  1. To quote a rather famous sailor, with bulging biceps, a squint, and a corncob pipe: "I yam what I yam." And this whole discussion was about why Runescape has such a negative stereotype. I simply compared Runescape to a few other games to show why it perceived so poorly, particularly by the gaming community. When my knowledge was contested, I simply retorted by displaying my "resume", if you will.
  2. I still don't think its the worst game as far as grinding goes. My friend who plays WoW has 2 characters maxed out, and he complains of them making it too easy nowadays, the only time I ever see him on (I use xfire pretty handy if you play online games like CoD or something) is a couple times a week to raid. Graphics wise I agree but what do you expect playing a Java game? Well, I've never seen or heard of a game that takes as long to max out as Runescape. Not even Disgaea, where the characters could become a level 9999. If you know of any games that do, then show me and I'll gladly withdraw the statement. The graphics, though excellent for Java, are still poor. To the average gamer, it doesn't matter how great the graphics are in comparison to the norm for that software, what matters is how it stacks up compared to other games. Play silkroad, its soley combat/trader based and I know a guy that has played 2 years of it and still hasn't maxed out. The only time efficient way to level up is to power level in a party. Ahh, is that so? I've played Runescape since April of 05. And guess what? My skill total has yet to jump past the 1400s. It all depends on how much you play it and someone playing 24/7 on RS will take longer to level than someone playing 24/7 on any other games. The experience needed to level up increases exponentially while the experience received from the training methods rises linearly. Yes you are probably someone who thinks they are bursting full of knowledge on MMORPG's and have only played 1 mmo......... please don't have me waste my time making another post if you are just going to let the bs spew out of your mouth. So... instead you insult me? I've played more than one MMORPG, I've also partook in WoW and a little game called Ragnorak Online. I've enjoyed countless RPGs, from Pokemon to Final Fantasy. I also enjoy a little thing called Dungeons and Dragons. Have you heard of it? Plus, I happen to be a video game buff. So please, PLEASE, insult me. Please attempt to flame me to a barbecue me to a crisp cause I'm wearing my varia suit and need a light.
  3. Oh, and one more thing, F2P probably won't even have the cash to buy anything on the store. Think about it- someone who's mom won't pony up five bucks a month won't be willing to fork over 20 dollars so their son can buy a Runescape themed t-shirt.
  4. Ugh. That merchandise is... not good. The mouse looks incredibly uncomfortable, the mouse pads are more expensive than need be, and I'll buy a Trogdor Hoodie LONG before I get any Runescape brand clothing.
  5. Not per see. See the 1 defence pure like a silk t shirt, see the 2 defence guy as a two layered silk shirt. Either way a sword will cut through hard. So a guy with 99 defense is like a guy wearing a 99 layered silk shirt- barely able to move, but capable of stopping a ballista without being harmed. No...What Dharockslayer said is that, whether you are 1 defence or 2 defence, the difference is minimal. Other players would be able to rip through your armour in either cases. Nay, nuncle, twas but a merry jest.
  6. Ravenkana replied to Stewie_Griffen's topic in Rants
As an unfortunately avid wc-er, I can vouch that the difference is minimal; definitely not worth the 1.9m . A D-pick would probably be more costly and just as effective as the rune. Probably. The one use of the Dragon Axe that is actually worth something is slaying the Jade Vine. All you can wield is an axe and dragon weaponry is far superior to rune.
  7. you're moving a tiny stroke of your index finger into a computer mouse. how's that killing you? Have you heard of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, my good many?
  8. Funny I thought the episode was an insult to both WoW and their players. I don't see why they would brag about that. Yes, but when something is popular enough to get featured in a show that maintains the popularity of South Park, then you know that that something is something big. Anyway, who was it that said that bad publicity is good publicity? As some other people said, this sickens me. Why did they choose to announce this the SECOND year? Wouldn't the first time have been a lot more groundbreaking and exciting? And did it really deserve to be posted on the front page while another, game related, topic about changes to GoP was posted in the RSOF under "This Week's Updates?" Plus, if you take out the number of inactive accounts, the macroers, pures, multiple accounters, and accounts started just to try the new tutorial, the number of F2P becomes much smaller.
  9. If so then... coughsummoningcoughcough

  11. The problem is, everyone says that. Nope. I'm a nerd, a geek, a braniac, poindexter, and even a level 4 Sorcerer. And I play RS. But the reason why RS has such a negative stigma even, or should I say especially, in the gaming community is for a variety of reasons. 1. Jagex advertises that this game is for everybody regardless of age. Look at the fascist censor, for example. This leads to people believing that this is a kids game. 2. The amount of grinding contained within. Every MMORPG and almost every RPG has some grinding. But Runescape holds the title for grindiest game of the year for seven years running. 3. The graphics. Oh, I know about the huge update and I admit that Runescape has never looked better. But compared to other modern games? Not so good. And anyone who doesn't play won't know that the graphics have improved. 4. The leveling system. As others have said, the leveling system requires no skill or talent. Just clicking. Click, click, click. 5. Combat. Runescape has one of the worst combat systems I've ever seen. Everything is about preparation and what you bring. Experience and "skill" have minimal jurisdiction. 6. Customer Support, or the lack thereof. Jagex provides us with customer support only slightly better than the IRS and slightly worse than a group of trained chimpanzees. 7. The maturity. Need I go further? And 8., the lack of a free, player governed, market. This may not matter to a lot of people, but to us poindexters, it means a lot. And that is why RS has a negative stereotype. I still don't think its the worst game as far as grinding goes. 12. I'm betting that food, potions, and runes will rise. But don't hold your breath when it comes to yew longs or green d'hide armor. With the GE limiting purchases of those items to 100 per four hours, people won't be using them to train high alchemy. Plus, the increase won't be an immediate thing thanks to the fact that the GE updates once per day. I'm also thinking that there are huge stockpiles of consumables as the number of people using them has been greatly reduced for the past nine months.

  15. As multiple people have said, why wasn't this on the main page? People playing GoP really would like to know about it. I mean, I don't even go into the forums. I'm sorry, I just don't like them. Others probably share my opinion and, without the ability to even post, F2P accesses them even less.
  16. I'm tired of people blaming Pk'ers and their like on the decay of morals within the game. Look around you. Since they "left" are things really THAT much better? No. Runescapians are still as immature, rude, and selfish as ever.
  17. I would train there, to hell with slayer Im going to smash noobs :P "For every one of us you destroy, two more will take our place."
  18. Were you attempting to be funny? Cause Fozzy Bear does better on a regular basis. The reason why RC'ers don't want to mine ess is because 1. it doesn't give runecraft exp and 2. you're not actually making more money, due to cost effectiveness. Although, looking at natures compared to Pure essence, one could make more mining ess than runecrafting. At least until you hit laws... But that is only if the law running is faster than mining in Varrock.
  19. No, no, this thread shouldn't be a hot topic because it has been created before. Back when Land of the Goblins was released, I believe.
  20. Um... The GE has been around for... 10 months. Almost a full year. Yet we still await the leeway needed for a true free market.
  21. Sorry to be the pickled onion in this fruit salad, but I'm a little worried. Sure, this update looks good and sounds good, but how will it taste? See, I'm still remembering the whole Summoning development diaries and hype. Remember what it was like right after its release? Exactly how far from the promised mark was it? Plus I remember the exciting new PvP update as well as the Duel Tournaments. And don't even get me started on the GE's release. Though I'm fairly certain this update will come out well, Jagex's track record worries me. Anyhoo, though I'm not a PK'er I may try out these worlds to see how the resources fare, and how well I can exploit them. The two minigames look nice, though I nearly ruptured a lung when one was described as a real time strategy.
  22. I'm not really high leveled, but what about chins and red chins? Or green dragon hunting? These days all you have to worry about are revenants which you can easily outrun. What about shark fishing? How about farming? I admit that farming may be slow, but high level herbs yield a LOT. Plus you have gold mining or even just coal mining. Smithing cannonballs builds up a nice nest egg. Did I mention yew and magic tree cutting? Anyways, that 800k an hour is garnered through the use of Graahks, which are rather expensive. Or you can use the abyss with the chance that you could get caught be a revenant. Also calculate the cost of terrorbirds, abbysal summons, or energy potions as well. Plus, that is at level 91 with a skill which gives you a max of 308 exp per load (without pouches, the zamorak altar thingie, or with abyssal summons).
  23. Yes, but it's a dollar he wouldn't be paying if his credit card needs renewing.
  24. They say he doesn't count for any task and is firmly in the "other" category.
  25. Ravenkana replied to elit9's topic in Rants
This was a most amusing read, though a little droll, and it has a sound satirical premise. Indeed, if all rants were this well written and indited with a fine and varied vocabulary such as this, than the rants forum would become the new forum of entertainment and fun! Indubitably so, eh wot?
