  1. What I hated about school was how the teachers were unquestionable. They were right even when they were wrong and you must not question them. They were an absolute authority. Couple this with teachers who half the time didn't even have a degree in their subject and you have a recipe for disaster. That is why I am happy about university. All the teachers have PhDs in their subjects, all of them have a lifelong love for their subjects and many of them (in my area at least) are involved with the development of cutting edge technologies and research. Only last week I was at a seminar presented by one of the developers of WiMAX - a metropolitan area network technology which should be becoming available in around 2009.
  2. I used to run trillian as a portable app - it doesn't need to be installed on the machine to run. I just installed it to the thumbdrive on my machine at home then ran it on uni machines.
  3. Children of that age can't, they can't get hold of real guns or airguns unless their parents give them to them - passing the responsibility onto the parent. When one gets older it is just like any other obsession - its unhealthy to be obsessed. People who are obsessed with guns aren't 'cool' in general society. They may be considered cool within the guns society, but the same can be said for anyone who's obsessed with anything in their own society.
  4. That isn't relevant to their playing with guns. When I was a child I played with guns long before I knew about the gulf war, long before I'd seen any war footage on TV and long before I knew about any real conflicts. Accurate quote of the decade.
  5. All animals fight each other (as in, within the species). It could be for territory, it could be for mates - it is 100% natural. This was in reference to the young people doing it. When you are youngest, innate traits are more prevalent.
  6. If they are already there is there not a cost for getting time on them? Or another, perhaps not monetary, cost associated with them not being able to do other tasks whilst they're being used to scout for illegal growing?
  7. Also, if using a bong was indeed taxed, it is just a one-off purchase. One bong smokes many year's worth of weed so any tax money gained from that will be minimal compared to rolling papers which one would need a constant supply of. The license would be a good idea, but it may end up a waste of resources to track who is growing unlicensed small amounts of weed. It is likely to take more money to track them down than will be gained from people buying licenses if they have to use satellites.
  8. Wouldn't that just inspire people to use bongs? And then if they taxed them, homemade bongs? Also I'm pretty certain you couldn't tax roach - all of my friends who smoke weed just use any card that is lying around.
  9. I'll second that, it is annoying.
  10. How would they tax it if people can grow it at home?

You had high expectations for it?! I know your religious beliefs but why on earth would you expect a game like that to be a decent game, regardless of its motives? I'd expect it to be on a par with the game 'Ethnic Cleansing', simply from a quality point of view.
  12. Syringe. I assume you mean turtle. If you're going to allow the names of animals then you should allow the names of plants - in which case it rhymes with myrtle.
  13. I don't like the Imagine cover. I do like how Maynard uses his voice. I think it suits the soft singing.
  14. If you are looking for an image manipulation program that is free you can try the GIMP at http://www.gimp.org/ - there is a Windows version too. It isn't as good as Photoshop, but then Photoshop isn't free.
  15. That's interesting. Over here it is counted as data sent/received for which you are charged per MB. You have to be connected to the interweb on your phone to be able to do it. Surely if it counts as one text message per IM sent there is absolutely no point in doing that over regular text messaging?
  16. What does that have to do with his question?
  17. If you're on a GPRS or 3G network it won't cost 'minutes'. In those cases you are charged for data transfer, not time connected.
  18. It's the staff that do the asking. They watch people's posting habits and choose people based on their personality. Then, once you've been asked, there's just the $50 inauguration fee and you're a moderator.
  19. I'm bumping this old topic because I just got everything by A Perfect Circle and they are truly excellent! I thought they'd be a carbon copy of Tool, but so far they are taking everything that I like about Tool and putting it differently.
  20. When you go there you can have an audio guide - there are two available; layman's and medical. I'd imagine the medical one would go into a lot of detail, considering they bothered to make a special one just for laymen.
  21. They don't smell because they have been plastinised. Plastination is the process by which all the moisture is removed (using acetone) and replaced with a polymer which is then hardened. Pretty much modern mummification - it is a VERY long process though, I read that the horse and rider plastinate took 3.5 years to make.
  22. Knowing new things is wonderful.
