This is Runescape, mage and range are there to compliment meelee. :P

Well even Fire Cape gives small bonuses to both. There were always better alternatives though.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Spent quite a bit of time opening up effigies, and ironically, never got random'd when I left heim, despite my xp gains.

 

In total, I gained 11,921,641 XP from all effigy stages + dragonkins. Out of that, 6,493,753 was runecrafting xp.

 

After 99 runecrafting I still had several dozen dragonkins to use on agility, getting me 2 more levels:

Quest is definitely nothing special, very short, not difficult, not that much lore at all. Only really major thing about the update is the effigy change :(.

Effigies not being bankable, essentially FORCING you to use them early (losing a lot of xp) or giving up effigies entirely (again losing a lot of xp).

 

If anything, this update means people will have to get more assists, so it FAVOURS the people who are already able to assist effigies (and they can open their own) while making it harder to catch up for the players behind.

Yeah such a small amount of lore I mean we ONLY learnt that:

The Thzaar were original the Tokhaar and are corrupted by merely living where they do

Dead Thzaar in Tokkul feel pain and thus its quite barbaric.

Tokhaar were created by the Elder Gods to build the mountains of runescape.

The Elder gods are supposed to return some day.

Zamorak was after the power of the Kiln.

 

There is a heck of a lot of lore there just in the Elder God things alone; more than we get in most quests even in the lore heavy series like elves or myreque.

To elaborate:

 

I have 172 effigies banked, update happened ~450k from 99 slayer.

 

Now i cant finish 99 slayer untill:

 

88/92 agil

64/92 rc

91/92 con

72/87 hunter

90/92 smithing

 

And thats relying on a +5 stew boost for most. When I only really enjoy slayer. Now I can't train the skill I enjoy because Ill be throwing away millions of xp untill im FORCED to train something I don't enjoy. I can't save them for later.

 

Now id imagine theres people who arent even close to reaching opening levels. They're at HUGE disadvantage towards maxing because they decided to play in 2012.

That's a pretty good point, but on the other hand, wouldn't you say that most players who would be worried about gaining opening-stages-xp are ones that are probably going for max? In that aspect, it would take the same time in the end if people had to train up to a level to open an effigy stage before they could go MH more, which surely is probably going to be a pain.

 

I mean, assists are always available at 117 heim, so the only downfall I can sense is that people will need to visit more often.

 

Yeah, my original post was a bit biased, but I think everyone will adapt to the new changes pretty quickly.

You can use the power up pad in a Clan Citadel Battlefield for a +10 Agility or +10 summoning boost. It works on effigies.

Lore says:

Powerful beings we already knew are lesser corrupted versions of other beings who are otherwise much the same. They built mountains. This doesn't really mean anything at all other than that there's another power source (Stone of Jas #2 please) and another aeons-old guardian (Dragonkin #2) and another lesser version (Dragons #2). So the cliché is nicely explained.

It doesn't say they were created by the Elder Gods as far as I know.

Tokkul feel pain is a nice touch but hardly relevant to anything at all.

Zamorak was after every source of power, so meh.

 

The only interesting thing about it is the connection with Char, but that isn't explored at all.

Looking forward to seeing someone complete it, I know for a fact I wont even be attempting it until 138 combat.

 

Regarding effigyscape, I can't say it affects me too much. I feel for those who have been relying on them, but tbh people managed before they were here - the rsof topic linked above is worth a read, the J Mods make some good points.

 

Overall good update - hope FPS has improved though.

I have to say that at first I was quite happy at the effigy update, but by now...

 

 

The droprate reducing is VERY GOOD and was long needed. Nothing against other training methods and faster training methods(Hell, I personally use Penguins/Tears/Troll etc...). What I don't agree with is having a training method that's actually comparable to training the skill which has *nothing* to do with the skill itself. Runecrafting has become "effigyskill" and that's what i can't stand at all about effigies.

 

 

 

However, preventing you from having more than 5....I don't really see the point. It punishes those players who wanted to get those levels themselves by hard work. It also puts a lot more strain on the assist system. I hope they will change this tbh, even if I am not personally affected.
