Burzuk
Liked the title eh? Why do people find the need to kiss [wagon] whenever they see a higher level, a person with a skillcape or a person with a rare? I can understand most of the times when they a rare-wearing person they generally want geepees but there's the trade restrictions so they probably won't get much! I really want to "hear" your opinions on this.
Inuashakent
It's just a general rule. If I try to get Aviansie kills at the fastest pace possible (yes that means killing everything) I get called a noob every 3 minutes. If a level 5 started following you and says hi, what would the first thing on your mind be? Evaluate
I really don't see much of what you're talking about in-game anymore. I used to see a lot of it, but I think the main reason was they (the beggar) were hoping they'd get free stuff for being nice. Of course, it is also possible simply to misinterpret a genuine compliment as "[wagon]-kissing," as you phrase it. 7 years 'scape knowledge and counting99 Attack - June 8th 2010 99 Defence - August 2nd 2011 99 HP - December 2nd 2011

Ezz
Well, when people see me with my partyhat they usually ask me for moneymaking advice and such, so I think what most of them are after is knowledge. And they of course rationalise that asskissing will give a better answer. [insert birds flying in a circle here]Yes, that sig was annoying. warren211
^I agree. Back in my noob days when I didn't have any money, I would sometimes see an incredibly wealthy player walking around in f2p and I would kindly ask him for advice on making money. A few of them were nice, telling me to train up and kill some monsters or get money off woodcutting. But many of them were far too used to the low level kissing up to them and just told me to "gtfo" because the expected me to begin begging them. I didn't know that, I thought I was one of th few with the brilliant idea of asking rich players how to make money. I thought they were just being jerks by saying no. Eventually this ruined my opinion of high level players and I set a goal that when I was level 60+ I would never be like them. Well now I'm 114 and I can see their perspective. Whenever I log onto f2p, the beggars swarm. Even in members when I go to Clan Wars, the level 40s follow me and beg me to join their clan so they can wtfpwn an enemy clan. So now my opinion of low levels has been degraded. I try to take the whole thing with an open mind, but it's difficult when the asskissers and flat-out jerks combine. [hide=]tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities. That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.[/hide]Apparently a lot of people say it. Bauke
I don't know, but those people totally disgust me. I can't travel anywhere without someone crawling up my [wagon]. I'm not even responding anymore. Usually those people have the IQ of a peanut. Honestly, get a life. Seraphyna
I've been getting lots of compliments on my Armadyl chestplate at aviansies lately, I always reply with a generic "ty." I suppose they're just trying to be nice, but it's annoying. Yeah, I get compliments on stuff, then I get asked questions about it. A lot of them the person could answer themself...and answering the same things over and over gets really annoying. People who follow you around are annoying too. Though it used to happen a lot more than it does now, people who follow me spamming me with "hi" or asking me if I want a bf (which is really pathetic, by the by) are just obnoxious. And of course when you ignore them they can't rationalize that maybe your public chat is off >.< Sometimes I just say hi, if I get complimented I give a generic ty and if someone asks if I want to be their gf I'd say "if you give me a phat" (before the trade limits and all)...sadly there were no takers :P

I love it when people compliment my defence cape, I worked hard for it, why shouldn't I get a "Hey, nice cape" every now and then. I don't see this as "kissing my rear" but more as a congratulations. Now the one thing I absolutely CANNOT stand is being asked my level. If I am woodcutting and you want to know my level.. look it up. This is mainly the reason why I train with my public chat off. IGoddessI
Because it's like real life, only on a game. People want to be and know the popular people in real life and try to talk to them, kiss [wagon] in hopes of joining their group or being friends with the person. Apply that online, you have a bunch of unknown people wanting to be known, wanting to feel like "somebodies", want something to brag about, want their help or skills. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. Tim
To sum it up in one word: Acceptance. Thankfully i was just being myself and i met a great bunch of friends: A Mother who likes Partying, a P Mod who calls me Bojangles for funny reasons, a lv138 who smells (ollyc3) and a ton of other great people along the way. Im glad i didnt need to kiss arse because otherwise i'd never be able to steal Erms Godsword. Popoto.~<

Superchrisf
I agree, I don't see much of it anymore. However, I would say that it would be caused mostly by the ideas of intimidation or begging, as some have suggested. Intimidation by seeing such a high level in the game, such as a level 100, when starting off as a level 3 is quite scary, at first. It could also just be respect, which ties in with the intimidation idea. Seeing a level 100, we assume that he or she has been playing for a long time, knows a lot about the game so we respect them.
