"Over-Hyped" Quests

Featured Replies

I thought the same thing about While Guthix Sleeps. Granted I used a guide and that very well could be why. I was nervous about taking on the two Tormented Demons because of how hyped up the guide made them sound. Once I got there though it was a different story.

Oh well I suppose.

I think Sheep Herder is overhyped.

It's not as annoying or as hard as people say it is.

You know need common sense, which people seem to lack.

It depends on your luck. Many people as in my case, THE DAMN SHEEP FROM HELL KEPT RUNNING AWAY REPEATEDLY and sometimes go around you to get back to where they want to go. So, for many people Sheep Herder is a horrible quest.

I thought it was easy, I actually herded them twice because I messed up with the bodies the first time

If I wanted the sheep to go into the direction i wanted it to, I went 180 degrees to the position it was in. (so for example, if i want it to go North, I prod from south) It worked for me, I don't know now, but yeah..

"Football is a simple game made complicated by people who should know better."

Thats what i'm talking about. The guides made the shadows sound like jad. Keep praying constantly... and safe room... and Energy Potions etc...

Its not that the guides make all the quests easy... I found Desert Treasure to be extremely difficult even with the guide.

One Tip for the quest: Use Guthan's. Shadow's won't be much of a problem.

I did the same, was bloody annoying thou.

I'm fairly sure they changed the sheep to be a bit easier recently, but it was a good 2 - 3 yrs ago now I did that quest and it was AWEFUL.

They'd go the way you prodded, but before you could then run up to them again they charge off, more often than not, away from the goal and back towards their start point.

Yet another reason to not use guides.

Seriously, Quests without a guide are much more fun, there won't be any spoilers unless a mean player says it, and the sence of accomplish is bigger. Only advantages.

In my opinion Legends' Quest is over-hyped, it was just simply too easy. I managed to do that demon in Black D'hide. Another over-hyped quest, for me, was Desert Treasure: I'd heard from a lot of friends and fellow Tifs that it was a tough quest, but when the chips were down it wasn't too difficult, but it has been my most enjoyed quest to date, I would gladly do that quest again.

I think alot of quests just depend on when you do them and what gear you have available. I did desert treasure shortly after its release, and had only rune armour with a recently released dds and d long. A the time, the sharks I had to use took a massive chunk of money out of my bank so to me the quest seemed incredibly hard. But if I was to do it again now, it would be a walk over. Quests usually feel harder when you don't know what to expect when you walk through the next door, so usually you are in the wrong gear and end up taking lots of damage.

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

WGS is easier without a guide than MEP2 without a guide; if you're using guides then WGS is a little tougher (a lot less annoying).

WGS is also brilliantly written and fun as hell. Enjoy actually -doing- the quest; it's full of great cut scenes and big surprised.

The Tormented demons were still easy to me. I didn't know what I was going against but I got used to the prayer switching from most of the monsters in the quest so I went back and restocked, and grabbed a bow while I was there. (I didn't have one to save room for the balance elemental) Came back with a full inv of food and pots, didn't use one of them. I thought of bringing darklight and seeing if that had any effect one them but I didn't. Yeah, I did spawn the monsters before I ran out to restock...

Ah, remember fighting the Slagalith. Had some blue d'hide for nominal protection in around the ogres.... had some cakes because I'd just stolen 2k of them. Ended up just kicking it in the gravels. Fun stuff.

MEP2 was HELL for me. I expected it to be overhyped, like underground pass, but of course it turned out to be the most difficult quest I have ever done.

Underground pass I actually enjoyed, despite being terrified when I started it. Hell, I can openly say Underground Pass was one of my favourite quests.

That's why you're on the TZDF blackdawn. Even your balls can tear zombies to shreds.

I did WGS today with a guide, I can't imagine that without one.

Most quests are told to be harder than they really are. It must be some sort of rule of thumb or something.

I learned that with Desert Treasure. One of the hardest but most rewarded quests out there ('least at the time I played it). It was challenging at some parts, yes, but it wasn't as "hard" as Guides tell them to be.

If a guide says a quest is 4/5 difficulty, it really is 3/5; that's MY rule of thumb.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

siggy3s.jpg

Personally for me, using a guide lets me concentrate more on the plot and humour in the quest.

And MEP2 is one of the few quests that's considered to be hard even with a guide (at least to me). Underground Pass too, maybe.

Haven't done WGS, I'm currently building up the reqs for it.

Barrows items: 2 Verac's helms, 1 Dhorak's Greataxe, 1 Dhorak's platelegs, 2 Karil's leathertops, 1 Karil's crossbow, 1 Guthan's chainskirt

Quest cape achieved 28 Dec, 2009, lost with Nomad's Requiem, re-obtained on 19 Mar 2010.

Fire cape achieved 1 Nov 2010.

I'd have to say Legends for sure. When I did that quest I was expecting an challenge, but I ended up blowing through it easy as pie.

as said before you should see the quests in perspective: when legends came out (back in rsc I believe) we didn't even have "barrows", or anything like that -so it was one of the most difficult quests!

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I've always found that MEP1, MEP2, WGS, DT and Legend's were given the hardest hypes. When I actually went to do them, I saw it different.

MEP1 - Pretty easy, just a lot of teleporting

MEP2 - Difficult, and can be a pain for those of us who are cheap, but is easy, though long

WGS - Long, but relatively easy. Didnt actually require too much planning for it to start with

DT - This was as easy as hell. I didnt even understand why people thought it was hard.

Legend's - Long, but easy

Guess it depends on how you precieve things. If you look at something long and see it as big, sure youre going to think its hard. Otherwise, you might see it easier than it really is.

I've never used a guide, and I've found that none of the quests were "hard" for me.

Every time I see someone complaining about a quest, I just want to slap them, especially since plenty of things have been added since I've done them that would make them easier. :|

MEP II took me 9 hours without a guide. I failed the handholds 35 times in a row. 10 trips to bank. It was pretty difficult.

MstrMonopoly.png

I piety the fool.

You're level 104 and you used a guide. When you wait until you're that strong to do a quest, yeah, it's going to be fairly easy in comparison.

Well this makes me not want to finish the series now :XD:

The hardest quest i've done was.... regicide or underground pass (elf quest line ftw?) Most because the epic agility obsticals that take 10 minutes to recover from.

Those stick traps mess you up pretty bad :wall:

arcane_stew.png

Hypocrite. You tell others to be nice then attempt to murder people. Nice going, you just failed life.

Jagex really should be turning up the quest difficulty, and I don't mean in puzzle solving. More like monster killing, skill requirements, things like that. There's already tons of players with huge skills, so it's not difficult for every Runescape player to achieve a quest cape. I'd like to see it become more of a rare, balanced thing.

For instance, imagine a quest requirement of 80+ all stats, that's something I'd have to work on, and am sure it would be worthwhile and to a somewhat elite group of finishers. To me, the quest cape is an icon of all around balance, and the later quests should reflect that.

Proper Daily blogging including Starcraft 2!

Includes goal for 80+ all stats

MEP2 was the hardest quest ever. The puzzles are complicated and if you do it without a guide your brain will explode. I remember it took me 7 hours with a guide to do

You will remember this signature at a very wierd time.

PS. you lost the game.
