May 27, 200917 yr Great read. I love how he is actually defending himself and explaining the whole F2P vs P2P thing. And the new skill should be exciting
May 27, 200917 yr Awesome. New skill... thing? sounds like it should be good. Also shows how much the previous CEO was the wrong man for the job.
May 28, 200917 yr From what I gathered from this interview: - The majority of players whining about children are, in fact, behaving like children themselves, despite their actual age - Freeplay is NOT a demo (can we kill this rumor here and now?) - A new F2P/P2P skill is coming, and since I heard this one in MMG's chat, it's probably going to be either late this year or early next year - Something totally unexpected and unprecedented in the MMO market - Don't expect any of the mods (namely MMG) to be talking about any updates until they can talk about updates, easily the day of launch Sounds good. Can't wait to see all what happens. Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.
May 28, 200917 yr Cool. But since when is S Diamant Y the best f2p player? look up on the hiscores the top people with 1,494 total and you'll see her name above everyone else  Best Rubik's cube time solve: 27.81 seconds.Completed Facebook Tetris Marathon (670k score)2000+ total with 5 99's, fletching, cooking, attack, thieving and firemaking
May 28, 200917 yr Mark Gerhard has my applause so far. He's actually getting the company to really listen to what players say, and to talk back. The development diaries are going great so far, we have patch notes for every update so we never need to be surprised by unannounced changes, Jmods are posting on the forums more frequently, and there was that whole Q&A thing. Furthermore, Jagex actually committed to spending more time tweaking and improving old content, which is a big step forward. They clearly are willing to respond to player criticism of updates, and have so far successfully made positive changes based on rants (like the changes that have been made to Soul Wars). They're spending more time on QA instead of rushing to release the new stuff on schedule, which is clearly a good thing. And more and more new quests are focusing on continuing existing storylines--they even actually completed the goblin quest line. Thumbs-up all around. Yeah, I really like the new leadership these days. Read my blog | Follow me on Twitter | Track my XP
May 28, 200917 yr Either MMG is a genius or he just worked in the wrong section for years. He is most likely very good at what he does in the tech section but he is not bad when it comes to Marketing and fixing Runescapes image either. Jagex has accomplished alot, ALOT through out the years that they have been active but they never really "bragged" about what they have done. I mean look at WoW, they have like what...10 Million users? With like what...80% RWTers? 10% Other Cheaters/Small RWTers? and 10% honest users? To be honest that's nothing to "brag" about. Although WoW does have it's highlights which I don't know since I've never played it. On the other hand Jagex elimintaed 99% of the RWTers and STILL kept most of their active users. And are still doing great things to keep us happy by listening to us, comunicating with us and not to forget all the great updates. Now my point is that, MMG looks like the guy that will do just that, go out and "brag" about how good RS is and defending it from all the false rumors. *The numbers are ficitional. I only made some up to prove my point. **To WoW fans: What I said about WoW is what I have heard/read/seen. Not in any way am I saying that that is fact.
May 28, 200917 yr Very interesting read, kinda explains why all the crappy updates last year Just trying to push frees to members. Hope this year they ERASE all that crap. I mean... Trouble brewing and The great orb project are big failures in my opinion, even when I haven't tried Trouble brewing yet. Remember: If it ain't awesome, don't do it :D Really...? You've never played Trouble Brewing and you call it a big failure? And GoP is alright, it's got a large fanbase for the minigame, and it's a less monotonous way to train a boring skill. The only reason why Trouble Brewing is so terrible is the real-estate I mean really its all about the real-estate you need to put something where everyone goes not in a jungle full of things that want to kill us and the requirements to get to the jungle no wonder no one is there.
May 28, 200917 yr This new game/skill he talks about is very interesting. If it's a new type of gameplay, I'm thinking more of a first-person WSAD thing :P
May 28, 200917 yr He really seems to enjoy ripping into Iddison's legacy Not much wrong with that really edit: so wait, the secret new MMO they were developing is now actually RuneScape content? dedicate your idle computer power to a scientific project.
May 28, 200917 yr Author He really seems to enjoy ripping into Iddison's legacy Not much wrong with that really edit: so wait, the secret new MMO they were developing is now actually RuneScape content? Yup, the so called "ThirdScape". "There are only two strategies in war. Move forward or change. The victor is the first to realise that when he cannot move forward he must change." ~ Mod Mark H ~
May 28, 200917 yr MOBILISING ARMIES Seriously where did it go? EDIT: Did not read all replies looks like someone said this judging by first post on my page.
May 28, 200917 yr Author MOBILISING ARMIES Seriously where did it go? EDIT: Did not read all replies looks like someone said this judging by first post on my page. They said that they had mayor difficulties and unprecedented problems with MA and was getting kinda annoyed by the whole project. So it won't be for a while yet, and most likely is not the new skill. Trouble brewing and The great orb project are big failures in my opinion, even when I haven't tried Trouble brewing yet. Remember: If it ain't awesome, don't do it :D You are dead wrong on this, there are many of us that feel that the f2p game got much much better with the release of two minigames which were Fist of Guthix and the Great Orb Project. GOP has a fairly big following in f2p, on weekends sometimes there are so many people in the lobby that it is hard to even get into a team. I can easily say that despite its many faults GOP was definately a success (in my opinion).
May 28, 200917 yr Very good read, the big update sounds very interesting, for all we know it isn't a skill, could be anything, this guy really knows what to say to push our buttons. May 28, 200917 yr We're not quite looking to create a "RuneScape 3" if that's what the thought is... We're actually working on a whole new game mechanic. I can't give much away, but it could be an entire game in its own right, or just a skill, or both, who knows. Isnt that like creating a Runescape 3? 1593th to 99 Farming - July 08.
May 28, 200917 yr Adding a mechanic doesn't have to mean the whole game is changed. The underlying engine will probably still be the same. Twitter ||| Google+ ||| Facebook ||| LinkedIn ||| My very interesting weblog about science
May 28, 200917 yr I love these interviews, they really have some interesting information. I wonder what this new skill/game play mechanic will be. I'm glad they've fit it into Runescape rather than creating a whole new MMOG. They'll have there hands full when Mechscape comes out anyways. Can't wait until Friday now. : Pyramid Plunder Guide Tip.it Forum Rules Adventurer's LogThanks to Cowboy14 for the awesome sig!
May 29, 200917 yr *The numbers are ficitional. I only made some up to prove my point. **To WoW fans: What I said about WoW is what I have heard/read/seen. Not in any way am I saying that that is fact. How do you prove a point with statistics that are made up? From what you've "heard/read/seen" how much of that is the opinion and not actually facts from other players? Come on now, you can't just throw out attacks with no base. No I don't play WoW.
May 29, 200917 yr Ok, I find this very weird. A Jagex CEO giving out personal information about a player. Age, nationality and hours played. Isn't that totally against their policy? I mean, I don't mind, but it's contradictory. Interesting read though. That struck me as odd as well, maybe she gave consent? Yes, probably. But still, it's quite odd. And they'd have to ask her for her age and her gender, because you can't extract those two parameters from a database. Odd thing to include. Did you think she might have a blog or log somewhere, a "huge" player probably has one of those somewhere that has her age/sex. My Gamercard | Click for Blog | Mining Guide | Illumination
May 29, 200917 yr Could be, but would Jagex just take that information and post it openly in an interview? I think not. Twitter ||| Google+ ||| Facebook ||| LinkedIn ||| My very interesting weblog about science

I just wanted to give the reader a view of how WoW isn't so much different from what RS was/is. The statistics are fictional and they don't have to be fact to prove a point. Yes, without the made up numbers you would get a better comparsion with WoW as I would only bring up what kind of users WoW consist of. I can agree that I made a misstake when including those numbers and I'm not attacking WoW. I was simply posting what I know about WoW. I could post in every post I make that this post is what I think, it's my opinion. I thought I did when I said "Not in any way am I saying that that is fact" meaning that I am not using facts, I'm just expressing my opinion on how Blizzard is marketing their game and taking care of their games image and Jagex is not, while there is not much difference between WoW and RS. This post consists entirely of my opinions. (Could possibly be shared with others.)
May 29, 200917 yr I like this guy, almost as much as I like the Dunkin Donuts girl that gives me twice the amount of donuts and munchkins that I pay for. This just goes to show that you actually put technological experts into a position of power in a technological company (i.e. gaming) rather than the idiot who helps them pay for it (Iddison was that paypal guy, right?). This guy is even a better salesman than the old guy, and that was his job! Currently will be using my Oni Tsurugi account to attempt to get 99 on all free skills without spending any gp, just for the sake of doing so.
May 29, 200917 yr We are actually working on a whole new game mechanic. I can't give much away, but it could be an entire game in its own right, or just a skill, or both, who knows [laughs]. That will be for free and members. But, yeah, that should be this year hopefully, needs to be awesome though. I don't want to give it away though because it's really exciting and no one has done it so we're kind of keeping that one close to our chest. I'm really looking forward to this. In addition, I really like MMG. He shows sincere interest in the game and can relate to players well. Thanks to Uno for the awsome sig <3
