Fire cape compromise. New post by Mod Chris L.

Playing RuneScape is optional, too. Why not just stop playing?

Because there are no difficult-to-obtain requirements to play it.

With the Strykewyrms, you can pretend the ice ones don't exist if you don't have the cape.

Why should people who got a lucky drop at dragons get a good sheild?

There are so many things in the game that require money or luck/skill, why is it so horrible that ONE monster in the game requires an item that needs skill and luck to obtain to fight?

Plus, people often seem to be displeased with how little skill the game needs. So, as soon as we get an update that needs it?

There is much complaining about the requirement.

Maybe they aren't the same people, but...

One more thing:

Ice Strykewyrms are a PRIVELEGE for people who EARNED the right.

If you jump into a river in Paris, you're insane. If you jump into a river in Egypt, you're in denial.

Not to mention if all you want to kill them for is the staff the only thing you have to do is farm wergali for 1-2 days.... That's how I got mine lol figured it would be faster then either:

A: gathering about 60m cash and buying it with junk

B: getting 93 slayer and a fire cape and hoping for a task

Explain how this wergali trick works...

I've been trying my damnest to get a staff, and merchants are being extremely fickle.

How much did it cost you, by the way, and how many potions did it take to buy one?

Could not agree with this more.

While we get rid of the Fire Cape requirement let's also throw away the need to do hard quests so we can access everywhere because it's unfair to the people with bad internet and they can't fight boss monsters.

all quest boss monsters are easy on laggy computers because they have no ko potential so if you lag out it shouldn't be a problem at least for a short while. while jad is the one exception where if you lag your dead. The only exception to this is nomad but he is predictable, even if you lag you still have to time to predict his attacks and is only a matter of trial and error until you find something that works, ie hiding behind pillar early ect.

You just can't compare quests to jad.

I haven't read most of the argument, or fought strykewyrms but one thing I've thought about in the time I have read this argument. If you don't have a good enough connection to fight jad, or the reflexes, how are you going to be able to fight strkewyrms, especially ice ones?

This feels exceptional on my under-carriage.

So... taking out the Barrelchest... it didn't have ko potential? ...even if it was doing half my hp in damage every swing at the time?

Or the inadaquacy, that takes some good effort to even run from, and you must save food for that?

Or Nomad, who could 1hit me currently?

Thats actually a great point; I'd love to watch people claiming to have bad connections now avoid the tunnel attacks while they're meleeing them.

forgot about barrel chest but if u bring torags hes not that bad. or if u manage to trap him couldn't kill you at all.

i don't actually remember much of the lunar quests but i don't think it was to bad

And nomad is a challenge but if you keep at it you will notice patterns when to hide behind the pilar what equipment works best and he has nothing that hits over 30 besides his hp lv -1 attack but with that he gives you plenty of warning to heal up.

those compared to jad which can hit over 90 on every attack are childs play. And will all quests u can learn which equipment works best ect, with jad its just hoping you don't lag.

Because some slayers might use their head instead of just wacking away with a gs all day.

they might notice something. Such as a way to stop them from actually ever using their special attack.

I'll let u high and mighty people with high speed figure it out for urself.

heres a hint though. if you watch tremors its not that hard to figure out.

Jad won't hit constant 90s unless you completely fail at prayer switching. Nomad's attacks are unblockable.

Really though, Jad and Nomad are two completely different brands of challenge so I don't think that they're even comparable. Personally I found Nomad a lot harder, but someone else might find Jad harder because they have the reflexes of a snail (no offense :-P).

Nomad is thought to be a lot harder then Jad (and he actually is). the reason might be is that Nomad is accessible to a fewer players because Nomad's unblockable attacks will kill most players (GF PURES) and the inability to safespot him.

As for me, Jad only took 2 tries (and i had a bad chance of killing him since my computer was laggy) but Nomad took well over 4 tries.

Everyone supporting the Firecape requirement should really just stfu. An optionable minigame reward should NOT be a requirement for a skill, and that's the bottom line. Especially a minigame that's existed for (four?) years....

How about we make it so 93 Slayer is required to use the Firecape? Sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

The irony is delicious...since Jagex already made fire capes to be a requirement, then everyone should STFU as you so eloquently put it. I mean if the creators of the game IMPLEMENTED it in the game, then it should stick. I agree if they had not already implemented it then it would have been weird to mix minigames in with slayer.

So you just unquestionably follow what those in charge tell you, even if it is disputed by many?

Biggest difference: No hour+ repetitive killing between attempts at nomad.

(GF PURES) and his wide variety of attacks requires more strategy then just pressing two buttons and luring 4 enemies.

It depends on the person really. I found nomad to be easier simply because hes so predictable and you can prepare for his attacks while jad its just lag and die.

I don't understand why the same people aren't complaining about dying to the higher level slayer monsters when they disconnect. Same concept, really. You don't even need to have the greatest connection in the world to beat Jad, and chances are if your connection is that serious of a problem during the Fight Caves then you'll have died a couple times from disconnects (at least before they made the game SafeScape). Heaven forbid that a monster at level 93 slayer might be hard to kill (in this case, you must only defeat one hard monster to kill them easily for eternity).

There are 37,412 people with a high enough Slayer level to kill Ice Strykewyrms. I cannot find anything wrong with Jagex wanting to cut down that number.

As for a compromise, these monsters NEED to remain killable only on task. I guess I would support accepting a firemaking skillcape as a substitute, seeing as it is a boring, if quick, alternative. Other than that, if you can kill them on task with a bought ability, damage dealt without a firecape should be hugely cut down - maybe killing them half as fast as those with a fire cape. That way you can still fight them for your precious staves but it will not be efficient.

Your wrong. It's only 17k people. Of those that still play, probably 12k or so.

Wild pies.

Pie up right as you're about to get a task. Then pie up again to kill them. Also doable with only 87 slayer but that would be impractical stewing.

If you think this is insignificant, you weren't around to see all the whip drops when wild pies first came out. Especially if this thing keeps going up in street price, expect an influx.

Let's not make up numbers, by the way - I'd be more of the opinion that most high level slayers are active, especially with a rare and expensive new drop.

Pieing to get a task above your own Slayer level? Have you ever trained the skill?

Your comparing apples to oranges.

Gamers idenified a problem. Jagex took action and corrected it.

They listen to the people that pay their salary.

I disagree. I don't believe there was a problem to begin with, to be honest.

Ice strykewyrms are a single new type of Slayer monster; no matter how you look at it, the ability to fight them is in no way significantly game-changing. Strykewyrms can only be assigned once players have fulfilled the requirements (so it isn't as if people are being futilely assigned tasks they cannot complete), and their specialty drop is tradeable (so players don't necessarily have to slay the wyrms to obtain an SoL). Because of this, I can see no reason why this situation is noteworthy, let alone a "problem" to be "fixed". Simply put, you aren't missing out on too much if you can't fight the new Slayer monster.

And yes, Jagex are more or less obligated to listen to their players when problems arise, but was this really a problem? Can you tell me so, in all seriousness?

I'll be completely honest: the "solution" will ultimately cause far more problems than it supposedly "solved". Again, I don't particularly care about the Fire cape requirement issue itself. I believe the actual problem is that the mindless ranting on the RSOF actually accomplished something; with every victory, as the ranters see it, they grow more bold. You can expect for more and more players to start bitterly complaining after every update now, whether there's a legitimate issue with the content or not. There are clearly results to be had, so long as enough players band together to rant for them, and it appears that Jagex will only become more compliant as this wears on.

It's truly a slippery slope we've come to. If this continues, who knows what will happen in the future?

Oh please..

You're acting if Jagex changes every update because a lot of players complain.

If that happened, then we'd have Old PC, Wildy and Free Trade.

Every update? Certainly not. However, now that Jagex has bowed to the pressure once, you can expect for there to be that many more rants over future updates with difficult requirements. In Jagex's case, it becomes easier to simply give the complainers what they want (rather than fighting/ignoring them) after giving in once before, so there will undoubtably be more nerfs of this sort in the future. This is what worries me.

If you give the mindless RSOF mob of ranters an inch, they'll take a mile.

+1

In fact Nomad announces his attack for several seconds in advance. Even I can click on the proper prayer then without panicking.

After the initial reaction to this update the "rants" on the Recent Updates forum settled down into reasoned arguement. This wasn't another Torso incident where brainless PK'ers created spam topics every minute demanding it be changed back. People actually put thought into their discussions.

I think in this case because high level slayers have been waiting a very long time for a 90+ monster that it wasn't wise to stick on another requirement ontop of this. 93 Slayer takes a fair old chunk of time to get to, shouldn't that be reward enough without HAVING to play (and complete) a minigame to access the content?

Wow this is just dumb, dumb dumb dumb. I mean if anything Jad should be made harder if you ask me. I've seen a level 70 with a firecape and you're telling me that its too hard?

Please read through the whole topic, it's not at all because Jad is "difficult."

This is not the first time they've answered peoples cries. And I certainly don't see it as a bad thing that they are, they're listening. So what if there's rants against this update, but they're doing it for the better of the game in the long run. This isn't going to make them more profit or anything.
