Not sure if it still applies, but it's said that the easter ring and the ring of stone both have a freeze-time effect. Unless unmorphed by being attacked, Stats are neither drained nor recover. The easter ring (if you got one in easter 2006) is far better than the ROS, as: 1. It doesn't cost 5M 2. Lose it, Diango will replace Lying in wait as an egg has one small advantage, your equipment type is unknown, and you can have prayer and potion active.

There is a guide to the safespots somewhere. The four pieces are dropped, one from each level, by: 1. Minotaur (easy, range/mage over the fence safespot, or melee them inbetween fishing at the river). 2. Flesh Crawler (dedicated melee fighters have a room to the southeast with nothing but crawlers, down the east side is a passage with two, for slow & cautious tactics, there are a one or two safespots as well). 3. Catablepon (getting tough, these guys can hit sixes, as well as weaken). There is a fairly good safespot in the northwest room, but you cab take a bit of a beating getting there, there is also a cover position in the west room (southern edge), but that only works when they are non-aggressive. 4. Ankou (they can hit 8's). An effective safespot (with occasional incursions if you mistime it) in the south, second room in to the west). They are undead, so crumble undead can be used. To the north of the entrance, is the preferred melee room, Ankou and nothing else... step through the door, and step back out if in trouble. Melee with an iron pure there is tough, on river food (trout/Salmon) and with a Rune Scimmy, you're looking at one or two at the most, per load of food. I always do the Stronghold with: Axe (smithed, I take mithril because I can), feathers (100-200), fly fishing rod, tinderbox - those 4 spaces are dedicated to replenishing food after a run, without banking. Actually, Peksa (helm shop) has a fire, so the axe and tinderbox could be left out.

In members, the RFD bank is probably a bit closer than the top floor bank.

The bar is rising for some stats - High scores require that your stat is in the top million, and is at least 30. To hit the top million in a stat currently demands a minimum of:- 59 Attack 60 Strength 51 Defence 58 Hitpoints 36 Prayer 45 Ranged 48 Magic 54 Mining 45 Smithing 56 Woodcutting 40 Firemaking 54 Fishing 54 Cooking 41 Crafting All the member-only stats still have some space left in the table for level 30's, while the only F2P stat in this category is Runecrafting. Thieving & Fletching are closest to filling up to the million ranked. The result of the combat stat levels, particularly, is that calculators pulling stats from the high score are not going to be accurate for more moderate levels, since level 40 (rune weapon/armour) won't make it into the table.

My two setups have usually been: 1. Wizard hat, top, ammy, staff (fire, as I train and safespot fire strike), with cape/gloves/boots, anti-dragonfire shield, leather chaps... about the most that can be added without any penalty. 2. My "B" setup. with 20 ranged, changing the leather chaps for studded - after comparing all item stats, this was the most that defence could be increased, with minimal loss in attack - it loses 1 more point of attack than swapping the amulet for a power, but gains considerably more in defence, including mage defence. A good setup for mage to mage combat, particularly. If safespotting melee monsters, unequip the studded chaps to regain the maximum attack advantage

Need Help with my lvl 83 pure!!!! wat to do?
Doomster replied to Kamaroeki's topic in Help and Advice
Whatever you want, but it's a one way trip, you can't become "more pure" after giving it up with defence. Got full black for melee? - I'd thought of making a "black knight", as the black is pretty good stats for its level, the downside being you can't make black. Member or F2P? with that prayer level and 10 (and a bit) defence, white knight would be another choice. If you start on defence, maybe go halfway to 20, as Mithril is quite cheap, or in members, Initiate armour for prayer bonus, with white knight fill-ins. Also opens up the option to go for Mystic mage. A lot of the really tough stuff in members seems to need a prayer assist, often more important than the defence from any armour -
Fishing also unranked, but if high enough, I'd suggest fishing/cooking lobbies on Karamaja, melee the Lessers with the best weapon / armour you can, return to fishing spot & repeat. On the volcano by the rop exit, cut a couple of dead trees for logs. On arrival.... Equipped: Best or second best melee kit (rune armour will do, if you don't have or don't want to risk dragon, though a dragon weapon is highly recommended). Inventory: Woodcutting axe (best you can smith will do) Tinderbox (can discard and replace from store, to carry 1 more food) Lobster pot, or harpoon if you prefer Tuna/swordies I suggest arriving with some logs to start, and any junk you want to dispose of at a non-busy general store. If you have strength potions, bring a few. It is also a good place to burn up lower level spells from cover, but melle will probably be faster, especially if you do wield a dragon weapon. Try to eat betwen fights, rather than during, unless below 16 HP (two good hits) - if using a cordless mouse, have spare batteries at grabbing distance, and be sure you can load them quickly!

Jagex have really gone over the top with the timeouts, you can get logged out while firing a full load of pottery, maybe also potentially on a full load of single ore smelting (iron, silver, gold) as well. Thing is, if you want to cheat, jamming an arrow key to rotate the screen constantly is said to work. PS. Nothing wrong with training on auto-aggressive monsters, if you have even one molecule of attention on them. Until Jagex nerfed the fishing spots, you could also fish with minimal attention, now you stop, or the spot shifts, after only a couple of fish. Jagex have said, browsing forums while training is acceptable, then they go and nerf everything so badly that ONLY the autos can train unimpeded!

I guess you found the stronghold then... Completing the walkthough gives 4 emotes, 10k coins and the best F2P melee boots. Getting all the sceptre pieces (one from the unique type of monster on each level) give you a 1-space teleport item with 5 charges, the only 1-space teleport in F2P.

One of the most important skills in runescape : ergonomics.
Doomster replied to smobo's topic in General Guides
I'd disagree with the 60Hz refresh rate, the whole point of higher refresh rates is so that persistence of vision can eliminate the flicker, for CRT monitors, 70-75 Hz is usually preferable. Current LCD's are far better though, as LCD does not flicker, and you also avoid the static-induced dust field of the CRT. Avoid glare from the screen, use a screen filter if you need to, but ensure that the area around the screen is adequately lit. NB. Unless merchanting, Runescape is 99% mouse-driven, other than display rotation, so positioning and comfort of the mouse is at least as important as the keyboard. In general, larger mice tend to be more ergnomic than smaller ones, though use of other pointing devices such as a tracker ball could also be considered. -
Jagex' new rares? - 3A vs discontinued - PRICE UPDATE 7/2
Doomster replied to Ts_Stormrage's topic in General Discussion
For "rares" - the discontinued items, there is ZERO new supply, there are losses due to accidents and bans, and there are some that are simply "out of circulation". Comparing them to a real world item, they are like a rare painting from a dead artist, and like that, they could reach a prices where only museums or rich collectors can afford them - pricing them out of the market for all but the elite. The new TT armours would be closer to rare handmade cars, with astronomic prices and a waiting list, with those at the front of the list selling on at a profit. The prices will hold up until either: 1. It turns out not to be worth the price 2. Those prepared to pay that price all have them 3. Something better turns up At the moment, any supply of 3rd age items is still "filling the waiting list", though once the "price no object" buyers have all been satisfied, prices would settle, but at the current rate of supply, that could be some time away. As with many things, the price is what the market will stand, but 3rd age poses many problems for merchants, as there is no knowing just when the rich and impatient buyers will tail off. -
You finish him off automatically (unless they changed that). He does heal fast, so if you are only making small hits or a lot of misses, you'll never get him down. You also need good enough food, and enough HP - while he doesn't hit that hard, you need to keep the pressure on, and eating small nibbles after every hit wastes too much time. Melee, it's a tough task with a black weapon, easier with Mithril. Can also be ranged or maged, 20 range with Willow bow, iron arrows on rapid, and the best range armor (studded legs, leathers & coif) makes short work of him.

So far, the things which have been suspected of being possible triggers/attracters of Randoms are: 1. Repetition 2. Silence 3. Breaking repetition - the classic time for a random is when you switch from fishing to cooking, or do an alch after a period of combat or skill 4. Stupidity, such as ineffective "use withs" 5. Crowds 6. Randoms already seen in the area 7. Failing a random, eg. running, logging out, or if you can stand it, just walking to your destination while a random 1's and 2's you. Getting whacked by the sandwich lady Additionally, a full inventory means the MoM cannot give you a box, this is always said to result in an alternative random being drawn, if you were going to get a box.

Depends on your stats... all the barrows sets are 70 defence plus other requirements, and barrows has a repair cost too. If you want a barrows set for melee training, the healing effect of Guthans (random effect with full set) may let you stay longer in an area, but it's probably a waste of the repair cost to use it that way. Otherwise, good training setups are full rune, full rune with dragon weapon (req, 60 attack, 40 def), or full/partial dragon armour (req. 60 def). If you are training on stuff that doesn't hit hard or often, then your F2P rune armour is still an effective training set, though if you have 60 attack, going for a dragon weapon is a higher priority, as it will increase your damage output.

Is it possible to record the sounds from runescape?
Doomster replied to Ts_Stormrage's topic in Tech and Computers
I think that changed with the "background sounds" update - all the files in that directory seem to be pretty old. -
In F2P, more strength is a must, unless you major in range. For members, obvious targets are 70 ranged, for black dragonhide pieces (also good for pure melee armour too). Getting attack to 50 as mentioned (and also 50 strength) for a granite maul, or to 60 for dragon weapons, though carrying a dragon weapon, a good bow and black hide may be an expebsive kit, in which case leaving attack where it is, and going for strength, would give better value for a ranged / R2H combo - if you care to risk it, then ranged / D2H at 60 attack, or a DDP++ for poisoning. Getting mage level higher is probably worthwhile too

http://www.camstudio.org/ - the best free option, Choice of compression, I'd suggest Alparysoft, Lagarith, MSU or Camstudios own lossless.

How long is a piece of string? If you are shooting for a particular level to make a rune, or to make multiple runes (at the current altar, or a different one), then you want enough to complete the current "mission" - at least enough to get the multiple or rune you're aiming for, plus enough to do a worthwhile amount of them... I've never made a rune I didn't plan on using, but then that's the way I train mage. Use the tip.it calcs. I generally work on a 500-1k ess budget, to be consumed on whatever "plan" I'm working to. More than 1k is just too boring to do at one stretch.

You could also drink a Wizards Mind Bomb (+2 or 3 magic, depending on level, 1 dose). This is a temporary level boost, not a bonus, and enables spells at the boosted level to be cast until it wears off. Can be bought for 3 coins at the Rising sun, Falador. Or a Strength potion (+12.5% strength, 4 dose) - also a temporary level boost, but nothing in F2P is strength level dependent. 4 dose F2P strength pots are made by the Varrock apothecary, price 5 coins, 1 limpwurt root and 1 red spider egg. 3 dose are made by members using herblore (tarromin + Limpwurt root), and can be traded in F2P - if you wish to carry them as 4 dose, use them on each other to get 4 dose and remainder.

It is almost impossible to alch for profit unless you are supplying at least one of the components yourself, either by making (or running for) the nats, or by making the item you alch as well as sourcing the supplies to fo it. At level 48 (47 + stout) smithing, you can mine 5 iron, 10 coal, smelt 5 steel bars, smith 1 platebody. A steel platebody high alchs for 1200, giving a 900 profit if you by nats for 300. Try to dispose of steel plates in bulk at the store, and the price will end up below 900 after not very many. Equally, you may find smiths selling bulk platebodies at 900 each - which combined with buying nats at 300, means free mage XP for you.

Varrock isn't always crowded, was amazed when I was spider-egging there (on a melee pure) and expected to find cover from the throng of players attacking the mossies... only one there, barely got enough eggs to match the limps I had, before being so out of food that I had to tele out.

Backing Up My DVD (Touchy Issue, sorry if not allowed)
Doomster replied to Kinslayer777's topic in Tech and Computers
The "powers that be" gave the author of DVD Decrypter an ultimatum he couldn't refuse (unfortunate anough to be in a country that followed the USA lead on DMCA-style legislation), so Decrypter is well obsolete now. In a pack with some other tools, Ripit4me uses Decrypter and than "patches up" any remaining deliberate damage. There are many other alternatives, such as Slysoft CloneDVD - originally this was by Elaboratebytes, but ended up with a company based in Antigua (no DMCA there). http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm - the other alternative, it seems the free version was released partly as a protest against the shutdown of DVD Decrypter. -
Running airs isn't bad for cash (The world 16 air company) - highest payout is 2.5k - not sure if that's still the actual "air company" rate, but a lot of crafters go for a 2k rate. PS. Prayer pure with any particular combat style, or just prayer for the sake of it?

How important is +1 str compared to +1 slash, crush, stab?
Doomster replied to Zepheras's topic in Help and Advice
Attack = chance to hit Defence = chance to be missed The balance of your attack (with bonuses) versus the opponents defence (with bonuses), detemines how likely you are to hit, and implictly, the chances of a hit at the higher end of the scale. If you rarely miss, then the answer is "enough". On the other hand, increased strength increases your max hit, and the scale of hits. The different attack types also have their points... Chain is weaker against stabbing, plate is weaker against crushing, but the best weapon attacks tend to be slash, most effective against nonmetal armours. Other than a few special boss monsters though, nothing is absolute - the "wrong" style of attack can often be effective, especially if driven by high bonuses.
