You all realize Jagex might pull a fast one and reintroduce these fish masks to the Squeal at some point in the future? They dolled up the Squeal with the "Neptune" theme; they probably won't just throw it away to never be used again. Who's to say there won't be another update that would fit such a theme?

To me, it seems more likely that they will introduce something similar to the fish mask - a different species of fish, or a different color, or a different shape. That way they can build on the theme and keep people coming back for more. Eventually players will be able to 'collect' an entire set of masks.

It wouldn't surprise me if they made it hideous on purpose, such that when they track its trading history for future SoF item marketing, they know almost for certain that people are buying it solely because of its status, and not its cosmetics.

the SoF is mildly annoying but not that big of a deal for me. it is hard to say no to free stuff, but to be honest this is pretty close to that threshold.

3.) people quit.

4.) people lose or destroy them.

Plus we have no clue how rare the mask really is, and how many will come into the game. After the month is up, who knows, they may be so common that they never really become valuable. I mean, a santa is a rare, and what, its worth 80m?

I'm guessing they won't really become a legit rare. I seem to recall Jagex stating they would never make a discontinued item again, but then again that was pretty much a different company.

I have to say I don't quite understand why people are upset about that, or rather, why they're more upset than before. I don't like the SoF either, but this isn't worse than what they've already done. So while this annoys me (I'd really like to have a news post without the mention of the freaking SoF), it's not *that* big of a deal either...

Yeah, that's pretty much where I am on all this. I still enjoy the game, never was much of one for merching anyway, so this update doesn't have a huge impact on my playstyle. Not a huge fan, but not gonna ragequit cause of it either. I'll just keep on quietly skilling in the background...

 

I do love the FF update, btw. Though I think it definitely could've used some better bug-testing before being released.

 

Oh, and...

 

... We're slowly being eased into and conditioned for these business practices to be acceptable. Basically, anything they can make a profit on in this game, they will, now that they have a sly way to do it. Even if partyhats were super-ultra-mega-whatever rare, it would still boost SOF sales. And that's what they want.

 

 

Andrews Jagex would never have pulled stunts like this. But sadly, this is IVPs Jagex. All bets are off.

 

Long-term, I dont expect this game to last another 5-10 years. So I take these player projections re: the Fish Face with a grain of salt. Who will be playing in 5-10 years that would be interested in buying them?

Anyway, speaking of boycotts just about all my 'oldest' RS friends have quit over this. These are people who have played since classic, and many of them have been members for many consecutive years. One of them is maxed and was a dual-mod before Jagex decided to strip her of her titles for speaking her mind in the hidden forums about the Wheel of Greed. It wasn't the wheel itself that caused them to quit. It was how Jagex has shoe-horned this crap into every single update since it came out, and the "new rare" is the last straw.
