just on a side note, went to six flags over the weekend, and there are smoking areas, and someone had writen on the sign that anyone in the area would die of lung cancer. i kinda thought it was funny, but some of my friends thought it was offensive

I am an avid anti-smoker. But I think government are really over-doing it a bit sometimes. Everybody thinks smokers are unhealthy, anti-social people (I mostly agree), but on the other hand, they do nothing about alcohol (which is AS bad as smoking) and fat/fast food (america, anyone?). So sure, I applaud this law, but I also feel a bit bad for some of the smokers, they are a bit outcast now.

As a social smoker (yes feel free to throw the usual slander for that), I can say, i'm pleased with the new law, as are many of my mates who smoke. It'll pretty much stop me smoking, and a lot of what's putting me off going out to certain places is the level of smoke in there - I go to a few rock/indie/metal clubs so it's usually a hot box inside. Best thing England government have done in a long time imo, hats off!

Like Rob was touching on, it could also stop the temptation to have one, because your friends and the area are not lighting up all around you.

So I'm not sure really, It's your own home.. so I'd say it's still legal.

Where I live, smokng is banned in restaurants, which is good, I suppose. I still wish we could make that final leap to smoking being banned in ALL public places.

Well, Liverpool Council have asked for people not to smoke whenever any of their workers come round to their houses, but they've not made it illegal.

This has been in effect here in Scotland for over a year now. Gotta say, it's been one of the best things that's happened here in recent memory.

 

 

 

I love being able to go out and sit in a pub and enjoy the atmosphere without worrying about the stench. I especially love coming home from a nightclub and discovering that I no longer smell like an old ashtry.

 

 

 

But best of all... I can enjoy my food again!!! I mean, what is the point of a non-smoking section in a restaraunt? I mean, it's like having a non-peeing section in a swimming pool lol. I now eat out far more often than I used to, and don't get into arguements with the inconsiderate **** who would've sparked up next to me.

 

 

 

Now if only someone would "enforce" this rule on public transport lol.

Here in Canada, we have had the exact same thing for about 5-6 years now. After the initial shock, people will get used to it, and not care anymore. It's such a nice law.

 

 

 

Idk for the rest of Canada, but in Quebec it's been implemented only a couple of months ago. And there's wasn't any initial shock here, everyone pretty much went with it smoothly.

Most pubs here have gotten around it by simply building beer gardens and outdoor seating areas, as you're still allowed to smoke there provided it's not an enclosed space.

 

 

 

This can be annoying when you walk past and is especially annoying when it's directly in your path, in or out of the pub.

I know that a few months ago Ohio banned all smoking in public places, and there was surprisingly little opposition.

 

I just don't see the point in smoking, period.

 

It relieves stress for people. At the same time it causes stress - buying cigarettes, the need for them. :wall:

Well, not true. I don't smoke and therefore have never been addicted however when i have smoked one of two in the past it does relieve stress, which is obviously not caused by addiction. Later on people who smoke no longer are affected by the nicotine in that way and it just stops the cravings they feel so thats only true for addcited people.

 

 

 

Anyway it's a stupid ban too much government intervention for my liking. It's a pity all the "liberal" or so they claim to be partys jumping all over this in support. Learn the term liberal you bandwagon fools!

OK, so we've got the smoke smell out of the way, now to get rid of the remains of Doner Kebab in the teeth after a night out.

This already happened in Canada a while ago. Now, Britain can now breathe better.

Hopefully they'll ban smoking completely, because what I heard is, you can still smoke outside in some sort of booth thingie.

We've had thaty here for a few years now. Which is good, even though I do enjoy a few smokes when I go out, I'm not a full time smoker. So do like to go into bars where the air is clean. And it is especially good for the people that work in the bars!
