impact.

I think they should tweak the firemaking name and change it to something like forging or somthing and then make that "new skill" that is an add on to smithing so you use your firemaking/forging to do the first process and then you use your smithing lvl for the second process. This makes training firemaking worth while. Forging would start at like lvl 80 or 85 and go up to 95 or something. The first process of the item would be untradeable and only the finished product could be traded.

they could make agility more like parkour :D:D

What are you smoking...? Can I buy some?
Hah Tip.It probaly knows more about Runescape then Jagex.

Those in most serious need of change:

firemaking, mining, smithing, fishing, agility

But these really require some work aswell:

fletching, cooking, thieving, woodcutting, herblore

every skill needs updating if people are used to it.

Eindhoven_by_Sadocles.jpg

Thieving.

It's pretty much useless.

The melee combats, nothing past 80 for attack, 76 for strength and for defence.

In no such order;

Agility, Mining, Firemaking (perhaps all "fun" minigames with decent rewards?)

^agreed.

Agility has no real use other then some nifty shortcuts, which aren't used ever since you can teleport pretty much everywhere.

Mining, no real update since ever. Not fun. Not rewarding. Needs updating fast.

Firemaking, we can definitly update this one. Don't come in debating that firemaking isn't useless because of shades of mortton.

lol one of the biggest pvp updates of the year, and tip it is discussing granite

mining by far. its the slowest skill to train, and the best pick (rune) is "a bronze dagger" in comparison to the dragon wc axe. i cant say much about fishing cuz a harpoon is a harpoon, but the rune pick is old fashioned. dragon pick would b the best thing released to mining since rune. also, we should have more profitable ways of training it, i mean, like fletching has yews, fishing has lobbies+, but mining has rune...and mining one rune ore is very slow, and thats y mining doesnt make you any money EFFICIENTLY. i dont know how jagex will make it more profitable without introducing a new ore...but maybe they can add a new mineable rock that will be used to many other skills so that will generate some degree of decent income and have it at like lvl 70 mining to it wont drop in price.

call me insane, but i find mining fun. its relaxing, and just a real good time killer while i work my way to 99. but i agree with other posters that its not very rewarding in the monetary sense.
