The way it should be:

You finish the Varrock Statue for the 30th time. It finally sticks together, yet you notice it seems to be slightly incomplete.

The pet rock in your inventory begins vibrating wildly.

On a hunch, you add it to the Varrock Statue.

Dahmaroc comes to life and steps off the plinth, in a moment straight out of Greek mythology.

He goes off to live his newfound life, leaving the Varrock museum with an empty plinth and you with a completed replica.

You sell them your replica for a goodly sum of money, and get to build your own copy again for 30 more weeks.

I get a mention in the Knowledge Base for inspiring the final reward.

I would like it if we could at least feel like we saved Dahmaroc. I support the idea of a purely cosmetic update, but I'd feel like I accomplished something if I did more than do nothing but give him a taste of life before he explodes again.

Hi

Regarding where and how to obtain the various stones, then i recall to have read (i can't remember where though !) that people should try to get them in places where they would be found "naturally" - ie. while fishing with a net or a lobster pot or behind a low wall (agility) or while doing some farming or mining some ore - i think we can all agree that there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of them - one could actually be lucky enough to find a stone in one of those places.

Well, that makes perfectly sense to me and i went a long with that until sat down and thought the rest of the "concept" through and this is where it all goes so WRONG !

Let me give you a few examples:

1. You cook a nice little fish and you were looking forward to a nice dinner when all of a sudden the fish turn into a stone ! (you look in the cookbook once more to ensure yourself that you DID follow the recipe !)

2. You happily stringing a few bows when all of sudden one of them turns into a stone !

By now i think you all get the picture.

What is it that i'm trying to say (a "few" of you might ask...) - well, i think that Jagex has really shot themselves in the foot (or is it feet ?), because how will they justify that only some actions will yield a stone ?

Why can't i get a stone while cooking a potato or while crafting tiaras ? :wall:

They can hardly use the argument that it is not natural, because having a fish turn into a stone while you cook it is not natural either ! :shame:

The bottom line is that i think players should be able to obtain the stones while doing any of the actions that is possible under the various skill.

What does the rest of you think ?

Yeah, I was a bit miffed about a yew long turning into a rock. I was intending to high alch it. >_<; (I did have an empty spot open. It filled and the second one came along before I could stop cutting and store the one I'd gotten.)

What could be the reason for only getting rocks when NOT in building mode ?

It doesnt really make sense, does it ?

Would it be harder to code / easier to let bugs slip in ?

You can't drop things in building mode ;) Would be weird to create drops in a building mode. Requires WAYYYYYYYYY to much re-coding, which in construction is already complicated enough.

You guys really gonna complain about losing 437gp in favor of several thousand exp?

Seriously if you're really that cheap just turn the rocks off at varrock museum.

Mod Maz posted more info about the reward of compliting the statue

Quick find code: 15-16-169-60593562 Page 22

[Hide=Warning Spoiler]It's listed as a D&D in the manual cause there isn't a "skill update" section.

Up till now I've not been able to give a simple answer on this topic as there wasn't one.

***Spoiler alert (highlight to read)***

I have been in discussion with Mod Mark (the co-designer on the project) as to whether it should be more than just a cosmetic reward and we have been exchanging ideas.

The conclusion is that by giving anything more than a cosmetic reward we would then be forcing people into doing this activity and thereby encouraging gameplay that we were not aiming for (the active hunting of rocks rather than just stumbling upon them). Therefore the statue will remain cosmetic only.

There remains the reward of the XP that you gain purely by training the skills and gaining the rocks and I will continue to strive to improve this aspect of the update.

***Spoiler alert over***

Aww... Dang! Those silly stones/rocks is what I looked forward to doing every week. ( No word of a lie ) I actually enjoyed collecting them, it gave me something to do and to be honest I was HOPING we would get a sweet reward at the end.

Oh well.... I guess I will keep collecting them while I wait for the new skill to show. Seeing that I have NO desire to go for 200 mil exp in any sort of skill thats just to boring for me !!

Reading that makes me feel very depressed. Poor Runescape character :(

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Are people already working on their 4th statue or still on their 3rd?

Someone in the Shattered Heart sticky reports that his 4th will be done on Thursday.

Makes sense to me, it does seem kind of random sometimes, although when you think of it as rare drops for skillers, it makes a lot more sense.
