For future reference: Are there non-combat skills in WoW, like RuneScape's?

Yeah, but they're pretty much intertwined with combat skills.

What are they like?

3.2 is awesome. I got that new gun off the heroic ToC and my t8.5 tokens also.

You know how it takes like *at least* half a year to get to 99 in anything in runescape? it takes about two or three days to max out your non combat skills

Well there are 3 gathering professions, Mining, Herbalism and Skinning.

Skinning well, you skin mobs with fur etc.

Mining, nodes spawn all over the world and better nodes spawn as you get into higher levelled territory, you mine it as you would.

Herbalism, herbs spawn the same as mining, and you just pick it.

Then there are the primary professions: Blacksmithing, Engineering, Tailoring, Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, Inscription, Alchemy.

Alchemy is making potions with herbs.

Inscription is grinding the herbs down into parchment to make gear enhancements or spell enhancements.

Leatherworking uses primarily skinning materials but also some mining materials to make armour/gear enhancements.

Tailoring uses cloth (Which is found on 90% of mobs, higher level = better cloth) to make armour/gear enhancements.

Blacksmithing uses mining materials to make armour/gear enhancements.

Jewelcrafting uses mining materials also to craft gems/jewellery, gems can be put in gear with sockets.

Engineering uses all professions materials and you can craft gadgets like rocket boots, lightning trinkets, and non-combat stuff too.

IeatWindex, if you are looking for a caster, ask me, I know all about every caster class. :P I'll just go through the basics of them.

Mage:

Master of the elements, fire, frost and arcane. You have the smallest mana and hp pools but can put out some of the best burst damage available. Not to mention the fact that you can protect yourself with shields and crowd control in many different ways, be it transforming them into helpless animals, freezing them on the spot, stunning them, etc. You can kite until your hearts content using frost's slowing abilities.

The mage is one of the least played classes to date because of the skill required to play.

Warlock:

Master of demons and dark magic, the focus of damage is with shadow and fire. You have the biggest hp pool of any caster and with this stamina you gain buffs. You can summon demons from the Twisting Nether to aid yourself in battle. You do damage either by entirely direct attacks, burning enemies down fast, or by placing many damage over time spells and making them run away in fear where they can do nothing but die very slowly. You can sacrifice your own hp to gain mana or do intense AoE damage.

The warlock is slightly higher than a mage in popularity but in my opinion is easier a lot easier to play.

Priest:

Master of holy spells and discipline with the ability to deal tremendous shadow damage whilst still healing and returning mana to the group. You can be disciplined in the art of healing, focusing around putting barriers on your group to absorb incoming damage or you can go holy and use the power of light to heal everything within your range for high amounts. Or you can choose to deal damage and play the warlocks, you focus on shadow damage over time spells while using fear a lot.

Very difficult to learn but easy to play once you get used to it, about the same popularity level as a warlock.

Druid:

Jack of all trades, master of melee and healing :| The moonkin form using the balance tree focuses your damage around nature and your control of it can make for huge damage, in TBC this was known as the Oomkin form. (OOM stands for Out of Mana, without mana you cannot cast spells). Now, they are more prolifically known as Doomkins or Boomkins because of their outstanding damage without any buffs. You can also use the restoration tree form, having huge armour yet focusing your heals around heal over time spells which slowly rack up your healing to immense levels. You have great survivability and can cast everything whilst moving. If you choose to change once more you can go feral, there are two ways of this, the cat and bear. The cat is currently the best damage dealer in game, stealthing behind your opponent and stunning whilst putting out huge damage. The bear is a good tank with a high HP pool but also doing a lot of damage.

The druid is the 4th most popular class at the moment.

Shaman:

Jack of all trades, [cabbage] at everything. Really. Restoration sucks, 5 spells and all 5 need buffs. Enhancement is underpowered, this needs a buff too. Elemental is ok actually, but you only want one to supply the raid buffs. Shamans are only brought to raids because they have the most powerful ability in the game to date, Bloodlust/Heroism. Increased haste by 30% for 40 seconds and their totems which also give huge buffs.

If you are on the EU side by the way, come to Frostwhisper and choose the Horde side, I am there and the server overall is really nice. It's well balanced Horde/Ally ratio and the community is awesome since it's never been a suggested realm.

Mages have highest Mana don't they? Especially Arcane spec. Although they run out of mana really quickly.

I'm just below 20k mana unbuffed (19893) which goes to 21k once I use arcane intellect, hardly see any other glasses with more.

Edit: you also missed Enchanting which means you can put enchantments (+stats) on equipment. You can also disenchant equipment to get supplies for Enchantment and other skills like tailoring.

wake up like dead men

Nope, mages have the lowest HP & mana pools and thanks for that Enchanting thing, I knew I forgot something.

I'm officially bored with the game.

That took a while. I can't stand playing WoW for more than 3 or 4 months. Hell, last time I lasted for what -- 2?

Yeah.. it has been a long time, my longest so far. I dunno, I was only logging in to raid anyway, and being denied a spot because I was 3 minutes late, when they are taking absolute scrubs in and I'm consistently in the top 5 DPS (lots of competition for first place but I win my fair share).. I kinda got pissed off.

I don't blame my guild for it, the rules are there in black and white and they must be fair to the people who were there ready to go. It just made me angry in general, so I took my name off the raiding roster and have logged in maybe 3 times since.

Transferring to sylvanas sometime this week, hopefully I can actually get some good raiding done again.

Tk5SF.png

Raid lockouts really annoy me.

With today being the last day before the reset and still not having done Naxx25 I get an invite to do Military wing + Saph and KT so I decide sure, I only need to do it for a few emblems anyway and perhaps the sword off KT so why not.

Get there, save myself to the instance one try of the first boss and we wipe and everyone leaves

Atleast I had highest DPS for the fight =/

I need to get into either a good guild or just change servers but I can't really afford the cost of changing servers atm.

Wut.

Enhancement DPS is far superior to Elemental DPS, and is essentially on par with other dedicated melee DPS. I can easily top DPS on heroics and 10 mans.

Shamans are godly in PVE unless you have downs.

You know what I never understand.

Why do people play MMOs? I mean can't you waste your life with something else. Like trying to remember that password for Mega Man 7.

Just curious.

Ozzy Osbourne, the only mortal to openly challenge the Lich Kings claim to the title "Prince of Darkness" and survive, (
) will take the stage live at Anaheim Convention Center to rock the closing ceremonies of BlizzCon 2009.

Although tickets to the convention sold out in minutes, you can still join in with the 'BlizzCon Virtual Ticket' ( http://blizzcon.rayv.com/ ) live Internet stream or via DIRECTV Pay Per View. The Virtual Ticket will feature 18 hours of BlizzCon coverage, including Ozzys live performance, as well as the BlizzCon 2009 exclusive in-game pet: Grunty the Murloc Marine.

Check out the official press release to learn more. http://www.blizzard.com/us/press/090811.html

I am very surprised. I bet this is gonna make it a lot more popular.

Just curious.

Sure people could spend their time doing something more productive like learning social skills and go to the gym, but as long as they enjoy playing and they don't spend 40hrs a week doing it I think it's pretty unfair to say they're "wasting their life away". Admittedly though, MMORPGs are full of people with social anxiety issues who simply don't function that well socially, so they escape into the world of MMORPGs instead and tell themselves that they are socialising with their friends (internet friends). But the reality is that the day you stop helping them get dragon swords they'll forget you exist and find someone else to bounce memes off of.

But to answer your question, MMORPGs games are basically extremely well-designed schedule of endorphin release. They dangle a carrot in front of you, and when you catch it they throw up another one. Even when you've max'd your level and have the best gear. It's pretty depressing.

tl;dr: "You don't win, you just do a little better each time..."

Here's your flaw; "Heroics and 10-Mans". I am talking about high end raiding where the order will be same assuming a mostly tank/spank fight. Elemental and Enhancement are on par at the highest level but elemental doesn't need that much of a buff because of the sheer amount of raidbuffs they give to casters, same with moonkins. Enhancement doesn't give as much to a raid as elemental does but does roughly the same DPS and hence why I said it needs a buff.

Shamans are godly in terms of lore and would pretty much destroy anything unless they angered the elements so much but in the game at the moment elemental is decent, enhancement needs small buffs and restoration needs a fix. Definately not awesome in PvE.

Yeah the MMO formula is really obvious. Whatever though, I still enjoy them. I play MMOs with a real life friend though, does that count for anything? (He's my roomate).

I can't stand dealing with inner guild drama, it always just feels so [developmentally delayed]ed. I mean, people [bleep]ing up and down because of a game always feels odd. Just one of the reasons why I can't raid anymore.

I make it a priority to stick with small guilds though, and I'm doing it again for Aion.

Uh, Enhancement scales better with raid buffs, because it benefits from both melee and caster buffs.

And you are judging shamans based on their performance in content that the majority of players won't even experience?

I decided I'd be in horde and be a warlock blood elf. Soon Ill buy the WoW battlechest thing and a 2 month pre-paid card, but anyone who is willing to help me when I start the game give me your username or something? Thanks.

Damn if only you did this early this summer. We could've done refer-a-friend when I wanted to level a priest

edit: and yeah... shamans are really.. meh. My main is a hunter and the only class I'm willing to admit that is underpowered are shamans

I've been running ToC for the past week now, trying to get the edge of ruin axe, but with no luck. Finally, today it drops, along with a lot of other awesome loot... And I lost the rolls on all of them to a stupid ret pally.

All of the below items dropped, and they're all very nice upgrades from what I have, and they all went to a ret pally. FML. (I'm an unholy DK btw)

My head almost exploded after reading 1 page of this.

The sour dough of the epitmous pie hungers for another's sweet lips to be dulled into a state of most irreverant humbleness

TUBULAR BELLS!

Make sure you know the difference between pvp and pve servers. I can't imagine doing dailies in a pvp server. Leveling was a pain compared to pve for sure.
