It's that simple? You don't have to go through an order confirmation screen or anything? You literally just have to press a buttion?

Wouldn't they lose MASSIVE amounts of money in charge-back fees from the parents who the CC belongs to?

Ummm....at Runefest, Jagex said they wouldn't be introducing an in-game casino because it would be a "legal nightmare" due to gambling laws...

Excuse me, but isn't this gambling? A lot more than an in-game casino even would be, considering that GP only have real world value if you break the rules....whereas here there's no doubt about the real world value...?

I would hope theres a confirmation screen. I haven't even bothered to log in with all honesty so I can't say for sure if its a simple button or not.

Pressing the button in game takes you to the Jagex store place whatever it's called. There you can select the amount of spins and the payment method. If you select card it'll have your details there already then you just need to click on the confirm button and it'll complete. That's it. Once you click that button there's no chance to back out.

So yes, it's possible for kids to put it on their parents credit cards if they're paying for their membership that way with no extra effort.

So they removed in-game gambling (dice, horses etc) because it was bad but have now just implemented REAL LIFE GAMBLING! Bloody hell. Please tell me this is April fools...

What is real-world trading?

Real-world trading is the term used for the real-world purchase of services with the intention of advancing your Jagex character. This includes, but is not limited to: purchasing gold or items in RuneScape, buying a RuneScape account as well as paying someone to increase your account's experience (XP) in a skill or for them to complete quests and activities on your behalf.

Why do we have this rule?

We have this rule for two reasons:

1. We dont want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldnt affect your ability to be successful in RuneScape.

2. Often when players sell items in RuneScape for real cash, the items are actually stolen. When a player purchases a RuneScape account, there is a high probability that the account may have been stolen. Stolen accounts will always be returned to the original owner.

One could argue there is no wager so it's not actually "gambling". You are purchasing content (microtransactions).

It also defaults to 10 spins and card so it's possible to pay for it without even selecting any options, just clicking the confirm button.

What's also interesting is that the email I received went straight to my spam inbox, so it's possible parents won't even see the email about it (assuming they've used their email for the account). This was on Gmail so I imagine it'll happen to a lot of people.

Apparently it doesn't count as gambling in a real life sense because you cannot win anything of real world value....

What if someone wins a lucky divine spirit shield and sells the account for real life money then? That's a real world value, IMO.

The awkward moment when Jagex realizes they just provided a loophole for goldfarmers to use when jagex tries to sue them.

Jagex states something along the lines of "Trading rs items for real cash is against the rules." Yet that is exactly what they're doing. All a goldfarming company would have to do is provide evidence of the rule, jagex breaking that themselves and boom, case is over.

I really hope not! Without multi-factor authentication (mobile app/text message/secure key) not only can a malicious person "hack" my account (phishing, social engineering, persuading jagex they are me) but that person can now, without knowing any of my CC details, buy a shit load of spins on the squeel and cost me REAL money!

I am cross.... very cross. This goes against EVERYTHING Jagex have said in the past about gambling and buying your way to the top and basically makes everything they have told us at RuneFest worthless. Can we ever trust what they say again?

I guess it doesn't count because it's against the rules? Idk, but even with Jagex being really thick this time, I can't really believe they wouldn't check if this is well within the law or not.

Jagex arent providing any items though. They are giving access to a part of the game called "squeel of fortune". Really don't want to defend Jagex on this issue but they are not directly offering items for irl money any more than p2p gives access to more features for money.
