Hey Flodder - not sure if you were aware of this, but your WTC build made it to Reddit's gaming frontpage. Congrats!

  • Well I've sorted that one out.     Every time I put my architectural skills to use in Minecraft, I keep thinking how stained glass is not a thing yet. How is it not a thing?

  • Apologies for late reply but I am not very active on tipit and don't play runescape at all anymore.   I have had a few pretty big mod reviews! It kind of blew up and snowballed at some point, most con

Is anyone else black screening a lot or having save files wiped**? Very frustrating when youre trying to make a Tower of Babel esque building

**Somehow even after my saves have been wiped anything I have built is still on the map, but i have no items in my invent, is that suposed to happen?

Raged earlier when it happed while building said tower, started a new one on a new world (well I thought a new world) and went looking for coal, boom, theres my old tower on the other side of the mountain from where I had started the new one at....

That happened to me once a while ago. Was your spawn point the same? Mine got moved about 100/200 blocks when it happened to me.

Yeah, my spawn point is where I had started to build the second tower, never anywhere else.

So heres what ive got so far:

Main Tower:

Church:

Also have a massive mine running under the tower, and I have removed about an eighth from the top of the mountain to the side.

Hooray for colored wool!

Boo 128 height limit!

Yes I used an inventory editor. Just think how many sheep I would have to punch...

I actually made another pixel twice this size, but laid it out on the ground instead of upright. Problem is, you have to go HIGHER than the build limit to see it fully, which involves noclipping. I'm hoping one day notch will at least double the height limit to 256. Bigger files actually don't increase lag much with optimization. There are mods out there which completely change the save format and make loading chunks MUCH, MUCH faster. (only problem is no map editors work with that format )

Jeez... how the hell did you manage to get all the colours right?

I will never do pixel art in minecraft, way too much work even for me to do it in paint.

I haven't played in ages, I need a project. Or I need to plan out what I'm doing with my fortress. Probably that. And I need more gold to make a gilded palace I think. And some obsidian for my panic room/bomb shelter, because what could be more fun than burying a small room to hide in?

Minecraft needs some kind of Extreme or Hell mode. The mobs are vicious, breaking down all types of blocks, and you really fight for your survival at night. Reinforcing your base, filling coffers with food, supply runs, etc during the quiet day. Redstone can be used to rig up explosives when things get too out of hand.

Something similar to the end of "I Am Legend".

Lol, sounds like it might be interesting.

This is a great idea.

It would be especially fun on multiplayer servers working together with other players.

I've thought the same idea, perhaps with different mobs having different abilities to destroy blocks, as though they were using a certain tool like we do. Say zombies are good at breaking down stone and stuff like that and skeletons break down wood, etc. I think for something like that to work well it would require more mob variety though.

And creepers can blow up and destroy anything but obsidian! That'd be a really cool feature to add!

So, I found a surface dungeon right near my spawn. Then, literally ten blocks away, I find a second dungeon in a cave. (The dungeon is ten blocks away, not the cave entrance.)

This distracted me so much I forgot to find coal.

Here:

[hide=The Dungeons]

I put a roof over the surface dungeon so I can have it spawn when I want it to, as I'm planning a cloth heavy project later, I'll want to build a string harvester here.

This second dungeon is very near the first. Where I took this image from, I'd be visible from the hole in the wall in the first image. As it spawns zombies, I can't see much use for it honestly.

As somebody said earlier about doubling the Height limit, what about causing generation along the Z axis? Basically you could keep going deeper and deeper, or you might find a super mountain going hundreds of blocks high.

Makes me picture spawning on what you think is a large continent, and it turns out to be a massive floating island.

That would be the best solution. It would cause more lag, but from what I've seen in the modding section in the way of optimization, I think it's definitely possible to accommodate without causing TOO much lag.

I think Notch himself said they were working on a new larger yet faster file format. Doesn't really bother me with my 1 TB HD. As long as it's faster.

maps are stored in chunks, which are 16x16x128 volumes of blocks. notch would have to move over to a completely different file system to allow you to go higher or lower. I've also heard that there is a problem with terminal velocity if you drop the full height of the map

And my second one which I just started building:

In the end it will become a tower completely made out of sandstone (at least the outside).

Haha, I love the holy tree you got up there.

The underground base/nuclear facility/blah blah thing I was gonna do is a no go. Underground demolition is organized until you hit those pockets of dirt and gravel: it messes your 3x3 zoning routes up. Plus it felt like a big grind to work on it.

So now I'm playing 'legit' survival and it's actually pretty fun. I've made myself an amateur tree house instead of a hole in a mountain, and thinking of making myself an arena large enough to spawn mobs in the night time.

Expanded the Monastery to include a basement with a library, and a dark pit that monsters can spawn in as a reference to Army of Darkness.

Get back here so I can rub your butt.

I just fell 30 blocks and managed to not take any damage with a ridiculously well timed placement of water right below me. I thought I would still take damage since it was only 1 block deep, but I think because I also removed it before I made contact with the ground it took it as me only falling 1 block.

Needless to say, I'm pleased with my reactions.

And then I immediately fell off my staircase and took a half a heart of damage. I give up

How much of an overhang do you need to stop spiders? Is it only 1 block or more?

newsigb.png

99 Attack - Done

Only needs to be a one block overhang, but just be sure to do it all around so there're no gaps a spider could fit through on the off chance it tries to climb up in that exact spot.

Oh, and get used to the sound of spiders repeatedly climbing your walls, falling, and eventually dying. It'll happen constantly.
