I'm not believing anybody's claims until I see hard proof that somebody has paid just for the banner and plans to get rid of the ticket instead of using it.

Or bought the ticket, decided they didn't want the banner & sold the code for mad money?

The banner is fairly plain, the image of it leaked from the RSMV had 2010 written on it, but the actual one doesnt. How about Jagex just release the same flag for each Runefest event they do wherever it may be in the world and it just has different text when you read it??

Cool idea. Takes away some of its 'discontinued' status.

+ remove it from the toy box like suggested

If you had to grind for 125 hours in some new skill called "Flagstaffing" to get this thing, would that mean anyone who did it was insane?

How is paying $125 for a worthless staff any more insane than spending hundreds of hours to get a worthless hat? Unless you think time has no value at all?

I think anyone whos willing to spend $125 on a item that offers no benefit, and is there just to look cool and realistically wont be used often except when your standing around showing off DOES need to get some counselling.

I mean no one should spend that much money on a worthless item, especially if it brings no benefit. If someone needs to show off in a game, it probably says that there i something wrong with their life outside the game, that or they are extremely addicted not to the game but to the attention they get in the game.

You didn't answer the question.

If I posted on a thread where someone was talking about spending months grinding to get 200 million XP in a skill, or to get a party hat, saying that I thought they needed to get counselling, everyone would flame me to a crisp.

How is spending a lot of money on a worthless item any different than spending a lot of time on a worthless item or a meaningless "achievement"?

I guess this is an illustration of how few people understand that time and money are pretty much interchangeable (which explains why people do pointless things like getting 200 million in a skill in the first place).

If this item were achieved by spending 250 hours grinding in a minigame instead of paying $125 cash, there would be thousands of players who had it within a month or two. Yet most of those same players would scoff at paying the cash just like people here are, not realizing that they are implying that the value of their time is less than 50 cents an hour.

There are people who spend hundreds, thousands or even millions of dollars to collect all sort of things that most people find silly: stamps, coins, artwork, furniture, baseball cards, baseball bats, cars, trucks, flowering bulbs -- you name it. What's the difference? Heck, I think blowing $125 on an e-trinket is silly too, but not as stupid as blowing $125 on getting drunk in a bar, which many people do on a regular basis.

That way the item becomes available to anyone that wants to go to a Runefest/Jagex event irl wherever it may be in the world. Everyone gets the same looking item it just displays some different text on read or examine.

Remove it also from the toybox and instead give it the ability to be planted perminantly in a player owned house, like a wintumber tree.

Are you really ignorant enough to believe that real world money doesn't affect your status in Runescape? People with real world money often have fewer obligations, and thus more time to play. More play time generally equates to being a better player, in a game that favors grinding over anything else (besides possibly luck). People with real world money can afford better equipment. This can mean anything from being able to enjoy the highest detail settings to being able to purchase high quality gaming mouses to having faster and thus less laggy internet. People with real world money can visit any number of shady websites and purchase Runescape items and gold because of the poor pricing system and the abomination we call the Grand Exchange, and repeatedly go free despite the rules.

People with real world money already have a huge advantage that Jagex has been tolerant of. Comparably, a flag that, once again, is a gift that Jagex is not obligated to provide in exchange for the money you paid for the ticket to Runefest can hardly account for anything.

Not really on topic, but I disagree. Most people who make a lot of money are busy enough with their work and social network. Not sure if it's the same with gaming, but people without jobs are the ones who watch television the most. Im quite sure I've read somewhere that people who really don't make that much money, are the ones that are most likely to spend the few money they have on a big car or big television. Just to make you "look rich". That's why I'm quite sure that people who can play 12h a day AREN'T succesful working people, but more the people that have no job, or the ones with a non demanding 6h/day job (i.e. , you can go home and play RS all day).

I'd consider buying it if I had the money, but I don't so best I could offer anyone would be like 25m and I doubt that would be enough for a hundred dollar item.

I've seen that offer on RS-forums and unless the poster isn't telling the truth, he got several for 25m each.

I won't outbid you so my offer is 25m too, pm is open...

Well, strictly speaking: 25m is an ingame item, so is the banner, no real world stuff included in this trade... :^_^:

(it is a trust trade though, which is also forbidden :wall: )

This banner DOESN'T do ANYTHING.

Why would you mind not having it that much?

So is the bunny ears, or the scythe. Would the players who have them mind if Jagex give them out again? It's just a cosmetic item.

The answer is yes, by the way. a difference is a difference.

Bunny ears and scythe show longevity. Flag shows fiscal naivety (or affluence if you happen to have some money to burn, yet still nothing game-related)

All skills 70+

Trails: 2 x Rune platebody (g)

Barrows: 1 x Dharok's legs

Drops: 1 x Dragon skirt | 1 x Dragon defender

You can make up things all you want. For example, I can say that a Flag shows dedication to the game, since the person went to an IRL event for the game.

Either way, you're argument is completely subjective and pointless.

Buying a ticket to RuneFest will entitle you to an exclusive free RuneScape item! This item will never be made available again, so the only way to get it is to make sure you get a ticket to RuneFest. The RuneFest Flag is a prestige item that players will be able to plant in the ground to show off - a feature that no other item in the game shares - as well as having lots of features like the ability to set off fireworks, sound triumphal horns, and loads more! You'll be able to collect this item before RuneFest itself, and it will continue to improve in the run-up to the event.

Got it from 15-16-448-60939554. True or faked?

If true, the flag really DOES something...

Well currently its possible to plant in the ground, shoot out fireworks when someone reads it while its in the ground, and it plays off music when read (atleast by the owner).

Also possible to find it on the world map if its planted and call it to you from anywhere by clicking call on the one in your inventory.

Thats all ive found at the moment though.

We shouldn't consider this as people "paying" for an item. They're paying to go to RuneFest, the item is just a side benefit. I dount anyone will go just for the banner.

According to this thread, Jagex should not have given this little reward because of a few hardcore nerds that would pay 75 dollars for a purely cosmetic item.

Lol @ some people

Yeah, imagine, "hardcore nerds" that would pay 75 dollars for a purely cosmetic item.

As opposed to, say "hardcore nerds" who would spend the equivalent of 5 years at a full-time job getting a purely cosmetic mention at the top of a hiscores list.

Someone who gets a 99 purely to be on the top highscores IS a nerd. You thought otherwise? Give me a break...

People who get a 99 due to the benefits of getting that level, such as things that actually give you an in-game advantage (whether it be money or unlocks) aren't nerds, because they are doing it for an actual reason.
