Best Games.

But the fact is, not every game is crap. You just wont give them chances. I hated FPS' until I played CoD5, and CoD5 isnt even considered a "great" game

I give every game I can a fair shot, but a lot of times I'm not going to waste a rental fee and/or buy a game (or even bother pirating) if it is pretty universally known it is crap.

I'm not even sure what you're talking about anyways, what games haven't I given a chance and why does it even matter.

A lot of games that are crap some people will like. I liked FF5 which is crap to about everyone.

Majora's Mask. I'm a major fan boy, no denying that :P

i also thought majora's mask was pretty good, and i had very thrilling moments with it, but theres no way i'll call it the best game.

imo, no games are the best.

I just love RTS games. Got hooked when I was a kid.

The Command & Conquer Series, yes I have everything save for Kane's Wrath and RA3: Uprising.

AOE. I've heard 3 was a slight disappointment though.

Blizzard's RTS (Warcraft and Starcraft) are decent as well. Starcraft has better gameplay, Warcraft has the better technology (pathing AIs and such)

Spore.

Its the only game I have ever played that has managed to make me feel a dark nostalgia for three hours ago.

Its multiple genres in the same game.

With the upcoming expansion, the customisation option increases even further.

Possibly the most free style game ever created.

IMO some of the best video games have been those that defined genres. DOOM and Duke Nukem 3D pioneered the FPS genre with an incredible amount of style and attitude (something which seems rare these days). Other classics include King's Quest, A Day of The Tentacle, Zelda OoT, Myst, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, GTA 2, etc.

The advent of games like Half-Life marked a change in gamer expectations, if you ask me. Users began to expect more realistic and immersive gameplay. Haven't really been playing any of the more recent games, so no comment there.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I was six years old when my sister would play, and every time she played Epona's song I would cry.

The problem is sometimes reviews have the astounding ability to have a wrong opinion. Most of the time they base a rating on the wrong things.

Too many critics complain "waaah the story makes no sense, this couldn't really work, this isn't really like that waah!"

Games should come down to this: Is it fun? It's a yes or no question.

Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon got pretty negative reviews, all complaining about the story and implausibility. It's a game that stars an alien casino owner that sounds suspiciously like Jack Nicholson and people based their opinions on plausibility.

The point being, people it didn't do well because of critics hating on the story when the actual gameplay was fun as hell.

Games should come down to this: Is it fun? It's a yes or no question.

It's also an extremely subjective question, and one that is often dependent on aspects such as design, soundtrack, user interface, performance, script/storyline, and polish. If these aspects fall short of user expectations, it can impact the overall experience of a game, even if the gameplay itself is enjoyable.

Having fun is an important feature of mainstream games, but it's definitely not the only feature.

Said what I wanted to say.

And anyways, for the record, I don't just mindlessly follow reviews. There are plenty of well reviewed games I dislike (Halo, for example) and there are also games out there that are poorly reviewed that still stand among my favorites (Lineage II).

However just like any human I can't try everything and I will let a review tell me if it is pretty good or not. Of course I really only pay attention to sites I trust, not a metascore, and I certainly do think a lot of sites are terrible for reviews and extremely biased.

(And honestly if you guy's can't tell I was just trying to get a rise out of sworddude, come on, look a little closer. I haven't played HAZE and never really will.)

That's why I still like to place Half Life as my favorite, it really changed so much more than just one genre, it changed everything. Half Life 2 did a lot of the same as well with its physics, these days you always see every game touting around their awesome physics engine but before Half life 2 there really was no such thing.

The classics are always good, I agree. Not as much for being first but even today a lot of them have brilliant level design and it was amazing to see what they could do with so little to go by. Sure, some things in these games are archaic by nature, key cards and such, but they really are impressive.

What's the point of having stories in video games at all then? I think there are various elements to a game for a reason. Like Venomai said, they all add up to create the overall experience you get from playing it. Whether that overall experience is fun or not is the real question.

I will agree that it gets annoying when reviewers think video games are supposed to be 100% plausible though.

Fire Emblem for the GBA

'nuff said

I really enjoy fire emblem, but I didn't like godess of dawn. It introduced to many new classes and it all felt a little rushed. Plus, nephanee was overpowered (now that I have said that, I expect all fire emblem junkies to flame me)

Metal Gear is one of my favorite series. Favorite role playing game is Kingdom Hearts. Favorite FPS is...well, I have never really played an FPS I liked. Third Person goes to Max Payne. Open World goes to Vice City.
