Item Duping

Forgive me if topics like this are not allowed/Another topic on this subject has already been made!

Anyways, I'm sure some have heard but for those who haven't; The recent bug that was patched allowed players to essentially turn one Dragon Bolt (Unenchanted) into 12 Dragon Bolts (e). Not only was this process simple to do, but also fast. Mass production of these bolts led to the (obvious?) devaulation of dragon bolts, while also causing massive amounts of wealth to be created within the game. Funny thing is, I would have never known this bug even happened if someone hadn't told me. It seems the news of this is well... lacking? A video of the bug can be found here

So, what might this bug have effected, and for how long? And whats the status on the players which have abused this bug? (I've heard some people made A LOT)

Discuss :P

From what i hear, it was discovered 2 days ago and became well known yesterday. So it lasted 24 hours being mass abused. Yes it was super fast and super easy to do. I have read some topics about this and I heard of several players with over 1B worth of enchanted bolts that they made. I can see Jagex doing quite well as far as the banning go (heard of someone banned already who only made 2m worth). The question still remains, will Jagex intervene in the price of the enchanted bolts? Or will they just let the crash take it's course? With the main perpetrators banned the millions of bolts won't make it into the GE so the crash won't be too far.

No one knows yet if the glitch was there pre-update or if the update somehow caused it. I suspect it's been there for a long time but the recent dropping of dbolts by the new implings spurred some hunters to enchant their bolts and then they found it through that.

I think we learned what Jagex does about stuff like this when the Pink Phat dupe happened. Most likely, they will just let the price flow how it is going to flow.

Quote and inappropriate reply removed.

Anywho. It seems Jagex is staying awfully quiet on this. J-mods haven't really posted much, except locking threads saying they're "looking into it".

I wonder if they'll make a sticky announcing how many people have been banned.

The bug is now fixed, and unless another Moderator or Administrator decides otherwise this topic will remain open.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

Since this was a pretty well known bug and was widely abused, I wouldnt be surprised that more than 1billion d bolts was created in this time frame. Assuming Jagex is able to catch 90% of all the abusers, that leaves about 100million d bolts in the market. This will easily cause d bolts to crash to about 1k each. Here is where it gets tricky. If d bolts crash that low, diamond bolts and other high classed bolts/range ammo would go down with it. No one would be interested in range ammos such as onyx or diamond or ruby even if dragon bolts prices became cheap. This would cause a widespread collapse in the entire upper tier range ammo market. Those would leak to the entire range ammo market causing nearly all range ammos to crash. Now if we look at the effect even wider, the gem/bars market must also be affected. People originally training smithing using bars to make into bolts would stop buying the bars as bolts would no longer sell. Magic trainers using cosmic amongst other runes to enchant bolts would stop purchasing those runes. Gems used to create enchanted bolts would also fall in price due to wide demand collapse (dragonstone and onyx might be excluded due to other uses).

My point, I don't see how the market cant get cabbaged unless Jagex does a rollback. (Which would make me very unhappy as I got 4 out of my total of 6 d bow drops today :'( )

It's too late for a rollback. I'm just hoping that Jagex bans most of the accounts before they sold... to bad they didn't. Anyone else watch the fletching forum explode with people selling(and buying) d-bolts. And there was a lot of takers, the economy be damned (as if it wasn't already).

In truth, the people who knew about the glich and helped the glichers get the bolts into the economy (because if it had been just up the the G.E. only so many would have sold and most to people who had planned to use them) are partly to blame for whatever economic chaos results. But there is no way to tell the people that geniunely were bying the bolts so I wouldn't expect anything to happen on that end. At least bolts are a consumable, and *eventually* the excess will leave the game.

Ah well, I'll just continue my policy of ignoring RS economy as much as possible. May the ban-hammer fall hard but fairly.

1. It wasn't fake. I even have a short .avi file with it showing how it's done.

2. It could be done with any bolt, not just dragon bolts, they are more common then Onyx bolt and more expensive then Diamond bolts so they were the main target.

3. If you still believe it was fake. Just go to the Fletching subforum on rsof, a few pages back you will see a big amount of hidden threads. These are all the threads where people would sell the bolts.

Lots of the people in the fletching forum were just trolling though. When people posted they would either reply saying "lol" or "i meant 430k worth of bolts = (70 bolts)"

 Do people not realize that they're begging to be ban-hammered?

Goodness, that's 3b worth of bolts...

Like I said, the fletching forum exploded, one person claimed to have a billion bolts. And before the thread got closed, he said he had already sold some.

I would like to second Krampell's post it was other bolts as well.

There was a large amount of diamond (e) and onyx (e) also made as the RSOF fletching forum proved about 1 hour before the bug was fixed.

Has Jagex really been handing out bans?

I know of 2 people who have posted conclusive evidence that they used the dupe, but haven't been banned.
