blue107
Most people say it doesnt matter but very few people have HDTV, most had EDTV which is a huge difference. I personally never noticed too much of a difference between them until I recently got my PS3. I have a 61" DLP 1080p HDTV and it is truly amazing  485th person to ever play RuneScapeBlue107- perm banned 10/12/2007. $300 USD reward if you can get me in contact with someone who will take 5 seconds to look at evidence and get my original character unbanned. Randomnameless
I did the exact same thing the day i got my HD T.V. albosky. I also saw a movie set in the country and when they showed a screen door you could see it and see the guy behind it perfectly. It is amazing the difference when you look at it. They only thing i don't like is my HD channels go out a lot.
Turnip
I mostly just watch sports and the occasional tv series (like lost) and I can see a HUGE difference between normal and HD. I've become sort of spoiled with it and find it annoying to watch a normal channel on a big screen (smaller screens don't matter to me as much). Even the sound quality on HDTVs is better than normal channels; I am able to get all the normal local channels + a few others (TNT, WB, Discovery, and a few others) on HD so I think it's really worth it. To some people saying they can't tell the difference, when you're on a HD channel, it does not always mean the show is being broadcasted in HDTV, so there will be a very very small difference in picture quality. You'll notice when you see HD if you're watching sports though.
Mr_Putter
Good computers are higher-def ;). Apparently the 8800GTX (non-SLI) can do Oblivion at 2560x1600 with everything at full except for AA. Then again at that resolution you might not even need AA... And I'm getting one next month, yay. It might cost me more than my car did.I'm getting a GTS...as soon as I see what ATI has to offer to make sure. But I won't be running it at 2560x1600, because my monitor won't allow it, and because I don't like Oblvion ;).
Faux
I hope people understand, I can see the difference. I just don't care. 480i vs. HDTV shows how much clarity HDTV has. 480i is SO grainy. It's just that I don't care much for it :| :: Guess the Movie Contest Champion: pfilc23 ::
Poopingman
Honestly I can never tell the difference between HD and normal...and because of that, I've saved alot of money. 8-)You obviously have never actually seen a HD program. Yeah, I have...my friend has a 29 inch HD television he paid a bundle for. Maybe its just not that important to me? :-s Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King.... I spent about 3 days trying to explain to him that its not the same thing...... So the TV we have now may be HD ready, but it sucks... Doesnt even have a HD port... i.e. the 1 the xbox 360 uses.. Pete_the_Viscous
Nope. I don't really watch TV. Of course, were someone to offer me a free HDTV, then I'd take it. Similarly, were it to cost the same amount as a normal TV, then I'd get it over that. It's a moot point, though, because I don't want a TV, and I have a computer anyway. deviantart account
Kwisatz
I have an Artisan DVD edition of Terminator 2 with 1080p WMV encoded video of the movie, and I watched it at 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor. Looks good enough for me :D. What most people don't realize is that if you're the only person watching something, then a small(er) LCD with equivalent resolution is cheaper and does the same job that a huge HDTV does. A cheapo CRT does 720p even, if you consider that HD. Just sit a bit closer. In short, until prices are lower and I live by myself, HD means nothing to me. Television is fine the way it is, and my movies look just fine with upsampling too. handed me TWO tissues to clear up. nik
I just started at circuit city acually. I just got home from a 12 hour shift in which I shadowed product specialists (what I am going to be), so basically I spent all day talking about hdtv, seeing hdtv demos etc etc. There are two common standards of hdtv, 720p and 1080i, and there is 1080p, which is only in blueray dvd players, and the ps3. I can personally say, that after 11 hours of working (1 hour break) There is a huge differeance in hdtv and a normal optical cable line. If you want to go for the biggest and the best, you shoot for 1080p hdtv, which is incredable, just amazing truely. The problem with these things is.. they cost quite a bit of money. If you have a huge income and that isnt a problem, then I would say get it, get a 50 inch plasma 1080p hdtv, it is worth it if you have the money. If you are like me, and other people who do not have the income to support ridiculaus habits, then, maybe you want to reconsider. The tv itself is you know, anywhere from 1299$ to 3999$ depending on what you want. but that isnt the limit of the price, you also have to get a hdtv service, which is another 10 dollars a month, for a limited number of channels, you have to get the freaking CABLES which are ridicualus by themselves. For a HDMI cable you can pay 169$, and 125$ for a component video cable. and assuming you want the best quality from your hdtv box, and your dvdplayer you will want at least one of both. Also, if you want to use the 1080i to its maximum, you will have to get a ps3 or a blue ray dvdplayer, which is.. 800 for the dvd player, and god knows on ebay for the ps3. which again, you will need your cables. So for me, is it worth getting hdtv? No, I cannot afford that, but I am only 18, if you have a large income and are willing to put it into that sort of entertainment, then sure go for it, but everything adds up. Also, I do plan to get myself a nice sound system first, then a standard 23 inch-ish hdtv before I graduate this year, so yes, I am saving, but I also get a huge discount :) C'YEA H0'KAY
