Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior

plot: 3/10

script: 2/10 (assuming the subtitles were accurate)

Tony Jaa: 17.5/10

so it averages out to be a 7.5/10, completely due to the awesomeness that is Tony Jaa.

Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

It's what you'd expect out of a Will Ferrell Movie. Got a few laughs.

"If you don't chew Big Red, [bleep] you."

That's one of his funniest movies.

I still lol when I remember the crash scenes (save me Tom Cruise) and the dinner scene (dear Baby Jesus)

Whenever they're all praying is really funny. I liked the part where they talk about the different versions of Jesus, and how Christmas Jesus is Ricky's favorite to pray to. "Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' in your manger, watchin' your developmental Baby Einstein videos...." Something like that.

Just finished watching Donnie Darko. Long, dark, and creepy. Will confuse the [bleep] outta you.

Best movie I've seen in a while.

It was my favourite movie for a long time. It is great the first few times, but after all the confusion is cleared and you watch it knowing everything that is going on then you catch all the stuff that isn't so great.

Oh I just remembered the best part. When Ricky Bobby sticks a knife in his leg and then his friend uses another knife to get it out

watched the unborn, was rubbish. few jumpy moments like.

I'm looking to put a Monty Python movie into my Netflix queue simply because my friends talk about it all the time. I haven't watched any Monty Python before in my life. Any suggestion which movie is good to start out with? :P

Life of Brian or Holy Grail. Holy Grail probably eases the transition to 70's British humor.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Alright, added Holy Grail. ::'

Watched "Race to Witch Mountain" today

Was rather disappointing. It's too kiddish and has a really wierd storyline but has one or two good comedy lines. Wrestling fans that are interested in seeing The Rock will not appreciate this movie as he merely does like 6 punches and a spear. Overall, I give this movie a 4/10. Also, the fact that I slept during the midst of the movie (Friend woke me up soon later) dosen't help.

Gran Torino....Great film, could find nothing to fault with it. Clint's swan song is a good one

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Well, it sort of bored me. It was long and not very 'structured'. The idea exhausted its novelty about 15 minutes into the film, the rest was more or less predictable.

Restul e tacere (The Rest is Silence): This was a movie that I kept thinking about after I finished watching it, and I wanted to discuss it with people / read about it. Which can only mean it was kinda good. It's about the making of an 'epic' movie back when the cinema was at its 'beginnings' and people had mixed feelings about it. The 19 year old son of a famous theatre actor (who thinks his kid is better off sweeping streets than working in film business) has a grand idea of making a movie about the war of independence; of course he needs a lot of money for this and tricks an eccentric merchant to sponsor him. That would be the starting point of the movie in a nutshell. After a little research, I found out (what I should have known before, had I any knowledge of cinema culture), that the characters and main events were actually real, so this movie was a sort of documentary, taking some artistic license at times. Anyway, it was clever and funny, with plenty of underlying meanings and beautiful directing. I'm usually hesitant to recommend 'local' movies to foreigners because of 'in-jokes' or 'background knowledge' or whatever. I'm kinda hesitant to recommend this one too, actually, even though it's more 'universal' imo. Just saying I really liked it.

Slumdog Millionaire

Now that I think of it & think about all the stuff I've seen, it's probably the best movie I've seen in my entire life. From an artistic point of view it's also nearly 100% perfect.

If you don't understand different cultures or realities other people have to live in, you might find it weird or boring though.

Couldn't have seen a more worse "horror" movie... Hold that thought, I have seen worse (Silent Night Deadly Night 4 anyone?)

Most of Choke. It got a little boring. Still a good movie though, it was probably only boring because it was almost six in the morning. Pretty interesting idea.

The Tall T, Decision at Sundown, Buchanan Rides Alone, Ride Lonesome

Almost trough my Budd Boetticher box, and I am very enthusiastic about these movies. Budd really excels in efficiency. His movies are very short (generally not longer than 75 minutes), but in those seventy minutes he manages to present us some pretty complex relationships between the characters. Not a second of these movies is wasted. My two favorites so far have been The Tall T and Ride Lonesome. Both westerns have got a very broody atmosphere. The Tall T has got an excellent 'bad guy', Richard Boone is so great in this role, and Randolph Scott, man you don't want to enter his space, what a guy. His homosexuality only makes it more interesting. Ride Lonesome is the first widescreen Boetticher, and the compositions are really something to drool over, the shoot-out at the end of the movie was superb, and the closing shots is one of the best ever. It made me think that there are so much good endings in classic Hollywood films, especially compared with the movies today (Revolutionary Road, which I saw yesterday is a good example of how not to end your movie) Also a lot of sexuality in this picture, Karen Steele is a pretty sexy momma, and they really know how to use those curves. ;) And of course Randolph Scott, the invincible.

I'm quite surprised by the image quality of these films. Budd Boetticher has been overlooked a lot, and this is the first time his movies are on DVD (with exception of Seven Men From Now I think), and especially Ride Lonesome was incredibly clean. One movie to go, but I also received a new box with two extra Boetticher movies. Anyway. I really recommend this box, it's a must for western lovers. You can read more about the DVD release here.

I saw that on Sci-Fi once. I kind of liked it.

Eagle Eye. This movie reminded me of Portal so much... the computer even warms up the proverbial neurotoxin emitters.

Metal: A Headbangers Journey (B+)

I thought it was well-done not because I like metal, but it answered some questions I had about the genre in general.

I started watching Scrubs because they started showing the first season. I started DL'ing it though cause I'm too tired to stay up at 3:00 to watch it nightly. Funny show.

Read and watched Watchmen. The comic book was amazing. The movie was dreadful. Poor acting and bad music choices made the film not as enjoyable as it could have been. Interesting how the comic book has characters who aren't black and white, but the movie is filled with those characters. I think the only decent actor was Jackie Earle Haley who played Rorschach. Overall, I'd say a 3/5 because I'm in a good mood.

Rated -12 in France, apparently. Heh. Or 13+ in Quebec.

I watched some of The Science of Sleep. Another late-night movie, so I can't even really remember what happened. I do remember a unicorn, though.

Jeff Keen - GAZWRX Early 16 MM films.

Fantastic. There's so much happening that it's impossible to see everything with watching this one time. It has got everything from creation to destruction and everything in between. At an incredibly high speed they fire all sort of things at you: comics, collages, the same collages destructed, pieces of film put over eachother, paint sprayed all over it, and that's only the beginning. There's so much in these movies, you don't know where to watch. Somebody said that At times it feels (to me) like there's more invention in 24 frames of one of these 8/16mm cut-ups than many filmmakers manage in an entire career., I would say that's about right.

Equilibrium or Fearless, can't remember which

Equilibrium has awesome gun fights, good ol' gun katas, bit of a cult movie lol

Fearless was suppose to be Jet Li's last movie, has the fake flips and stuff but still quite good
