  1. That million dollar challenge is nothing new, though. http://skepdic.com/randi.html That mentions all the other challenges to 'practitioners' of the paranormal, NONE of which have been collected. A summary: B. Premanand, offering 100,000 Indian rupees - not collected Prabir Ghosh, offering 200,000 Indian rupees - not collected Australian Skeptics, offering $100,000AU - not collected Association for Skeptical Enquiry, offering ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã12,000 - not collected Tampa Bay Skeptics, offering $1,000 - not collected North Texas Skeptics, offering $12,000 - not collected Scientific American, in 1922, offered $2,500 - no one collected Hugo Gernsback, in 1930, offered $6,000 - no one collected
  2. Read this post. What I said was THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ABORTIONS. Stem cells are not taken from aborted foetuses. They are taken from embryos that were created for but not used in in vitro fertility treatments It has nothing to do with abortions. Hence why I said "Let's just ignore, for a moment, the fact that they aren't taken from abortions." It has nothing to do with abortions. Hence... Stop mentioning abortions.

And once you get to Bachelor's level you realise how easy A-level was. I'm sure once you get to Master's level you realise how easy Bachelor's was as well. You young'uns don't know you're born.
  4. Let's just ignore, for a moment, the fact that they aren't taken from abortions. If they WERE taken from an abortion, and the abortion had already happened, it would not be high regard for human life to say "incinerate it" when it could be used to help humans. I know I can disagree with you and it won't change your opinion. I can, however, tell you that your opinion is an ill-considered one. You are taking the route of "if I can't get my way then no one else may benefit". They are already destined to be destroyed but you would prevent them giving some good back to humanity because you didn't get your way.
  5. I wear occasionally baggy, comfortable clothes. I started when I used to do a lot of mountain biking because that's what that culture wore, and I stuck because it is comfortable. Loose fitting jeans which hang off my hips, those skating style shoes (though I've rarely touched a skateboard) which are very comfortable. Some brands in my wardrobe include O'Neill, Fox, Independent, Fenchurch and Animal.
  6. This embryo does not have a potential for life. It is going to be discarded.
  7. The steam process continues to run whilst the hl2 process is running. They are 2 separate processes.
  8. I was... Economic Left/Right: -3.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.72 Which puts me near a certain racist bigot named Ghandi.
  9. You were...agreeing with me? I'm all for studying dead bodies if it helps living bodies, even indirectly.
  10. What sort of crash? Silently exiting to desktop? Any error message? You say it brings you back to steam, does that mean the game's process terminates?
  11. Not really; an autopsy is performed on a person who was alive, had relatives, friends and people who cared about them that might object. It could be performed on a stillborn child, but that's still far closer to living than a 150 cell embryo. An embryo was never conscious, arguably never affected anyone and the person could still refuse to donate it. It cannot be argued that something consisting of 150 cells was capable of consciousness. Either way, I'm all for autopsies when they are necessary. If a person dies in abnormal circumstances you don't get a choice about whether they have an autopsy performed on them or not. If a conscious person decides to donate their body to science then that's up to them, and I applaud them for it.
  12. It isn't holding someone's life in high regard. The embryo is dead whether it is used for stem cell research or not. It has been said time and time again - if it isn't used for stem cell research it is disposed of. Holding someone's life in high regard would be allowing it to be used for research, to possibly facilitate the development of medical treatments in the future - and if not, then to advance our understanding of the human body.

  14. I think they should be replaced by skepticism columns.
  15. So you're of the belief that 500,000,000 people worldwide have the same sort of day every day?
  16. The cats I've had have just been plain old moggies. If I was going to choose one specifically I'd choose a ragdoll.
  17. There used to be an 'introduce yourself here and ask any questions about the board' sticky in off topic. It got removed a long time ago. It should come back.

Don't sponsored cars have logos ALL OVER them? From those I've seen in real races that is the case, I've only seen small stickers like that on personal cars.

The Inquirer is very much the tabloid of the tech news sites. Not above making stuff up. I use The Register mainly, the one which the guy who runs The Inquirer lost his job at. For extra stuff I use Slashdot IT and hardware sections. I use Gizmodo for gadgetry news and Slashdot gaming for gaming news.
  21. Don't have a proper response, but a related question is that one about the ship: There's a ship. One day it gets damaged so some planks are added to patch it up. This continues for several years, it gets damaged and new wood is added to fix it. Eventually, not a single plank of the original ship remains - at which point did it stop being the original ship?
  22. Or perhaps some people are colourblind.

http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?p=3945003#3945003 Looks like SpencerM98 did something along those lines. Check later on in that post for her reply.
