  1. I prefer to thinof the RSC guys as the ancient crowd. I myself joined about a week after RS2 beta ended. I really didn't understand the game back then (I seem to rember being a year under age or something too, but I did that enough times that I don't know unless I look at the update archives). I rember when level 20 anything was good, protect prayers were near immpossible, and level 50 combat people were powerful (from my perspective). I rememeber dragon items being insanely expensive, and even teh god armours were pretty immpressive and rare. I have seen the F2P world become a demo as P2P cesed to be an extension. I have seen myself change too. For the first few years of F2P, I was forever bored when skilling and would pounce on any opourtunity to help someone with a quest (this really started about a year after doing all free quests because it allowed me to relive them too). Now, my time is precious to me and while I will often offer some help via pms, I don't have time to go help people. Also, as a member, I have had to give intructions to find places all over the map. I have learned that most players before were either ignorant of the world map or couldn't open it, so giving directions was not fun. Now that we have HD and a world map that anyone can open (since its built into the game) I have realised that apparently 50% of members have never looked at the world map and 40% either won't or are to stupid to find anything. It has made me very cinical about giving directions even if its 20 steps away because I am astounded by peoples lack of navigational ability. Players were not always so clueless. Or more to the point they may have had much less actual knowledge, but they could help themselves. They could do cooks assitant with having a panic attack, 2 tantrums and a whole lot of general begging and mopeing when asked to find the other side of a freaking bridge. Now most players couldn't find their own arse with both hands (in real life)
  2. Except training magic, everything I do is geared towards making money to some degree. When I mine, or smith, I am intending to do so in a way in which I have a net profit. I dont need to make alot, and I would rather smith mithril rather than just smelt (smelting only would allow about double proffit). When I train melee, I try to do it on monsters where I can sell the drops. There are a couple exceptions. I play BA and CW knowing full well I am not going to get any money or experiance, but I hardly ever play CW and some of teh BA rewards are useful for somethign money related in teh long run. Ultimatly, the money is actualy for skilling. When training I sometimes use a slow profitable method ot make money, then use the money to finance a much faster method that costs money. Also, the money gained in one skill can go to another. I do kill for alot of things. Herbs and runes are cheif things I aqire through combat (especially law, fire and nature runes). I dont use many potions so I rarely buy them. The only potions I keep stock of tend to be prayer, anti-poison, and a couple restores. I can make all these myself (mind you not super restores). Basicly yes, I kill for many of my commodities (mithril ore, iron ore, all herbs, fire runes, law runes and nature runes are the main ones).
  3. The only real difference I can think of is that I would get more sleep. RS consumes no social time on weekdays because most of my friends don't live anywhere near me (I only see them at school and on weekends). I would do less homework on off blocks at school and probably would have found other ways to occupy myself with a computer seeing as my usage is constant whether I play RS or not. My weight is low if anything, and my eyesight is better than perfect (20/20+) as tested about 2 weeks ago. Now, I had 20/40 vision about 6 years ago, but that was never going to last anyways, and if parents are anything to go by I will need glases in another 10-20 years. RuneScape has also done wonders for my typing. 6 years ago I could do that thing where you use 2 fingers and put in a letter every second. Now I can touch type in pitch black (with a few mistakes and its not very fast), and near touch type with pretty decent speed. RuneScape is a part of me (a good part thankfuly), and I don't know who I would be without it but I am sure that I would be atleast a slightly different person.
  4. Normally clicking would not be a skill. The ectofuctus though, like hunter traps, has a long unnesscary animation (like the ones that every graphic updated monster used to get) and with some practice, you could do it very quickly. In many cases where the make-x has been implamented, it has been possible to do that something faster by hand (though smelt-x and smith-x are both faster). The problem for Jagex is that RuneScape has always had grinding complaints thrown it's way, and this is their way of keeping new players who are not willing to grind. As to making the skill easier/faster, yes its a bit easier. Faster? From what I heaar this is not like the fill-x buckets (which I think is automatic, not an option), which actualy completes that task about 2 or 3 times faster than you can click. Some skills get speed bosts (smithing, crafting) and some get slowdowns (prayer, fletching). The prayer alter is still better. I still use the ectofunctus for certain things. When I go through the effort to aquire ourag and otehr related bones, I am not going to lose a possible extra 50% from those bones simply because if I am going to get them manualy, I intend to get maximum benifit for it.
  5. I ony noticed the full screen advantage when I world hoped and hd wouldn't load for a while. When I get home I must try this, though one monitor being taller could have interesting results. Yes its an advantage, but not a critial one.
  6. The GE brings a curse that Jagex may or may not have seen coming. Because almost all trading goes through the GE, prices respond to shortages and surplus much faster because it is easier to notice. Just for all you thinking about all restrictions being removed, it would be total chaos. Anyways, I see alot of Jagex needs to actualy sove the problem. I have seen much fewer ask the all important how. If you make teh GE less responsive to supply/demand, then yes, price manipulation will be slower if not harder, but then you have teh problem prices cant change when there is legitimate need. The thing is there really is no way to prevent manipulation while allowing the price to change. You can make it harder by making it near impossible to buyout an item, but thats about as much as you can hope for. There is a solution I can think of: When you buy certain items like god swords, you can simply never sell them. Maybe you can sell them over extreme ammounts of time, but really to make it work, if you bought one, you would never be allowed to sell it. Actualy this can be done for many things, allowing you to buy and sell a set of armour when you upgrade, but not allowing you to buy mass ammounts for selling. This rrestriction has to carry to trades too. So whats better? Extreme restrictions on quantity bought? or not being able to sell multiples of weapons and armour that you buy (if you buy some piece of armour you can sell it, if you buy 2 you sell 2. Buy 3+, you can only sell 2). The second is a solution, it allows you to get a spare and change your mind. Any legitimate use of these items will eventualy lead to them being lost in combat anyways, so you should never need to sell them. This would also mean an end to merchanting, but all restrictions on quantity bought could be removed. So what you want?

When you observe someone doing something, you assume they do it because they want to. Say someone is being an [wagon], you dont assume that maybe a close friend died, you assume they are just an [wagon]. When you do something, you use circumstances to justify your actions. Basicly because you know your cicumstances, you use them to justify actions. Because you do not know someone ellses circumstances, you assume they are motivated by self desire. The normal human brain has some capacity to understand and simulate another persons emotions by reading body language, mostly facial expression. Your brain takes say a facial expression, and then works backwards to determine what emotion would produce that facial expression. Because body language is fairly universal (natural body language) you can make such things as hand gentures to comunicate in a basic way using empathy.
  8. Every once in a while that sense of achivement crops back up for me. When star hunting in say the fremminik lands, I can go anyplace because I ahve done the quests. When on landed in shilo village, I had the quest. I am motivated by a desire to get something. I do not train skills because its more fun than something else, but beause I need it for that next quest. I only make money when I have something to spend it on, and normally would not have more than a couple mill in the bank which will slowly errode to nothing. When I get really close to something, I tend to go full out. I have been saving up about 9m, when I hit 7.5 a couple days ago, my income went from maybe 90k a day to about 200k. In case your wondering if this took months, I am also motivated when I start out. When I started saving I was at about 110k per day. People tend to be driven by aspiration. Say you and a few friends play Halo 3 alot. If you suck at it, you will improve and get better until you match the skill of your best friend. When people play Mech' Assult on Xbox for the first time they are invariably slaghtered. After a few hours of that they are able to beat anyone who has not played live. If you are better then all your friends though, you will not improve, you will actualy lose skill. It is very difficult to motivate yourself to be better once you are the best. If your lucky you will have enough desire to stay the best to keep it that way, but generaly you will never improve without some challenge. A few select people actualy can become the best at something, and then get even better. Its hard to soar like an eagle when your surrounded by chickens (or something like that).
  9. The thing is Jagex does understand the economy, and they wan't to change it. They obviosly do not see much value in what the merchants do so they obviously have no qualms about making it a pain in the butt. What could you possibly need 10 godswords for, other than just selling them. People can still get what they need without any problems.
  10. My only issue with these limits is that they really dont do me much good, because no one else has the same limit I do. Asid from a few friends who have or had a quest cape, I have never traded with someone who had the old 30k limit. Of course, only having player traded about 7 times since the GE was created, its not really an issue.
  11. looked up the pronounceations before. I rember exactly how they are said. Lumbridge: LHUM - bridge Varrock: VAR - rock Falador: FHAL - ah - door Port Phasmatys: Port phas - MATT - ee Ardounge: ARE - dounge (dounge is approximatly doen) Tiranwnn: This one I dont rember. I think: ter - ANN - when Lyetta: LEE - et - ah Picatoris Fishing colony: pic - ah - tor - iss/ess ( a guess) Trollheim: TROLL - hime (me as mime) Burthrope: BERTH - rope Canifis: CAN - if iss (can as in the object. NOT can as in you can do it) Karamja: CAR -am -jah
  12. Force I had reqs for a quest like this. Everyone is forgetting another important reward: 10(?) songs. Only 20 left for emote now. I agree this quest should have been more epic, but story wise it was decent, am glad I didn't get any items as my bank is fit to burst already. Time to move more stuff to my POH (I hate doing that for stuff I use).
  13. agree with phyco-robot, this reeks of a justification mentality. If you forget all the normal morallity issues for a second, there is another problem. What will happen when (not if) Jagex takes action to prevent manipulation? Well, there will probably be limits on value traded in a week or something, or maybe we will loose our =/-5% freedom on go to say 2.5%. Maybe Jagex will perma freeze the market and do any pricing changes manualy. Do we see where I am going with this? Whatever happends (and something will happen), average players, merchanters, manipulators, skillers, everyone is going to be screwed over by some plan to prevent manipulation. Maybe it will just be suspending the demeand relationship for a week or two, but it will take something really noticable to actualy stop manipulation. So manipulators, think aboiut this. You should all know Jagex will not stand for manipulation indefinatly, and you can be assured a plan is already in the works. By forcing Jagex to add more limitations you nto only ruin things like the GE for yourself, but for everyone else. Those few greeds manipulators could kill merchanting because they wan't to make money faster or without taking as much of a risk. Personaly, I would like to see 2 things happen to manipulators because I see taking advantage of another ignorance is morally worng. First, I want to see there entire banks auctioned off to those who have lost money as a result of their actions. Second I want to them all perma banned.
  14. I should point out that the latest quest may answer some questions, but has left the story open for more. I don't think you will every see the gnome quests closed as Jagex will wan't to keep the option of writin more open. You might see more answered questions. but I doubt you'll see closed stroy arcs to often.
  15. I honestly don't think smoking should ever be the answer. In the long run, you will not live as long (probably). It can also be socialy debilitating for someone like you who sounds like they are going somplace in life. In many better educated social circles, you will find that smoking is not acceptable (these are of course generalizations). Realise that there are many more people who instantly hate people who smoke than there are people who hate people who dont smoke. If I were you, I would find a more natural stress reliever be it running, puching a punching bag, listning to music, whatever floats your boat. About befrinding 'substance users'. Nogo for me. The smell of cigarets makes me incredibly nauseus resulting in me being dizzy, lathargic, and all with an overwhelming desire to puke. I don't handle other substance odours much better, and most cented products make it incresingly hard for me to breathe and often cause tremors and lathargy. I hate people who smoke because most are inconsiderate and have forgotten just how much their cigarets (not to metion them and their clothes) reek. 9 times out of 10 a smoker will go upwind of other people. I figure if I ever tried smoking i'd probably die by drowning...in my own bile.

The random number generator is actualy not random. It is definatly weighted and all a 100cb needs to do to see this is go find something in the level 20 - 30 range. You will notice that at some point, you hit lower on low levels. This game rewards a set xp per damage done. In many games killing something way below your level gives you nill - to completly insignificant exp. This game compensates by making you ineffective against something really weak if you are powerful. Now there are again limits to this, as I almost never hit 0 on a chicken, but I do hit the occassional 1-2 with whip. What the game lacks is a greater than zero limit. Normally a weapon in say Diablo, does say 2-4 damage (necromancers starting wand), to things like 10-17 or 1-31. There are other modifyers afterwards, and zeros can happen, but if you hit the base for calculations will be atleast your weapons minimum. Basicly it would be like the whip hitting no less than 10 (unless hp remaining is >10) at 70 str.
  17. 6.5m in cash vs 3.4m in items (melee only). This is actualy unusual, I only have cash when I am saving for something, otherwise I don't have more than 2m on hand.
  18. A pitty I lose some CB level on f2p, but I still have many levels over what I had before to help with. I should hope I am there.
  19. Definatly take a ROL, it wont hurt you and might save you. Depending on your levels you might need an extra prayer pot. Also, and this is just a thought, for me the banshee queen hits high but not to often. It might be worth it to sell like 8 monkfish and buy yourself 4-6 krambwan or shark so you can eat attack and eat rather than just eat if you take a big hit. But monkfish will see you through fine. If t=killing the regular banshees takes any significant time, you might consider protect from melee to save on food. When you fight the banshee queen I suggest protect from magic until the archers start attacking at which point you will probably need protect from range or you will end up eating and unable to attack just to stay alive. If you have a holy wrench, bring it, its like a few free doses from prayer pot, and if you have proslyte, wear the legs or legs and body from the prayer bonus if you think you can spare the defence.
  20. I rember when more people would take 30 seconds to nicely answer a question. I rember when my my combat level of 100 would have garned me respect rather being labled as [wagon] and people would ask for help on quests (I enjoyed helping). Still, there are good people who play, you just need to find them.
  21. 'several hundred k' may be bit exagerated, but when the drops from the monster total 120k, and the maze more than doubles that, its pretty good.
  22. Ankous are no great secret as mildely resonable for higher mid range levels (90 - 100 is good). They are slayer monsters, so being good is not unexpected. I like them because I can use a salve ammy on them which is better than glory against undead. Green drags are, unlike ankous, a very consistant profit rate which is nice. I rarely visit because I hate Revenants in ways that would astound and disturb you. Avianese are the most well knows consistant high profit creature in the game. Sure plenty of things have higher payout, but you know you will make money each trip, every trip at avies. Someday I hope to go there but I still hate rangeing. For xp some people use pest control. No one knows why people go there for xp since the xp rate there blows harder than a catagory 5 hurricane. Finaly you have rock crabs where everyone and their grandmother is bursting like ballons in a woodchipper (I made that up  ) for incredible mage xp while literaly blowing money out their rear ends at truely astonishing speeds (seriously, nothing costs more per second that I know of).
  23. Maze hands down most valuble random. I always make several hundred thousand gp from that event without exception. Being a member probably helps, but last I checked steel arrows are f2p and they always make up the majority of the value for me. The worst would be a swarm. You can't kill it and it gives you nothing.
  24. Randox replied to watts320's topic in Rants
^running around with a lose whip is like tying a hatchet to a rope and running around your back yard with it (like a foot or 2 of rope). It looks cool too.
  25. The revenue from autoing should pay for membership easy. Make 20 accounts, 1 to pay everyoens membership and 19 for profit probably. If 1 auto cant pay his own membership, the guy running it needs to get a real job cuse thats just sad. Then again, I have never noticed them on p2p since the auto crusade so maybe the autos really are staying on f2p. Lets keep f2p around to kepp all our autos for us because if f2p is eliminated, all that will happen in autoed money will become a bit more expensive and p2p will be chalk full of autos.
